THERE was no damage done to the Super Single as Liverpool won by one goal – even if it looked unlikely with five minutes to go of their FA Cup replay at Bolton.
After hitting the woodwork three times the Reds finally beat 10 men with two late goals and only a fine save by the Bolton keeper prevented a third from Fabio Borini in the final seconds.
I tipped Liverpool -1 AH which means the stake is returned and it’s always a bet worth considering if the odds are right.
For the second day running one team (Monaco) beat the Top Treble as they were surprisingly held by Bastia in the French Cup semi-finals before losing on penalties.
However, I had success with a rare attempt at a match result and both to score Trixie with a double on Ivory Coast and Real Madrid providing a 4pt profit on the suggest 0.5 perm.
It’s another fairly quiet Thursday with Ghana facing hosts Equatorial Guinea in the second African Nations Cup semi-final. I tipped Ghana at the start of the tournament so will be backing them to win assuming there is no repeat of the disgraceful scenes that marred EG’s semi-final success over Tunisia.
EG were seconds from defeat when they were awarded the softest penalty in football history to force extra time then go on to win the game. The ref involved has been banned for six months and his top-level career is over.
Ghana have been in good form and are the better side – without help from officials hosts EG wouldn’t be in the last four and they’ll be beaten by the Black Stars if there are no more dodgy decisions. Ghana are a best 17-20 at BetVictor and bet365.
Ajax v AZ is the big game in Holland while Heracles face Groningen and apart from some Turkish and Greek cup clashes that’s it until later games in South America.
Heracles haven’t won in any competition since the end of November while Groningen’s only defeat in their last five games was to Ajax. On top of poor form Heracles are missing striker Oussama Tannane, midfielders Iliass Bel Hassani and Joey Pelupessy and defender Jeroen Veldmate.
Groningen have won six in a row against Heracles and look a decent bet at 19-10 with Ladbrokes and Coral. It’s that big that Paddy Power offer draw no bet at 11-10 and I’m taking that as the Super Single.
Ajax face AZ on the back of a disappointing defeat by Vitesse and must feel the title has gone with PSV 12 points clear albeit having played a game more. There is no inferiority complex from AZ who are in mixed form but they have lost five of their last six against the men from Amsterdam.
Ajax should win but a best 8-13 at Coral is a bit short so I’d be tempted to go with over 2.5 goals at 3-5 with McBookie and BetVictor instead – and seven of the last eight meetings have gone that way.
