IT took a little dig from a punter – but it looks like Milesey’s back in the groove.

Our man tipped a succession of winners on Wednesday and Thursday’s have the reasoning some want – but others don’t need.

So here are Milesy’s tips and thoughts for Thursday.

Meydan 4.25 IGUGU

I’m going to start today with the reappearance of IGUGU who has been off track for 390 days. This six-year-old filly, seven starts, seven wins, comes back today in the 4.25 MEYDAN and I fully expect her to make it eight from eight.

Huntingdon 2.30 Mentalist

Has been terrific over jumps and for the in-form trainer Venetia Williams and jockey Aidan Coleman on board I expect this horse to take all the beating in a 2m 4f race.

Huntingdon 3.00 TETLAMI

Nothing in this field should get near on current form, although Act of Kalanisi can’t be counted out but will have to get round first which has proven difficult to do in past races. My vote in this race goes to TETLAMI for Henderson/Geraghty.

Huntingdon 4.30 FREDDIES RETURN

It’s Freddies Return return after 1060 days off the track. One to watch out for, not one I’ll be taking on today, be good to see how it goes after so long off track. GENTLE GEORGE could be the pick here.

Sedgefield 5.10 NO WAY HOZAY

Looks well ahead of all company today in this field, may not be the romp home as it was last race with the weight rise of 16lb, loves the soft ground.

Ayr 4.20 THE TRACEY SHUFFLE

Drop of trip to 2m today after being beaten last time out by Tap Night which is no disgrace. Fully expected to go one better today and win this race, is rated the top horse in this field.

Clonmel 2.55 UNIKA LA RECONCE

On debut for Willie Mullins at Thurles last time out took an easy win, and steps up today, but with Ruby on board expect this French raider to take all the beating and I’d still expect it to take this field apart just like it’s run at Thurles. A progressive horse and one that will raise standards with each race.

LUCKY 15

2.30 Huntingdon
MENTALIST 4

3.00 Huntingdon
TETLAMI 1.83

4.20 Ayr
THE TRACEY SHUFFLE 2.16

5.10 Sedgefield
NO WAY HOZAY 2.52

It wasn’t a dig, it was a suggestion. Any punter worth their salt would want a bit of reasoning behind a bet rather than just following it blindly, otherwise they are most likely mug punters.

    My god your pathetic!

    PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS
    ———————

Night Three – Thursday February 21 – Bournemouth

    James Wade v Adrian Lewis
    Robert Thornton v Wes Newton
    Simon Whitlock v Phil Taylor
Michael van Gerwen v Raymond van Barneveld
    Andy Hamilton v Gary Anderson

    PHIL TAYLOR 4-9
    MVG 6-5
    HAMILTON 7-4

Will be my 3 singles for the night 😉 😉

    Milesey

    James Wade v Adrian Lewis
Adrian’s form has been so poor in the Premier League that this is already a must-win match for Jackpot. But don’t write him off yet.

Wade’s struggles have been well documented and he is not in good form at the moment either. Put simply, the Machine is misfiring and Lewis has a real chance of landing a first Premier League win. This game is up for grabs and I think Lewis will edge it with a few moments of magic.

    Robert Thornton v Wes Newton
Before we got under way a couple of weeks ago, Robert was the Premier league relegation favourite but not anymore. The Thorn has gained three points from two games and his confidence is at all-time high. Not so for Newton, who has played badly so far – and those are his words not mine. He must improve to worry Thornton.

I think this game will be the catalyst for Wes to kick on and produce the form that has seen him move to world number 5.

    Simon Whitlock v Phil Taylor
Taylor has looked edgy in both games so far but that won’t last, he’ll settle soon and this could be the game that sees the real Phil step up to the mark.

Simon’s pace will suit Taylor and I think we could see The Power put up the highest average in this year’s PL (beating Barney’s 102).

Michael van Gerwen v Raymond van Barneveld
What a game this could be. Both are smooth, pacey and very accurate. Michael sometimes tenses up against RVB (witness the Grand Slam Final) and if he does so again he will not win. Barney is playing wonderfully well right now and I don’t see him losing this.

I’m sitting on the fence by backing the draw.

    Andy Hamilton v Gary Anderson

A tough one. The Hammer’s games have been hard to call so far and for me – just like last week against Simon Whitlock – this game is all about Anderson. If The Flying Scotsman hits his doubles he wins.

Gary looked a nervous wreck at the end of his match last week, and if he’s anything like that he’ll get punished. The Hammer can grind a point here.

MIlesey, I was going to look darts tomorrow but will post this if that’s OK with you. I might put something if anything catches my eye.

      • Milesey 5 years ago

ha ha ha, you can add to it Mr F, and make it more into your own work, not a problem at all, wasn’t sure if you were doing anything that’s why i put this up on here.

Milesey, I’m working tonight so I’d be looking at it in the morning but it will give more time for Europa League if I don’t do it. I’ll post your thoughts and add or comment later. The one guy I did fancy was Thornton after his start but maybe that’s my Scottish bias. Ladbrokes TV were on yesterday and the guy was tipping him each-way on the outrights.

  3. Bryan 5 years ago

Another night at the darts then. Van Gerwen let a few of us down last week. He really hasn’t looked the same player who impressed so much at the world championships and in hindsight we probably underestimated Thornton slightly. Barney gave us another good win though in his adopted homeland.

It looks like a tough coupon this week. Taylor is probably the ”banker” of the week but he’s very short. If Anderson continues his poor form on the doubles then he’s there for the taking and Hamilton may offer the best value at 7/4 or 6/5 draw no bet.

  4. Milesey 5 years ago

    16.25 Clonmel – Karinga Queen @24

She’s been in good form since she nearly got brought down, and was subsequently pulled up, in her last race at Gowran Park at the end of January and we can put a line through that run. She had put in some good performances prior to then finishing fourth to a horse I train, Tarquinius, at Fairyhouse on New Year’s day and then finishing a staying on fourth to Panther Claw at Punchestown, both runs coming in 3m1f handicaps.

The drop in trip won’t inconvenience her as she has winning form over 2m41/2f, albeit on good ground, however she does go perfectly well with some give underfoot also. She has a nice weight here, and I think she goes there with a good each-way chance in what looks a typically competitive race.

Milesey, this Karinga Queen – r u saying your training it or am I reading that wrong?

      • Milesey 5 years ago

That’s my best mate Gordon Elliott, and the horse he trains is “Tarquinius”. Also trains Chicago Grey but didn’t give me that tip the other day when it bolted up and won in style and now heads off to the Grand National in april.

          • Milesey 5 years ago

Anything to do with Irish racing then Gordon is the man, been out to Ireland many a time to county Meath where he trains his horses. He won the national as a trainer when he was just 29 years old. 33/1 silver birch in 2007, and yes i had a penny or two on that 😉 ;).

    • Milesey 5 years ago

I am in a few syndicates on a couple of really nice horses, but not taken to training them yet 😉 ;). Missing out this week, for gearing upto the cheltenham festival have missed the chance to go along to Paul Nicholls yard and talk over his runners for cheltenham. Think i have also missed the big betfair evening with Paul Nicholls and David Pipe, but at least i got to go to the london dungeons the other day 😉 ;).

I want to go along and see the great man Henry Cecil and talk over what new comers he has for this seasons flat racing…. see what he has that can take over from where FRANKEL left off.

    Three for MEYDAN

Back Specific Gravity in the 15:50
    Back Mandaean in the 17:35
Back Russian Soul in the 18:10

Specific Gravity has steadily been coming to the boil this season, like so many from the Mike de Kock yard, and he looks set to strike in the 15:50. He was a winner last season at Newmarket for Sir Henry Cecil and has bettered the form of that win in finishing third on both his outings this year, even then looking capable of better given things didn’t really pan out for him. He was third to Nawwaar over 1m earlier in the month, that trip looking sharp enough (a winner over 10f) and again got going too late last time when filling the same position behind Jawhar, that form looking rock solid with horses all around him at the top of their games at present. He has been crying out for a stronger pace which he should get here courtesy of Treble Jig and whilst Con Artist clearly boasts some very strong form, his presence should at least ensure Specific Gravity is a fair price.

Godolphin tends to unearth the odd top class performer every Carnival and hopefully Mandaean will prove to be just that when he lines up in the Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort at 17:35. He was a Group 1 winner as a juvenile when trained by Andre Fabre, albeit in a weak race, and he was considered to be Godolphin’s main hope for the Derby last season, taking his place in the Dante only to fold tamely and essentially run as if amiss. The rest of his season was pretty much a write off but he showed much more of what he is about when reappearing over 1m at this track when comfortably beating Don’t Call Me in a handicap off a mark of 105. The key point to him looks to be the trip, a free-going sort who, in hindsight, wasn’t getting home last season and given this will just be his second start over 1m, he clearly remains with plenty of potential and looks the one to beat in what is admittedly, a competitive race.

The sprints down the straight turf course have been rather messy so far this season but one horse who has caught the eye is Russian Soul and he should go well in the concluding handicap at 18:10. He’s been second on both of those outings, hitting the front soon enough before getting worn down by Tamaathul on his reappearance and then he probably should have beaten Medicean Man last time but was left rather isolated and tended to wander his chance away. He seems to be a strong-travelling sort who may need producing at the right time, and his draw in stall 10 should help on this occasion with confirmed pace all around him. He strikes as the type that could even run above himself in the Al Quoz Sprint but will need to win this to justify those expectations.

Meydan 3.15 – SO BEAUTIFUL 5/1 – handicap race and a lot of these have run in graded races ..this is a hard one to call. Think the extra furlong will suit

Meydan 3.50 – CON ARTIST 5/2 form with Kassiano is solid.

Meydan 4.25 – SAJJHAA 11/4 – Now don’t get me wrong Igugu on paper looks very good and but I am going to take him on with SAJJHAA as he won very easily last time out here.

    Meydan 5.00 – MARTIMER 7/1

Meydan 5.35 – MUSIR 2/1 – NAP …. has spanked Master of Hounds before and even have 3lb advantage this time, Do It All had one race where the jockey won it for him, but no way Soumillon will let him get away. Think Mushreq needs further and just don’t think the rest are good enough.

Martin, you’ve certainly made an impact but you’re right we’ve got our reasoning back so well done.

  25. Victor 5 years ago

Long time reader, first time poster.

NOt sure what all the drama surrounding Martin’s suggestion is? Additionally, I don’t really see the need for some of the comments directed at him i.e. “Shut the hell up”.

Surely we’re all adults (or should be at least), can we not conduct ourselves as such? The guy made a suggestion, which was hardly uncalled for.

He obviously rates Mr Fix It’s tips otherwise he wouldnt be on the website, he was merely suggesting it would be better if Mr Fix It left some reasoning behind his tips so other punters would know a bit more about his selections and what strength they may want to back them at, I tend to agree with Martin.

I read the football betting section most days and alot of the time the reasoning left by Mr Fix It is what convinces me to back most of his winners.

      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Victor, I don’t have a problem with Martin but all I was doing was defending Milesey. I almost always give reasoning for my tips, it was the racing ones he was querying. But as I said he didn’t know the history with Milesey being accused of taking the reasoning from elsewhere while actually through his job he was contributing to these articles.

    • AC 5 years ago

      Smickers,

Where was this tip from if you don’t mind me asking? … Reasonable Force seems very heavy and I would lean more towards ANCIENT TIMES as its won over this distance before and won easily off the mark over hurdles at Ayr earlier this month.

But if the tip is good then go for it

  29. Mr H 5 years ago

I know nothing of horses and greyhounds but as my partner is a manager in a bookmakers I find myself spending time in the shop and generally bet by names rather than form. Plucked out a 20/1 winner at Punchestown last night Yes Sir Brian and 2 greyhounds Bowtime Henry and Tyrur Brian that finished close 2nds only because my names Brian Hendry lol had them in a 10p each way treble and got £13 returns. Yes Sir Brian is the offspring of Brian Boru which leads me onto my selections today Little Boy Boru Sedgefield 4.10 and Gentle George Huntingdon 4.30 with George being my middle name. Milestone I seen u fancy Gentle George but wot u reckon too the other horses chances

  30. ellis 5 years ago

I just think people should respect the time and effort that goes into this website. You can make a tip without justification. Milesy isn’t trying to make people lost money because he would just get more jip. Some people don’t have all day to give detailed justification of a tip they just want to share it with fellow punters

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 5 years ago

Ellis, people should understand if we don’t give reasoning it’s not because we haven’t done the research or picked the tip out a hat, it’s simply a timing issue. I looked at all the Europa League games carefully before picking my five btts but had no time to do a write-up because I wanted to get my England and Scotland btts lines for the weekend written up which I’ve done and these will be posted just after midnight.

    Back Baransky in the 10:45

The opening thoroughbred handicap at 10:45 is high on numbers but low on interesting horses and a pair of recent maiden winners seem sure to go well with Baransky taken to come out on top. He took a while to get off the mark but did so at Abu Dhabi in January (race worked out well) and followed that up with a good run at this track last time when third to Periphery. He travelled well for a long way that day and will find this drop to a 0-80 (from a 0-90) very much up his street and he looks the one to beat.

    Back Latkhaf in the 12:15

Latching on to progressive horses at this relatively late stage of the Dubai season seems a sensible ploy and Latkhaf should make a bold bid to complete the hat-trick in the 12:15. He has been a model of consistency this season, runner-up 3 times before winning his last couple of starts over this course and distance. He may only have won by a head last time but it was a similarly progressive sort he got the better of and pleasingly the pair where nicely clear of the rest. This is obviously a stronger field but Latkhaf has more to offer himself and he is worth sticking with until he’s beaten

Back Curzon Line in the 12:45

It’s not easy to find potential value elsewhere with small fields very much the order of the day but Curzon Line looks interesting in the final race at 12:45. He was trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni last year where he won 2 of his 3 starts and has made a reasonable start for this yard despite only finishing eighth behind Innocuous and Discoverer. The main angle with him is that he could be allowed an easy lead in a race that looks devoid of early speed, and whilst this will be his first start on dirt his pedigree firmly suggests he will handle it.

    —————————————

    FRIDAY SANDOWN 2.20

Free World was smart in his day with Paul Nicholls and hinted at a revival at Cheltenham in November on last start for Arthur Moore. One to consider if market vibes strong starting out for Tim Vaughan in a hood.

Takeroc is another who was smart at best for Paul Nicholls. Given chance by handicapper, but failed to build on more promising effort at Newbury in November when well held at Kempton earlier this month.

Keki Buku was a useful hurdler who has found frame on 4 of 5 completed starts over fences. Not seen since November 2011, but has gone well fresh previously and well treated on form over timber. One to consider.

Nozic is a veteran who has proved extremely consistent in handicaps since winning at Plumpton in March, scoring again in 7-runner event at Kempton earlier this month. Likely to continue in good heart.

Sunny Ledgend is a fairly useful 2-time winning novice hurdler last season. Made a successful debut over fences at Lingfield (3m) last month and ran to a similar level when third in handicap company at Huntingdon since.

Lord Singer won a 2m handicap chase at Fakenham in January 2011. Placed on all 4 starts this term, runner up over C&D last time, and likely to be in the shake-up once more.

Anay Turge was in great heart when landing couple of 2m handicaps in the autumn. Saddle slipped at Chepstow in January, but no obvious excuse for poor effort at Uttoxeter since and usual hood dispensed with now.

Christopher Wren is a dual hurdles winner who got bit closer to that form when third at Warwick (2m) in December and wasn’t given hard time in a heavy-ground C&D event earlier this month. One to keep an eye on.

Olympian Boy scored with something to spare at Newton Abbot (21f) in June and back to that form when second to Shangani (winner again since) over C&D earlier this month. Dangerous to dismiss.

verdict : The prospect of less-demanding ground than previously seen this campaign may finally spark Christopher Wren into life over fences and he is well treated on his form shown over timber. He can get off the mark in this sphere at the expense of the returning Keki Buku and the consistent Lord Singer.

    LINGFIELD 1.30
    AVISO 13.5
Have heard this horse being tipped alot for this race, why ? i can’t see any reason at all to be honest, it’s a punt, if it runs like it can it will WIN, but it hasn’t been of late, so is today the day ?, who knows. It’s a total shot in the dark, it’s not impossible off the handicap that’s all that is in favour of this runner.

    LINGFIELD 2.30
    TITAN TRIUMPH 10.5
No confidence at all in this one either, another total punt, bit of reasoning though, it has come down in the handicap so finds itself in company that it should be beating, will it ?

okay so now time to find some picks i can be more confident about

    SANDOWN 2.55
    SHOTAVODKA 1.84
Based on it’s last run out, shouldn’t have any problems in this field at all, but has to defy a penalty for it’s win last time out.

    SANDOWN 3.25
    FAGO 1.28
Should win, as long as Ruby can keep his ass in the saddle. price isn’t for me today, not after the tumble last time out.

    SANDOWN 4.30
    BARLOW 7.6
Very solid over fences, and has the ability to win this race. Very progressive horse who gets better with each race.

    WARWICK 2.10
    BROADWAY BUFFALO 1.82
Should have too much for this field, Heronshaw another unbeaten horse under rules, but only won by a head in it’s last run out. Where as BROADWAY BUFFALO bolted off last time out at Newcastle and if goes about it today the same way will take all the beating.

    WARWICK 3.15
    GORGEHOUS LLIEGE 2.5
for the in-form Venetia Williams team, On level weight with these Novices today.

Back Swansea win to nil @ 2.8

A genuine sporting fairytale could become reality at Wembley on Sunday should Bradford City beat Swansea in the Capital One Cup final.

The League Two outfit have beaten all-comers on their path to the final starting with Notts County back in round one before penalty shootout defeats of Premier League outfits in Arsenal and Wigan, topped by that two-legged victory over Aston Villa.

If the Bantams win they will have eliminated four top-flight sides, equalling the record Sheffield Wednesday set in 1991 when Manchester United were beaten thanks to a lone John Sheridan goal.

United went on to finish sixth in the league that year with Fergie’s glory years still a couple of years off while Wednesday were promoted to the first division, and the gulf between Bradford and Swansea suggests Sunday’s test is far tougher than that which faced the Owls 22 years ago.

The Betfair market makes Phil Parkinson’s men 10.0 underdogs to win the game in 90 minutes with Swansea priced at just 1.39 to make their Premier League class tell. The Bantams are 6.4 to lift the trophy with the Swans as short as 1.18.

Those odds tell you all you to need know about the scale of the task facing Bradford with Betfair customers convinced that Michael Laudrup’s men will show their superiority on Sunday afternoon.

    FRIDAY 22nd FEBRUARY 2013

    HORSE RACING TIPS

Jebel Ali on Friday 22nd FEB 2013
