IF I get these wrong tonight I’m going to blame the dog. After a fairly decent run of late I got none out of five right on Sunday and got – you guessed it – dog’s abuse.

To be honest picking losers is my pet hate so I felt as bad as anyone who backed the line.

So here goes as I try to make amends for a Sunday shocker which followed five out of six right on the Saturday – when the dug had a day off.

I won’t make excuses but not many games stand out so if you think this is a banker line then think again.

After what happened in the Championship at the weekend when only one away side scored I’m leaving out the games at Barnsley, Blackpool and Millwall. Barnsley have netted eight in their last three at Oakwell but Birmingham have a decent record of clean sheets.

Blackpool v West Ham could go either way. They could cancel each other out in a dull affair or there could be goals galore and Millwall v Middlesbrough has the look of a low scorer.

So I’ll start off in League One with the meeting between Scunthorpe and Walsall. Scunthorpe were one side who helped me out at the weekend and six of their last seven have brought up both teams to score.

I’m sure they’ll hit the target against Walsall at home while the visitors beat Wycombe at the weekend and have netted on their last three visits to Oldham, Carlisle and Bury.

It was 2-2 when the sides met earlier this season and the last three recent meetings between the sides have produced both teams to score.

I considered Cheltenham v Wimbledon and Crewe v Accrington in League Two but settled on Gillingham v Rotherham.

Gillingham have brought up the bet in five of their last six, with these games producing 25 goals. Rotherham have netted 29 goals away from home – second only to leaders Southend – and they have scored in five of their last six.

They have lost their last three at Gillingham, 3-1 and 4-0 on their last two visits, but with the home side having conceded 12 goals in their last four you’ve got to imagine Rotherham will hit the target.

Next I’m looking at Kidderminster v Wrexham, two of the better teams in the Blue Square Premier. Kidderminster’s last seven have seen both teams score six times and the only time it didn’t happen was when they defeated lowly Alfreton 2-0.

Second-placed Wrexham are pushing Fleetwood all the way but in seven games have kept just one clean sheet. Kidderminster have won this fixture to nil in the last three seasons but Wrexham are a much improved side who should at least pick up a point.

Next head to Scotland where the Second and Third Divisions have been kind to us. Take Brechin v Stenhousemuir in the Second, a match between two sides in scoring form.

Both scored three in their respective matches at the weekend and five of Brechin’s last six have seen both score. Stenny’s last six have produced 24 goals and they netted three at Airdrie last Saturday.

Finally complete the fivefold with Clyde v Elgin in the Third Division. It was this or Queen’s Park v Berwick but I’ve gone for the former.

Elgin are flying after hitting nine past Peterhead and leaders Alloa in their last two matches but away from home their last three have finished 1-1, 2-5 and 0-6.

I’ve taken them beat Clyde on the strength of their last two results but the Bully Wee have scored five in their last two home games, despite winning just one in seven.

The last two meetings between the sides at Broadwood have finished 1-1 and 3-3.

Both teams to score

Scunthorpe v Walsall

Gillingham v Rotherham

Kidderminster v Wrexham

Brechin v Stenhousemuir

Clyde v Elgin

George, you might bet better buying a lottery ticket! Seriously, I’d look at MK Dons, Charlton, Cheltenham and Swindon as an accer that looks difficult to stop.

George, again you must have a chance. I’m not going to knock anyone’s picks here because at the end of the day any game can produce goals.

Ian, nice one with the btts by the way. Funny, the one I’d have worried about was Ross Co v Morton so maybe you were lucky it was off.

Hi Mr Fixit, been following your site with interest for a little while, just have a quick question though.

Why is it that your recommendations almost always involve small lower league teams? Even when there are games between bigger teams going on I notice the majority of your picks are always from lower leagues.

I would have thought that Premier league teams would have more consistent form and thus be easier to predict. I haven’t been very successful yet myself though so if what you’re doing is working for you I’m obviously not gonna knock it, would be interested to hear your views on this though.

Bob, firstly I don’t agree with the comment because I look at all the UK games and often do separate pieces on the TV games and, for example, Champions League ties. However, to ignore lower leagues would be short-sighted because the games are on coupons and when doing accumulators you shouldn’t restrict your choices. Also most punters are well aware of what’s happening in say the Premier League but I can often give them pointers about sides they nothing about. For example a lot of people followed my advice on Brentford on Monday and tonight’s Super Single is Elgin who punters, particularly ones based down south, would know little about. I’m hoping they hang on to their lead by the way. I see plenty of tips on top-flight games elsewhere on the net but not many on the lower leagues.

Ah OK yeah true enough thanks for the quick response.

By the way if you don’t mind me asking, just curious, is this how you make your living? Or do you also have a day job or other source of income?

Bob, I work for the Daily Record in Glasgow for whom I write two fixed-odds pages at the weekend and midweek columns when required. The site as you know is free so with income covering costs. I’m not a professional gambler but do OK from the punting.

George, it’s a funny old game right enough. I avoided Championship games after the carnage of the weekend. One away team netted at the weekend and then last night three sides hit 10 between them. Crazy! And then you have Rochdale netting at Charlton and a 0-0 at the likes of Gillingham v Rotherham that no one would have predicted. I’ll put up Europa League games tomorrow. The hamster’s going to pick them overnight!

  10. george 6 years ago

lol cheers mr fix it. The hamster lol lets hope he dose better than the dog lol.

  11. Ian Burnett 6 years ago

Hope a few punters took note of my both teams to score did say they were all certs lol

You need a different approach try a pin

      Mr Fixit 6 years ago

Chris, wasn’t much to go on tonight for btts which was why I said the hamster picked them. Could be a pin at the weekend, it’s one of those markets.
