THERE was a serious lack of goals in Friday's big games and Juventus's failure to score bombed my Super Single.
The Top Treble – it's not even worth a mention although a Paris game that looked a low-score banker turned into a thriller with the Ligue 2 strugglers having two men sent off. The big surprise was Bilel Mohsni wasn't one of them. The ex-Rangers defender was only booked.
I've spent days sizing up Saturday's card and while I've said it before it's a tough one. FA Cup ties dominate in England and team news is vital while north of the border the weather could be the biggest problem with snow forecast in many places.
After days of rain in Glasgow the Partick Thistle-Aberdeen wasn't a surprise casualty last night and some others could fall victim today.

Dumbarton have already beat them twice this season, but St Mirren have brought in a few bodies since Rae took over and seem to be improving.
I watched Dumbarton against Morton last week and they were very poor.
Mallon suspended for St Mirren, but Jim Goodwin could return.
Both Dumbarton strikers Nade and Fleming are doubts after hobbling off last week.
oozie, St Mirren are on my homes but it’s not one I’d say I was totally confident about (check Damian Walker’s comments on the first scorer tips).

Today I’m going to start a new challenge which is Rich’s Slow and Steady £5-£50 challenge.
True worst odds I’ll take are 1/10 but on many occasions I’ll take better. It’ll take 25 bets at those odds to hit £50. But I expect it’ll be done in 10-15. Generally 1 bet a day but at most 2/3.
If it hits I’ll start again banking £25 and commencing on £25 again.
I know it’s a boring one but could be a decent way to build some relatively safe funds.

Fancied the Harrogate massively for goals – should have used o1.5 as my challenge bet instead lol
My main bet of the day is from league 1 where I’m taking Bradford to beat Rochdale at 21/10.
My only concern is this is the 3rd game in a week for both teams which could change things, but Bradford have been the much better team in this period with 2 wins, scoring 6 and conceding 0, Rochdale only managing a loss and draw.
Also going to take Bolton to win at 7/4
I’ve been really Impressed with Bolton recently, all the mess they are in off the pitch and players not getting paid but week in week out they come out and really battle for a win. There last 5 game form is LWDLW but did score 2 in their loss to Brighton and were the better team for the majority of the game. There other loss came to Leeds and although I’m a Leeds fan I have to admit it could of easily been a Bolton win if they hadn’t of missed a few brilliant chances.
BTTS in the Preston v Wednesday game looks good at evens too. Both scoring well wih Preston netting 4 from their last 2 and Wednesday 6! Preston have also scored in 8 home games on the trot and with Wednesday arguably have the best at forwards in the league they are always a big goal threat. Definitely looks good value at evens to me.

Meanwhile – back at Derby County:
2x back to back draws on the back of a winless streak going back to boxing day and the trapdoor for Derby’s manager was opened. He’s practically had an open cheque book of which he’s spent £25 mill and whilst you’d think the extra transfers added in January would elevate the team, its had the opposite affect.
The mini crisis had become a big crisis and we’re now being beaten home and away by teams we should be mopping up all the points with. It beggars belief at who we have in our 1st team and on the bench and the results we’re getting against them. I think Derby have 1 or 2 games left and if consistent wins don’t start coming, we’re out of the playoffs, – on to next season only we’ll probably be under a transfer embargo.
Even with Bryson almost back to full fitness, I still would not risk as much as 20p on anything associated with Derby.
We’ll dominate possession, have the most shots on target, then the opposition will break on us, have one chance and seal the points.
Darren Wassell’s first game in charge saw us switch back to 4-4-2 – a step in the right direction, but the 1 nil loss at home to Mk Dons that it yielded was 1 step forward and 5 back.
I fear for our immediate games since we’ve played worse teams than Brentford recently and lost against them ( even though Brentford are not as resolute as they were last season ).

Post Derby match:
We dominated possession, they countered us against the run of play and scored. I thought – here we go again.
Darren Bent had 6 touches by the time he was subbed around 60 mins and 2 of those came from the kickoff and a restart.
Ince/Blackman/Martin came on and Brentford sat back and we threw the kitchen sink at them. Two Derby goals in 3 minutes saw us lead for the first time in a match this season having been a goal down. Martin who’s not scored in open play in 19 matches got his 10th league goal of the season, hendrick got one and Christie got his first in a Derby shirt.
The really bizzare part of this match was there was no indication from the 4th official on how many mins of injurytime to play. 3 mins into injurytime at 2-1 up, Brentford get a corner which we clear off the line and break at pace. With 2 spare up front Brentford had thrown everyone forwards bar their goalie which set Martin up for his late late goal.
I’m more chuffed that we have managed to turn a good performance into one that yielded all the points than the scoreline. For about 20 mins in the 2nd half, Derby’s heads had dropped and we looked like the winless streak would continue. Then the game came alive with the 3 attacking changes. Incidentally, our first win in London for 2.5 years !!
Pre-game, I expected a hard fought point and although Brentford are not as resolute as they were this time last season, We’ve walked away with 2 more points than I expected. I’m not going to get ahead of myself here but I did point out after the back to back draws – the last 2 games under Clement, we’re showing signs of fresh shoots of growth. We’ve actually been playing far better than our results have shown of late and this result is exactly what the doctor ordered. I hope we use it as a springboard to rejuvenate our season close.
We’re up to fifth, the slide has stopped for the time being and I’m thinking leaving 3 big hitters on the bench to stew in their juices was a smart move for the manager. Fresh legs for 30 mins to throw at the opposition was a tactical call that on reflection was as good a managerial decision as you’ll get all season. Incidentally, we apparently have the best away record in the league now. Not all is lost at the Ipro, but I have a cautiously optimistic smile on my face. More of the same please.
