IT was a fairly typical Tuesday night with a mixture of the good, the bad and the ugly.
The good came in the shape of Sheffield Utd bringing up the Super Single, the bad was Reading losing at home to struggling Wigan and the ugly was 10-man Bayern Munich being held 0-0 at Shakhtar in the Champions League.
Chelsea's draw at PSG was fairly predictable and they should edge through at Stamford Bridge in three weeks but the failure of the likes of Derby and Blackburn to win emphasises how tough it is to predict midweek matches.
There are two more Champions League matches on Wednesday with Real Madrid travelling to Schalke and Basel entertaining Porto. In my CL preview I'm tipping Madrid to win by at least two against a side they beat 6-1 in Germany last season and I don't think Basel will lose.
In the Championship there is just one game with Middlesbrough hoping to go top with a win at Birmingham and I'm backing them to do so.
FA Cup heroes Bradford travel to Orient and should win if they're not too jaded or have celebrated their weekend defeat of Sunderland too much.
My Super Single profit for the month is 16.7pts and I deduced 0.2pts after advising partial cover on Sheffield Utd to draw at 15-1 late in their game at Notts County.
Having checked teams and stats I'm simply taking Middlesbrough to win as the Super SIngle. I know it's risky but Birmingham have gone off the boil after a great start under Gary Rowett and are winless in six. Boro have won four of their last five and will be close to full strength.
They were poor in the FA Cup at Arsenal on Sunday but promotion is the priority and with Derby drawing last night they'll see this as a chance to take advantage.
I'm doing a Top Treble on Real to win and both to score at Basel-Porto and Orient-Bradford.

Chef, Blues had a bad result the weekend of which I was surprised at. It’s been announced they’re in receivership and I’m sure Rowett will want to see a reaction tonight. 11/10 is tempting but its not an easy away game for Boro.
I personally am looking at the evens for BTTS.
Don’t let me put you off Chef. 11/10 is a great price for the ‘in-form’ team. Look at Derby tonight though who were a similar price and found themselves 3-1 down to a team arguably worse than themselves.

Word of warning for the BTTS tip in City match. City v Newcastle H2H hasn’t seen a BTTS land in the last 6 fixtures and you have to go back to 2011 for the last time Newcastle managed to score at the Etihad. City have Barcelona a few days after and the players will be wanting to keep things tight and simple before then. Also Kompany should be finding his feet again after a shaky return from injury. I think City will win this one without any thrills, 1-0 or 2-0. Just don’t see Newcastle scoring.

Followed Alves’s corner tip and it was painfully frustrating. 4-4 after the first minute of the second half. 3 second half goals took it to 5-0 and neither team wanted to play after that. That’s why Robben was my SS and I also tipped him on the site in the Cl preview. As I’ve said hundreds of times the SS in the paper won’t always be the same as the one on the site. Different mediums and different deadlines too.
Midweek in the Record I have about 250 words and do mainstream betting because it’s a newspaper and that’s the market.
Tomorrow’s column will be on Celtic v Inter Milan and maybe a paragraph on other games.

Rezekne vs liepaja this morning.
Goal line set at 6. Insight rezekne were beaten 5-3 by gulbene recently in this cup who id say were more or less equal in ability. Out of the 1st legs of last years last 16 CL only 1 team won, Olympiakos 2-0 v Man utd, with 6 away wins. Looking at the fixtures this wk DC on 4 aways looks a likely winner with Porto at Basle the most likely to let the 4fold down, not betting on it myself but the 4fold pays 1.28/1 at Bet365with all 8 paying a bawhair under 20/1. Can see a few draw as most teams will settle for draws away in opening legs away, especially Italian teams plus Russian teams in EL
