FRIDAY the 13th didn't turn out to be a horror show for punters but there was no love in the air on Valentine's Day.
Hibs' win at Rangers on Friday lined thousands of punters' pockets and while they weren't emptied on Saturday results weren't great.
If you play with level stakes you'll be fine and overall and I was 4pts down for the day after taking into account my winning Euro treble on Bayern -1, Real -1 and Sevilla and first-scorer Trixie which was Yann Kermorgant, Peter Crouch and Darren Bent – I advised those three players in my FA Cup preview post.
Arbroath beat the Super Single but I hoped some covered when they led 1-0 – I was at a game so couldn't advise it.
Bournemouth's surprise draw at home to Huddersfield in the Championship killed a Top Treble that also featured Stranraer and Queen of the South. Watford's last-gasp winner at Bolton beat me for a draws treble but two just about covered the stake.
I've picked what I believe is a good Super Single for Sunday – but they're away and they're French so that will put some people off.
Guingamp are a team many people will have backed in recent games and they travel to bottom-of-the-table Metz having lost just once in 15 games. That was to Monaco in the League Cup and they've beaten Monaco and PSG in the league in that spell.
Metz on the other hand haven't won in their last 16 in 90 minutes and are without a goal in their previous in normal time. Guingamp won 5-2 on their last trip to Metz a couple of years ago but lost 1-0 at home when they met earlier in the season.
That was their only in 13 again their rivals so while head-to-head results strongly favour Metz but form is weighted heavily in Guingamp's favour. In fact only Lyon (23) have picked up more points in Ligue 1 than Guingamp (20) since December 2014.
For that reason I'm willing to take a chance on Guingamp at 19-10 with BetVictor and for those of a more nervous disposition consider Guingamp draw no bet at 19-20 with Ladbrokes.
Other sides I thought about were Lyon at Lorient but that's the 8pm French game we often fear, Villarreal at a struggling Rayo and Atletico Madrid at Celta Vigo.
The FA Cup ties again didn't go to form on Sunday and some people will fancy more shocks with Bradford at home to Sunderland and Middlesbrough at Arsenal. Aston Villa-Leicester is tough to call with Paul Lambert having left the club and Tim Sherwood appointed and I'm tempted not to touch the games.
In Scotland Aberdeen should close the gap on Celtic at the top to three points by winning at a Hamilton side still without a victory since Alex Neil left the club. The Dons are a best 10-11 at Paddy Power.
I'm starting the Top treble with Torino at home to a Cagliari side who have lost three of the last four and haven't won away since October.
Torino are in fine form with four successive wins including a 5-1 thumping of Sampdoria in their last home outing. They defeated Cagliari away in September but on the downside have lost three in a row at home on the head to heads. Cagliari's last six have been btts so Torino and btts is worth a look at 29-10 with Ladbrokes.
Add Roma who face a Parma side that's suffered nine defeats out of 10 on the road and not won away to the capital side since 1987. In fact opta tell me Parma have a worse record against Roma than any other current Serie A team.
Roma have won four out of five against Parma at the Olympic Stadium and steadied the ship after a rough patch by beating Cagliari last time out.
Complete the treble with Barcelona -2 at home to Levante. Barca beat their visitors 5-0 away earlier in the season and it was 7-0 in the Nou Camp last campaign. In 19 meetings between the sides in Barcelona the home side have scored in them all – winning 16 and drawing three.
Levante have conceded an average of three goals on their Nou Camp visits and it's not their favourite place to go.

Apologies for not posting my pre-match derby summary, I woke up half way into the 1st half.
It turns out McClaren made 7 changes, all I would say were doing an ok job until it was established that the Ref wanted to take centre stage.
He carded everyone for anything and after Warnock got his 2nd yellow, Derby seemed intent on not getting out of 2nd gear.
This seemed to cause derby to up their game switching to a 441 fornation. McClaren said post-match, he could of put Thorne in and seen the game out but wanted the game to end in any way other than a draw.
Reading barely threatened but had a quick breakaway against the run of play and got the first goal. But again, Derby pressed for an equaliser and duly got one with their new forward getting off the mark on his debut.
A short while later, Reading got the win and I’d say they probably shaded the 2nd half.
A win would of been nice for Derby but we’ve rested 7 key players for Rotherham on Tuesday.
Bournmouth dropped points today – I felt there might be an upset in that game and if Derby can pick up where we left off in our last league game, we could go top, if only for 24hrs.
Burton were top drawer ( I also said I was more confident on them delivering than my beloved derby ).
With Ipswich stuttering along with Bournmouth, the championship race is really starting to get interesting. Ipswich who have been dropping points this year along with Brentford but looking at the fixtures list, I’d say Middlesborough have probably the toughest games left of the top 4.

The Midlands derby kicks off Sundays action and we have seen the effect new managers have had at the likes of WBA, Crystal Palace and QPR. I don’t think Aston Villa will go down this season, and for one reason Christian Benteke. Teams in the relegation dog fight need a goal scorer and coming off a big injury it as took Benteke a long time to get back to his best. His scoring record this season isn’t great, but remember how Sherwood turned Adebayor around at spurs, 11 goals in 20 games.
For me Lambert sealed his fate when he left Villas best scorer on the bench the other week, he is clearly their best hope of staying up, and a goal in the cup against a big rival will not only get their main man going it gives the club a lift. I like Villa here against a Leicester side who look in total turmoil. They are 6/4 Various, but if he starts Benteke 9/5 Ladbrokes is who I want to be on.
I tipped both teams to score on Monday at the Bradford – MK Dons game despite all the talk of the pitch. I was right to do so and although it is a shocker, Sunderland must be looking at this competition as a chance to get to the final with a lot of big teams going out early. Last season I tipped Jermaine Defoe regularly in the Europa League and he is where I am going for this bet. Been ages since I’ve done a 6 fold on a WDW. Lets see how close we get.
Guingamp have lost 2 of their last 7, drawn 1, won four. Two wins have been against lower league Yzeure and Dinan-Lehon. Decent form but not a decent team. I’d rather have a sound home pick, maybe Hanover to score +1.5 goals or Genoa +1.5 goals, both around Evs
Paul C, go for it then. People can read stats in different ways – you forget to say they’ve also beaten Monaco and PSG in the league recently. There’s doubt over Guingamp because they’re away to a side fighting for their lives and against whom they have a poor record but I reckon it’s worth a gamble.
Just a word of team news on Athletico. They’re missing Koke, Turan and Garcia which probably indicates why they are such a good price away to Celta Vigo where they have covered the -1 handicap on the last two occasions they have travelled there.
Whilst a lot of their creative flair is lost with a more stubborn midfield the thought of Torres, Mandzukic and Griezmann as front three will be enough to scare the best defences in the world.
Key Facts:
– Celta have only failed to score once in the last seven games.
– Athletico have score 12 goals in 4 games (inc a minimum of 2 goals against Barcelona and Real Madrid)
I honestly think Celta possess a goal threat and wouldn’t be surprised to see them net, meaning Athletico will need to score twice to win the game. Despite their injuries they can still achieve this.

re: the discussion over French football.
Three times in the last year or so a team has blown a 2 goal lead with 5 minutes or less remaining, costing me a winning line. Each time it was from France. Robbed of a third goal there, useless linesman not keeping up with play. How they failed to see that was over the line though I’ll never know!

Will give the linesman the benefit of the doubt that he was in line with the last defender so in a decent position in regards to play. But how he couldn’t see the ball was over the line is beyond me!

Shortee, sorry I couldn’t advise you but was too busy putting the paper out. Three things that strike me – if you’re staking £400 on a treble you should know when to cover or cash out and it has to be done with such high stakes. The main aim is to protect the stake so the bigger it is the more important it is to do something. Secondly, it’s too much to stake on a tough treble and thirdly why are you telling the missus.

Jordan – I hope they win mate but can’t trust them. PRESTON will be up for it as its FA CUP and they will want to go through being the lower side team. I just can’t see Man Utd playing convincingly you know what I mean?? Betting on Man Utd to win or even a -1 is risky in my opinion
Harp this is only only chance of silverware in my opinion, but even then it might not be enough. It certainly wasn’t at Cambridge, and we haven’t looked convincing against Burnley or West Ham in our recent games. The home corwd against Burnley was awful, boos and moans and we could barely string 5 passes together. I’ve said on the preview I wouldn’t shy anyone away from backing Preston DC but it’s not something I’d personally put money on, and I certainly wouldn’t back United on the -1. Other fans may be optimistic and say it’s only Preston, but it was only Cambridge too…
