IT'S Valentine's Night and wouldn't your missus just love a night out in Aberdeen to watch the darts. Go checkout itsdate.com to find dates online

Forget Cupid's Arrow and just take her to see the arras – and hope she doesn't fire one at your bullseye.

Week one in Belfast was explosive and it promises to be action-packed in the Northern Lights.

First up it's Raymond van Barneveld v Wes Newton with the Dutchman a hot favourite at 8-11 with boylesports. He saw off the challenge of Scot Gary Anderson 7-4 last week and should take care of Newton who paid for too many double misses as he went down to James Wade.

Wade is next up against Andy Hamilton and it should be a close encounter. Hammy hasn't lost in his last five meetings to The Machine and performed well enough in his loss to tournament new boy Robert Thornton as he fought back from 5-1 down to level before losing 7-5.

Hamilton fared well against Wade last year and as it's the toughest to call tonight consider the underdog at +2.5 legs at 4-11 with bet365. To win Wade is the 6-5 favourite at Ladbrokes.

Home hopes rest partly with Anderson but he may find it tough going against cool Aussie Simon Whitlock who beat Adrian Lewis in round one. Whitlock has won six of their last eight meetings and with Anderson still to prove he's back to his best I'll be on Whitlock at 6-5 (various) although the crowd could help the Scot.

Anderson is 1-1 at William Hill to notch most 180s and while he finds the treble easy to hit it's missing doubles that often costs him.

Lewis is also struggling but was unbeaten in his two games against Phil Taylor last season and a meeting with The Power could be inspirational. Taylor was held 6-6 by Michael van Gerwen last week but I expect him to go one better with the win and he is 4-7 at Blue Square.

Thornton was thrilled to just be involved for the first time and even happier to win. But he's up against it when he faces Van Gerwen who is expected to silence the home crowd.

The Scots will warm to the Dutchman and it's hard to see past MVG at 5-6 with bet365.

first night was at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena.

Milesey, yeah I know, I was thinking of something else. Are they going to Wembley later?

I think the only night in London is at the 02, for the play offs and the final, i believe thats right anyway, i may be wrong.

You must be thinking of Robbie Williams, think he is playing wembley end of June, beginning of July, and we all know how big a fan you are ;)

Milesey, I thought he said he was looking forward to playing at Wembley, scene of so many Scottish triumphs. I can’t go Robbie Williams, that song Candy he had out recently really was the pits. I was a rocker in my youth – can’t beat Rush, AC/DC, Rainbow, Zeppelin, that sort of stuff.

    • Milesey 11 years ago

Maybe he is playing for scotland ;) ;)

Milesey, we’ve got Robert Snodgrass so don’t need Robert Thornton. Reckon we’ll spoil your party that night – we’re no easy touches like Brazil.

MR.F,Once a rocker always one.Get yourself along to ABC on Fri. 1st Mar. UFO are playin.S/S for me at darts is Anderson to win @ 12/7.Whitlock can hit 180s too.

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Alva, UFO are one that passed me by although I can recall a couple of their songs. Good luck with the darts. I need to see Anderson hitting the doubles before I’m convinced. And at the end of the day the 180s market is quite volatile although Anderson bags his fair share.

  3. John 11 years ago

My brother was at the darts in belfast and had a drink with a few of the players afterwards, might have a small bet tonight out of interest :-)

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

John, put your money on the darts stars having more drinks at Aberdeen – but they’ll need to buy their own!

Good website for checking all darts related things is Darts Mad.It gives you tips, fixtures, results etc.Btw Scottish open is this weekend at Normandy,Renfrew.

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Alva, any big names playing at Renfrew?

  5. Seve 11 years ago

Have to go against you here Fixit, Newton I feel has the better game at the moment compared to Barney who has been shaky over the last year, and I think is huge at 3/1.

Will be sticking Van Gerwen on aswell

    Double
    Wes Newton 3/1
    Van Gerwen 8/15

    5.13/1

    • Milesey 11 years ago

Newton was terrible last week, appalling on the doubles, I would go for the Barney win myself, but each to their own, that’s what it’s all about.

Van Gerwen is pretty short but I can’t see him not winning. He’ll be disappointed he couldn’t close the match last week and will be desperate for the win. He’s certainly a class above Thornton who was inconsistent last week despite the win.

Barney usually gets a good result in Scotland, with the Barney army behind him. Very rarely does he lose here. The support he gets in Aberdeen and Glasgow is incredible. He’s an adopted Scot. I’m sure they’ll be in full voice again tonight. I don’t think Wes Newton will have experienced an atmosphere like this. Barney for the win.

    BARNEY ARMY, BARNEY ARMY.

    wow AMAZING !

  8. 1plus2 11 years ago

Pretty easy for Barney there is newton to be bet against every week seems a bit out his depth ?

  9. 1plus2 11 years ago

Hope Hamilton does Wade here Wades one of the most ignorant players out there and the most unliked i would hazard a guess as well Go Andy !!!

  10. Guido 11 years ago

    no keen on either 1plus2

    • 1plus2 11 years ago

I prefer Hamilton out of the 2 m8

  11. 1plus2 11 years ago

Get in there Hamilton point at least

  12. 1plus2 11 years ago

    Well done Hamilton

  13. Bryan 11 years ago

  14. gunner 11 years ago

whitlooooooockk to win but very even matched cmon u gunnnnerssss

  15. gunner 11 years ago

anderson scoring is mint cant see him loseing

  16. Bryan 11 years ago

He’s always a high scorer but struggles with the doubles.

  17. gunner 11 years ago

if u had anderson collect money :)))))))

  18. Bryan 11 years ago

What is Anderson like with these doubles?!!!!

  19. Bryan 11 years ago

Finally Gary hits a double! lol

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Bryan, what’s the latest with Anderson?

  20. Bryan 11 years ago

He won 7-5 Paul but he was shocking on the doubles again. Only a 25% success rate. Whitlock was unlucky not to sneak a draw after being well behind.

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Bryan, that’s always the fear with Anderson. How many 180s?

  21. gunner 11 years ago

Bryan, that’s always the fear with Anderson. How many 180s?

  22. Bryan 11 years ago

I’m avoiding it gunner. I don’t see value on either player.

Don’t know how many 180’s Anderson got Mr Fixit.

  23. gunner 11 years ago

  26. Ellis 11 years ago

usually pretty spot on with the darts went for the five fold tonight

    RVB (WIN)
    HAMILTON(WIN)
    ANDERSON (WIN)
    TAYLOR (WIN)

    MVG (LOST :( )

Really didn’t expect that and guuted it let me down on my 26/1 accumulator. wouldn’t have predicted the draw at all!

    • Guido 11 years ago

Ellis..why ya not put a bit on the dra/Thonton to cover ya?? :-(

    • Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Ellis, good start for Thornton but thought MVG would be too good.
