Dec 6: Johnb’s Racing Tips & Chat

Racing_WilliamHill

THERE was no luck for Johnb on Saturday as his Nap Special Tiara ran as expected but after being badly hampered at the last he could only finish second.

The horse was also put up antepost at 16-1 each-way and our man says: “That was always nailed on to happen but the stewards decision not to reverse the placings was met by what sounded like three quartets of the crowd booing.”

His 25-1 NB Fort Smith was third but wasn’t advised each-way and Savello let down the each-way treble by only getting fourth so December is now a 4.21pt profit.

Johnb’s Sunday Tips

Punchestown 1.50
Foxrock 9-1 NAP Ladbrokes Betfred

Huntingdon 2.0
Camping Ground 11-1 NB Paddy Power

Double
Foxrock & Camping Ground 107-1 Paddy Power

Camping Ground NB

I think the majority of people will be stunned with this tip as the race has horses like Ptit Zig, Al Ferof, Pepit Rose and Wishful Thinking in it.

Camping Ground is a strong pick although he is the outsider of the field, racing here against seasoned pros and the new kid Ptit Zig, Camping Ground is by far the least experienced but is only 5yo. I have had my eye on this horse for a long time as I see this horse challenging for alot of the top races for a few years to come.

He won his first race since coming over from France at Warwick I. A Class 2 on heavy ground, admittedly it wasn’t the strongest of races but it was impressive, he then went back to hurdling in the Imperial Cup at Sandown where he came a good fourth.

He actually finished a length and a quarter and a place in front of my World Hurdle tip Thistlecrack, that was impressive as he was also giving Thistlecrack 15lb in weight. Camping Ground has also won on all types of ground from good to heavy, he has won 6 and been placed in 3 of his 10 runs, he is a good jumper and receives 6lb in this race.

Camping Ground is a multi-talented horse over hurdles and fences, he is also adaptable when it comes to a running style as he has bags of speed but he is also stayer. Huntingdon is a fast flat track, it also has some hard fences but Camping Ground is a good jumper.

    Saturday’s Tips
    Cachao 11/10 nap LOST
    Street Force 5/2 nb WIN

First day on the forum ends in profit so let’s hope it keeps going

    Sunday’s Tips

    12.40 Punchestown Yorkhill 1/2 -NAP

Won 3 in a row looking very impressive in all. He was supposed to run Thursday but the meeting was called off. Before called off, he was as short as 1/5 in some places. This is slightly harder opposition, but still should win with ease as long as he doesn’t make any slip ups. Odds reflect his chances so are clearly not great. He’s in my top 5 list to watch over the jumps season so I have a lot of confidence in this horse’s ability. The Mullins/Walsh combination should ease home here which is why he’s my NAP

    2.45 Kelso
    Libby Mae 13/8 NB

Won around 2 weeks ago at sedgefield over the same distance of 2m4f and has won 2 out of 3 of her bumpers. She can handle the ground as she has won in soft before (ground will likely be soft or heavy). My Little Cracker and Innis Shannon are the two threats according to the market, but if you look into the form of both of these, it works out that they have won against some pretty poor opposition. Won’t be straight forward, but if form is king, then she should go on to win.

The double comes out as 2.94/1
Will be having medium-high stakes on the singles then a smaller stake on the double.
    GL All.

    Sunday meetings

    5:22PM 5 DEC 2015

STORMY weather may take a heavy toll on Sunday racing with conditions in Ireland forcing Punchestown to arrange an 8am inspection for the John Durkan Memorial Chase meeting on Sunday.

Kelso’s seven-race card may also be subject to an inspection in the morning if heavy rain hits the track, though forecasts suggest the track should avoid most of the rainfall.

With rain rather than wind causing concern in Ireland, Punchestown will inspect on Sunday morning, but officials are confident of getting the all clear.

The track’s racing manager Richie Galway said on Saturday morning: “Our ground is heavy and we’ve had a lot of rain in recent days. The track has taken the rain quite well and we are raceable.

“We had 13 millimetres of rain overnight following 30 millimetres in the previous 24 hours and there is the possibility of between 10 and 20 millimetres overnight. Sunday is supposed to be dry and we’ve had no problems with the wind.

“We’ll assess the situation in the morning but at this stage I’d be quite confident that we will race.”

Navan were forced to abandon Saturday’s card at 9am, prior to an arranged inspection, due to “a deterioration in weather conditions”.

    Kelso conditions

Kelso are yet to announce an inspection for Sunday’s card but are keeping a close eye on conditions with heavy rain and some flooding in the area on Saturday.

The ground was heavy on Saturday night and clerk of the course Anthea Morshead said the Met Office forecast indicates the heavy rain will miss the racetrack.

Morshead said: “We have missed the majority of the heavy rain on Saturday and only recorded 3mm of rain since 7am on Saturday morning.

“The Met Office predict we will miss most of the rain tonight and if that is the case then we should be fine. We were raceable today and would have had no obstacles omitted. We’d take more rain but any heavy, persistent rain might cause a problem, but we’re not forecast any to that extent.”

Wednesday’s meeting at Hexham and Thursday’s meeting at Newcastle are both in doubt with the tracks currently heavy, waterlogged in places and more rain over the weekend and into next week.

bertie the two Mullins horses Valseur Lido & Djakadam are being trained with other races in mind, they won’t be 100% for today
Foxrock is too high a price for the form of this race, he will have been trained with this race in mind and will love the ground

I would say though, that Foxrock would ideally want further than this 2m 4f today but with ground being as heavy as it is it shouldn’t be a problem

Johnb knowing our rules am sure you were not expecting the stewards to reverse placings and give Special Tiara the race unless it had closed the gap down to a nose there was no chance IMO really unlucky loser but no chance of getting the race.
Only bet for me today is Djakadam av bet it at 5/2 also herd this horse is alot further forward than alot of other Mullins horses for its 1st run as the team and Richi rich dont class it in the same league as Vautour hence them trying to win these easier races with it 2m4 is plenty short enough for it but i think its stamina and class will win the race.
    Good luck all

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 1 year ago

stevieg the rules are not for a nose, the rule is if sufficient ground was lost that would cost a horse the race,
The way Special Tiara landed “virtually sideways” in my opinion has cost Special Tiara more than the three quartets of a length that the horse was beaten
The stewards said it was accidental because Sire De Grugy jumped left and Moore couldnt have avoided it,
My perception of the incident was that Moore knew where Special Tiara was and that the horse was closing and with a horse that is known to jump left its easy for a jockey to make the horse jump left even more and as we can see Sire De Grugy jumped violently left which was down to the jockey,
Moore was also guilty of overusing the whip which along with the interference was enough to give Sire De Grugy an unfair advantage

This is the official Stewards report below

Race 6 – 3:00pm THE BETFAIR TINGLE CREEK STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 1) (Grade 1)

The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference at the final fence.
Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, SIRE DE GRUGY (FR), ridden by Jamie Moore, had interfered with SPECIAL TIARA, placed second, ridden by Noel Fehily. They found that the interference was accidental, in that the gelding had jumped left-handed and the rider was unable to prevent him from doing so. They considered that the interference had not improved SIRE DE GRUGY (FR)’s placing as, although the interference cost SPECIAL TIARA some ground and momentum, the winner appeared to be holding him comfortably on the run to the line.
The Stewards ordered the placings to remain unaltered.

They further enquired into the use of the whip by Jamie Moore, the rider of the winner, SIRE DE GRUGY (FR), from the final fence. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the race, they found him in breach of Schedule (B)6 Part 2 in that he had used his whip above the permitted level. The Stewards suspended Moore for 2 days as follows: Sunday 20 and Monday 21 December 2015.

Absolutely robbed on special tiara Johnb , henry b is going to appeal. Will money be refunded or punters paid anything, if placing are reversed next week?

the don cossack, I’m not a racing expert but I’d say bookies will pay on the actual result and not on the appeal.
If they did they’d need to wait to see if every result was going to be appealed before settling.
Some might refund stakes as a goodwill gesture if it’s overturned.

      • Profile photo of

Johnb I meant if it got as close as a nose even short head you might have had a chance but Special Tiara never got close enough for the stewards to even think about changing it Sire De Grugy was always holding it in the last 50 yards or so horses jump into each other all the time they way British rules are set up to benefit the winner not a chance it was being reversed France or even Ireland it would have been reversed and they have no chance in an appeal because nobody can say Special Tiara was going to win without the bump.

    Volunteer Point NAP

Run at Chelmsford last time was eye-catching, the horse was never put into a good position but still ran on strongly to get 2nd,
at the furlong pole he was about 8 lengths behind the winner but was beat just under 2 lengths
Trainer Mick Channon has gone for a change in jockey and they don’t come any better than Graham Gibbons,
Drawn in stall 1 on Monday Gibbons can take advantage of that and have the horse better placed,
Volunteer Point just needs to be within a couple of lengths turning for home to take all the beating, but coming from stall 1 I would like to see the jockey make the pace

Just an indication as to how my Tips are doing this year for profits,
I calculate my profit/loss to a level 1 point stake unless stated otherwise like double stake Tips for joint NAP/Nb’s
At the moment I am about 104 points up

    Now Pricewise stats
Pricewise advises 10 point Stakes per selection and so far he is 237 points down for the year

Adjust my stats to 10 points like pricewise instead of 1 point and my profits for the year is 1040 points profit

Just noticed Pricewise advised the same two Tips as me on Sunday
