THE World Darts Championship is back after a four-day break with a super Saturday
line-up as round two gets under way.

Defending champ Michael van Gerwen is just 1-40 to progress past Sascha Stein while a trio of Scots – all seeded in the top 10 – are hoping to do the Dartin' Army proud. Top of the bill is Gary Anderson v Jelle Klaasen, with the Scot 2-9 against the 17-4 Dutch ace in a clash that has the makings of a classic.

Robert Thornton is 1-3 to see off Ronnie Baxter (14-5) while compatriot Peter Wright is 1-4 against 19-5 outsider Ronny Huybrechts.

Completing the fixture list is Terry Jenkins v Lawrence Ryder and Dave Chisnall against Benito van de Pas.

The rugby union action includes the first of an inter-city festive double-header as Glasgow and Edinburgh fight it out for the 1872 Cup. Glasgow are big favourites at 1-7 against the 6-1 visitors to triumph on home soil today.

Elsewhere there's the likes of NBA basketball, international Test cricket and ITF tennis on a packed day of sport.

Good luck if you're having a punt and let's hear your sporting tips and thoughts.

    Morning Guys, Darts bets

Hope you all had a great Christmas, the Worlds really start now start as we have seen all the first rounder’s and having only placed a few small bets in the first round I was delighted to sign off before Christmas with 4 out of 5.

    Thornton v Baxter

These two were impressive in their opening round matches, Thornton averaged 97.65 while Baxter averaged 94.64, and they both hit 4 maximums each. Thornton is a huge odds on favourite but I suspect this will be closer than the bookies think. Ronnie Baxter as won 3 out the last 4 since 2010, but this year its 1 win each but those have been on the pro tour. I suspect Thornton with his recent big stage experience to come though, but the rocket will give him a game. I will be on O23.5 legs at evens William Hill. This is best of seven sets now, and as I say I expect Thornton to win a close one.

If it does go close than we can see the maximums hit and with 4 each in their first round, then O11.5 could be within reach too. This is the first match of the second round and after a big Christmas the crowd will just be warming up for the late afternoon games and especially the evening games, so the players may get to play in a more less noisy atmosphere, and it should help both guys to settle in. O11.5 maximums is 5/4 Stan James.

    O23.5 TOTAL LEGS 1/1
    O11.5 TOTAL 180s 5/4

    Afternoon treble

    THORNTON
    JENKINS
    WRIGHT

All to win 11/10 William Hill

Good luck if your having a bet

  3. Attila 9 years ago

    • huggybear 9 years ago

mate singles 40% each and 20% on the double….

FINGERS CROSSED , cant be worse than scottish footy

    • Attila 9 years ago

HUGGY, cheers mate I’m on it. No tips from me tonight as been too busy to research properly. From my quick glance though these 2 games do stand out to me too.

Btw – Scottish footy is currently crazy…total wipeout on Mr F’s tips tonight…nit 1 game went the way it should have, bit like NBA lately, lol

  4. Breenie 9 years ago

  7. QPR FAN 9 years ago

is that +9.5 on both games huggy?

  8. Alves 9 years ago

9 darter getting closer, hopefully MVG gets one tonight and Anderson wins 4-2, 50p on a treble for £369 with Bunting winning 3-1 :)

    • thechief 9 years ago

Craig, it could go tonight mate, think we will see 2 during the tournament.

  9. QPR FAN 9 years ago

never mind mate. I jsut realised thats a silly question :P

  10. Alves 9 years ago

I made a bit of money on betting the heavy odds o. faves, Dolan and Lewis, to win each set 3-0 & 3-1 putting a wee bit extra on the smaller price. MVG is 1/66 to win byt 6/5 3-0 2/1 3-1 in 1st set, just say £10 stake with £6 & £4 split as chances are he’ll win 4-0 and just going all in, risky i know but keeps interest all game if goes yoyr way for small bet

  12. Claretnblue 9 years ago

Anything worth having in the darts or NBA tonight?

  13. InterYerNan 9 years ago

Chief mate anything on tonights darts?

  14. thechief 9 years ago

Evening Guys, I landed a pretty easy treble this afternoon at 11/10 and surely would have won on the maximums had Baxter bothered to turn up. It was a great afternoon anyhow thanks to Emperors choice landing the national at 14/1.

Tonight sees three games, and it looks a night for maximums to me.

    Chisnall v Van de Pas

This could be closer than the bookies suggest as they both only averaged 86 in their opener, with Van de Pas knocking out Paul Nicholson. Chizzy has had high and lows at the worlds beating Taylor and then last year losing in round 1 against John Henderson. I think Chizzy as more gears to go through, but these young Dutchmen know how to hit the trebles and I think Van de Pas may be more competitive than the odds suggest. I think there will be enough legs for Chisnall to go O7.5 total 180s, he is one of the best if not the best when on song for hammering the treble 20. It is 6/5 Coral.

    Anderson v Klaasen

Apart from the Wade v Bunting match this is the highlight of round two for me. I just hope Klaasen turns up because if he does we could be in for an absolute cracker played at a blinding pace. Anderson has won 7 of their previous 13 meetings including the last 3, but Klaasen is getting back to his best form this season. He averaged 96.97 in the first round whilst Anderson just over 86, if this happens tonight then Klaasen at 4/1 looks huge.

I was going for total match 180s but in Klaasen first round on 4 occasions he hit two treble 20s and with his 3rd dart hit treble 18, he hit the 174 three times against Kist, so Instead I am siding with Anderson despite only hitting 3 maximums in his first rounder, to go O7.5 tonight. He is a heavy scorer and if Klaasen plays like he did against Kist we could see at least 5 sets, the pace will suit Anderson this time around and I will be on him at 11/10 Coral.

In my ante post preview I tipped we would see at least 2 nine darters in the tournament. Jenkins missed double 12 this afternoon, and on this day last year we saw two in the same session. If you haven’t had a bet on it yet then I would be on before tonight, with Chisnall, MVG, Klaasen and Anderson in action we may see one tonight. A nine darter tonight is 8/1 William Hill and I still think some firms will let you get on 2 or more, I know William Hill still are 3/1

    CHISNALL O7.5 TOTAL 180s 6/5
    ANDERSON O7.5 TOTAL 180s 11/10

Good luck if your having a bet

  15. InterYerNan 9 years ago

    Cheers chief!

  16. james slater 9 years ago

on your tip chief stuck 15 on it with 50 returns!

  17. thechief 9 years ago

No worries Inter mate, good luck.

    James good luck mate.

  18. james slater 9 years ago

cheers mate, dont really do darts bets but liked your write up lets hope it lands!

  19. james slater 9 years ago

not a great deal of 180’s so far, cause for concern?

  20. james slater 9 years ago

sorry my william hill in play is shite with the 180’s update i can see he’s on 4

  21. JoeX 9 years ago

Van De Pas is opening the game up, more legs = more chance Chizzy can achieve another 4 180’s.

He’s throwing shit just now though. He shifted low to get confidence then we had a wee streak of 180’s. Hopefully we get sme more, he is more than capable and Dave knows he’s in a match now.

    I got on over 6.5 180’s @6/5 in-play.

  22. james slater 9 years ago

i need another 2 as i took over 6.5 doesn’t look too likely

  23. JoeX 9 years ago

Chizzy just wasn’t on his game at all there.

  24. thechief 9 years ago

Great game of darts, Could it be a hat trick for the dutch?. Unlike the Baxter game I can have no complaints, these young Dutchmen can hammer the treble 20 as I said earlier, but didn’t expect Chizzy to be outscored.

    It is MVG time!!!

  25. Pablo 9 years ago

MVG 4/7 4-0 back under 4.5 sets at 7/10 same outcome better price. William Hill

  26. conor 9 years ago

Hate darts never get a winner

  27. JoeX 9 years ago

Chief. you’re bang on, great darts, infact even the MVG match is proving to be a turn.

On your tip for Gary Anderson. Whats your reasoning for Gays 180 chances.

I can’t recall him hittin 180’s consistently but then again I’m usually peeshed watching the arraz.

  28. thechief 9 years ago

Joex, haha you must be peeshed every time you watch him then mate. Anderson is probably the best two or three 180 hitters in darts. My only worry is there is not enough legs if Klaasen doesn’t turn up. This game will see loads of heavy scoring and be played a really fast pace. If they both click then every chance.

  29. JoeX 9 years ago

Braw m8, ta. Aye Darts is and always has been a sport involved wae a few sips of the bad mans ginger lol.

Going by the nights matches so far, the underdogs have turned up. It’s the premier line up of the night eh. Let’s hope it continues.

    Good luck.

  30. thechief 9 years ago

aye rude not to join in the darts party, with a few beers :) been a good night of darts lets hope this one delivers. Good luck mate

    • ticketyboo 9 years ago

The Chief thanks for the tip “Emperor’s Choice” earlier today mate.

    • thechief 9 years ago

ticketyboo, cheers mate, I don’t normally tip on the racing thread as its such a hard task and well done too you and all the boys on that thread, but having had a big winner last year in the race (and dined out on it all year) haha! I felt I should post who I fancied. I will be on there next year going for a hat trick :)

  31. JoeX 9 years ago

Nice wee resource for anyone interested in stats below.

    CHIEF.

Not far off wae Anderson going by the link below over the past year.

No4, 1x 180 behind Aidy Lewis, which he’ll surely pass tonight and hopefully pass Chizzy although I’m not sure if its been updated with tonights results.

    http://www.dartsdatabase.co.uk/PlayerStats.aspx

  32. JoeX 9 years ago

In the past month Gary Anderson is top 180 hitter with 40.

    Lewis 35

MVG 24 or 32 (depending if the DB is updated real time)

  33. thechief 9 years ago

MVG just hit 8 mate, so not sure if it is updated. The big major before the worlds Ando won the players championships he hit 9 against VVV and Lewis in the final and 7 in beating Taylor in the quarters, and that was leg formats. We just need another cracking game plenty of legs, plenty of sets and should be very close if not closer to double figures :)

  34. JoeX 9 years ago

Hope Klaasen perks up as he’s looking despondent already.

Darts has ploughs and troughs but is Gary capable of missing doubles, IDK.

  35. JoeX 9 years ago

    Well, well, well Chief.

What a match we have on the oche here.

Klaasen throwing some awesome darts and the 180’s and bombing in!

  36. thechief 9 years ago

Klaasen missed seven darts at double in that first set could have been 2 legs up and lost the set 3-0, that’s the danger in darts, players need to take chances, to cover the overs. Baxter knows what I am talking about.

  37. InterYerNan 9 years ago

Good shout on the Anderson 180s chief hes going wild :)

  38. Attila 9 years ago

Not a tip but if anyone’s interested I’ve done the following 7 FOLD:

    – Hornets +5.5 (NBA)
    – Wizards ML (NBA)
    – Bulls +2.5 (NBA)
    – Jazz ML (NBA)
    – Tampa Bay Lightning ML (NHL)
    – New York Rangers ML (NHL)
    – New York Islanders +1.5 (NHL)

    Pays ODDS of $4.00 (3/1).

I have researched all the games and picks are based primarily on recent form as well as past h2h’s.

Good luck if you choose to follow me (this is a personal bet tho, not a true ‘tip’).

  39. JoeX 9 years ago

This last 180 is killin me here!

If Klaasen comes out firing this bets a bogey. Gary is not firing at all just now. Needs a Gary Anderson set here.

  40. InterYerNan 9 years ago

Joex I cashed out…offer was 2pound off max return so just took it!!

  41. JoeX 9 years ago

  46. Attila 9 years ago

Yesevil, I use livescores.com.au for form & h2h stats, etc. Also use Espn NBA page for team news, lineups, etc.

  47. Yesevil 9 years ago

Cheers Attila, appreciate the info pal

  48. thechief 9 years ago

Danny, Joe, cheers guys best game of the tournament so far, love when two fast heavy scorers come to the oche and deliver they always tend to be great matches.

  49. Attila 9 years ago

    Aussie NBL Basketball:

    – Melbourne Utd -1.5 @ $1.90

Melbourne are in good form having won their last 4 from 5 and should win this easily. Perth Wildcats are on a poor run of form at the moment and having lost their last 3 straight away games I don’t see that changing today.

    GL if you follow.

  50. moswei 9 years ago

Cheers for your Aus double last night Attila. Dug me out of a small hole which was promptly re-dug on the Scots footy today … grrr.

  51. Attila 9 years ago

    @moswei & @Dylan,

Glad you guys got on my Aussie NBL double yesterday. Not that many games a see from Aus (compared to NBA) but ill post whenever I’m confident.

Did YA’s get on my Melbourne Utd single day? They’ve started well, looking promising.

  52. Shooto 9 years ago

    Good picks huggy,
    Done £100 on Utah jazz – 10
And pelicans + 10 good sweat on both games
But decided to throw in Sacramento kings -6.5
To make the treble just short of 6/1
In with a chance so here’s hoping

  53. Attila 9 years ago

71-71 in the Melbourne game. Onto Overtime. Get I. The Melbourne!

  54. BigD 9 years ago
