THE only online bookie that lists SPFL first-scorer prices for every game are McBookie. It’s a fantastic service but of course there is a limited card this weekend.
McBookie‘s Damian Walker gives his first-scorer tips every weekend and challenges punters to pick their own. Last weekend he picked another winner thanks to John Baird of Falkirk at 15-2. He netted a penalty that never was – good old Willie Collum!
Leave your tip as a comment and quote player’s club and first-scorer price with McBookie – Scottish games only. Here is Damian with this week’s selections.
He says: Another good weekend last Saturday thanks to Baird’s opener for Falkirk in their 2-1 win over Rangers. Goodness knows how the Bairns were 11-2 for that game?
“I also tipped Stirling to beat leaders Annan but got the Peterhead result spectacularly wrong and that is where we’ll start this festive tipping piece. The Blue Toon are now unbeaten in seven league matches in a run that stretches back to October and includes last weekend’s 3-0 win over second-placed Ayr and a 0-0 draw away to runaway leaders Dunfermline.
“Peterhead have scored 15 goals during those seven matches and I thought they should be clear favourites to win at Airdrie this weekend but all the bookies can’t seem to split the pair.
“It is also a great time for Peterhead to be visiting the Excelsior Stadium as manager Gary Bollan has just left to go to Forfar and the Diamonds have won just two of their last seven in the league and they were against the same struggling Forfar and bottom-placed Stranraer.
“It usually doesn’t pay trying to be too clever finding a Peterhead first scorer as Rory McAllister has scored 21 goals from 24 appearances this season. The striker is without a goal in three games which is longest period without a goal this season. McBookie make him 4-1 to end the drought.
“In the Premiership I am tipping a first scorer from a side that have won just one of their last nine matches – namely Dundee. The Dee haven’t actually performed as badly as those stats would suggest as amazingly five of those matches were 1-1 draws.
“Plus they thrashed Hamilton Accies 4-0 last weekend so I think they are overpriced at 11-4 for their visit to Dingwall to face Ross County. The Staggies have lost five of their last seven matches and shouldn’t really be a shade of odds on to win this in my opinion.
“Dundee striker Kane Hemmings couldn’t be in better form having scored a hat-trick against the Accies last weekend making it nine goals from 19 appearances this season. Hemmings is 6-1 with McBookie to pick up where he left off with the first goal of the game on Boxing Day.
“Stirling Albion’s recent wins have boosted my Christmas coffers and for the third week running I’ll try to find a first scorer for them. Zero out of two so far.
“Anyway I am absolutely staggered that all the bookies (McBookie included) have Stirling at odds against for their home game with East Fife. Maybe the Christmas parties have taken their toll on the odds compilers so read the next two pars and then ask yourself what price you’d be about Stirling?
“The Binos have now won seven of their last eight matches including last weekend’s 1-0 win over leaders Annan. By contrast East Fife have just won one of their last 11 matches and that was a 5-3 win over bottom side East Stirling.
“It is no exaggeration I would rate Stirling 8-13 or 4-7 shots for this game so 23-20 is really a massive price.
“Steven Doris is 4-1 with McBookie to score the first goal so hopefully we get can finally got both the result and a first scorer.”
Can you find a winner this weekend?
Doris (Stirling) 4-1
McAllister (Peterhead) 4-1
Hemmings (Dundee) 6-1
