Well that’s what you get for going with your gutt instead of your brain. And if it couldn’t be anymore frustrating, ‘yes you guessed it’, Tel Aviv won by double digits!

Instead of studying the following days card I decided to study my fourfolds from the start of the season. Of the 13 Fourfolds placed, 2 have landed….one at 48/1 and the other at 14/1. With a 1pt stake on each that would give me 51 points profit. Of those 13 fourfolds totaling 52 separate lines, 37 of those have won. The average odds of each line works out at 20/23. Had all of these lines been placed as singles with 1pt stakes, this would equated to 17.17pts profit. Adding this to to the 51pts profit from the two fourfolds landed would give a total yield of 68.17pts.
I already noticed this trend 3 weeks ago and started placing each line from the fourfold as separate singles bets but this was a worthwhile exercise to see some numbers.
I’m going to follow this strategy for a while and limit the rest of my betting. My NBA picks have been nothing short of atrocious and although I’ve not looked at my Euro Basketball bets outwith my fourfolds, I know it’s knowhere near 68pts.
So why would there be such a difference between this system and just placing singles with a given stake total? As an example I’ll use two of the most consistent tippers on this thread, Jordan & Huggy….Their method is based on risk versus reward. They will research their given game, find a bet they like, weigh-up the risk versus reward and apply a stake amount based on that. The risk versus reward is where I struggle! I have consistently put up bets which are greater odds than above Evens and will land a fair share of these but always put my lowest stake amount. Equally I’ll put up bets which are below evens and add a higher stake to this, sometimes as much as 10pts, these are the bets which I don’t have a high strike rate with and ultimately leads to big losses. Jordan and Huggy have perfected this method which takes a lot of hardwork, patience and discipline. For me, I’ve always struggled for consistency and always like to try something different to address this. It was just the other week I had a losing streak of 5 days which incurred some big losses. Switching to my fourfold method forces me to stick to level stakes and gradually build-up some consistency without the worry of knowing what stakes to apply to each bet.
I’m not sure if this helps anyone else but I feel it’s good to share views just as much as sharing a winning bet.
Well done to those with winners on the American Football & Basketball. Looks like Jordans had another good one, and I’m pretty sure there were some cracking NBA picks again.

Staking/money management is definitely something I’m still trying to perfect.
At the moment I’m hovering around a 60% win rate on my NBA bets, which I’m happy with, but I know that I should probably be in more profit than I am.
This is solely down to staking, and I’ve recently been trying out different methods. My old method wasn’t working, similarly to you I’d high stake my ‘confident pick’ then evenly spread any other bets. The issues I’ve had is my big stake loses, then I’m playing catch up and hoping the others come in to break even or make a small profit.
Until I perfect my method I’ve decided it’s best to evenly stake all my bets, unless I’m VERY confident about something.
Keep up the good work hunter, your Euro Basketball knowledge is invaluable here, and we’ve all profited from it.

Just to clarify….I will be placing a fourfold and all four selections as singles.
After a bad patch I started making small profit using this method and then decided to stop any other bets which has increased profit even more. It’s early days but if I had done this from the outset, the numbers make good reading. All going well, with profit, I will allow myself to follow whoever is in form on the NBA or NFL.
And yeh, i knew Strasbourg would lose, lol, but i still followed haha. I hate taking teams with poor away records. Wish id left it out and did the treble instead. Ah well
There’s was enough doubt there to make me want to change it to what would have been Tel Aviv :( Nevermind, but I appreciate that kind of feedback so keep doing it. Will prob all some time after posting before placing the bet.

Close night yesterday … Clippers/Pistons game was very poor, Pistons did manage to get it to overtime which landed the over bet. Sixers did show up but only for the 1st half before getting blown away by the Bulls, but challenge bet landed comfortably.
Thanks to the people who pointed me out that Jazz were playing away, Spurs proved they are Champions at home (won by a huge 35 pts). The other bet I liked (Rockets/Nuggets over 209.5) came in smoothly and I’m wondering why I left it out in the end.
Oh and for those that still wonder, the Wizards suck.

Shotty, both spreads look sound, and there’s not much to say about them. I usually prefer spread over points anyway! Toss a coin between the two totals. With the Nancy game…they really need to win this by quite a margin to have much chance of qualifying, so I’d expect them to push the tempo here to score a lot of points which should suit for Ulm as well as they like to run with the pace.
With regards to Banvit / Aris, we have two solid defences and there’s a good chance they could nullify one another.

I wouldn’t say me and huggy have perfected it haha, but we certainly have more good days than bad! A good read though Ross! You’ve pretty much nailed it, obviously the majority of American sports bets are 50/50, but unlike scoring a goal in football which is still 50/50, its still much more difficult than say an NBA team winning by a spread. You won’t see me staking quite so high on the NBA, but I study the NFL so thoroughly that I like to think I could stake a grand on most bets and win the majority, although I wouldn’t stake a grand as that’s just madness. If you’re highly confident then higher stakes can pay off, but can also fail miserably. Research, gut and that pot luck. That’s what I put it down to!

Huggy, I hear ya bud but unfortunately the numbers don’t lie. I made some good profit at the start of the season but lost a fair chunk of that with 3 separate 10 pointers in the space of 5 days. It’s frustrating because this could potentially be the 10th from 14 fourfolds that have just fallen short by one line with 2 of the 14 landing. My theory is that if I’m going to land the odd fourfold and profit from the singles then good profit will come. Having said this, it certainly might be worth increasing stakes on the singles to 2 or 3 points and stick to the 1 point on the fourfold.
With regards to the NBA, I might just do that….start off on small stakes and follow you guys for a bit.?

Lebron will have to score over 25 points for the Cavs to win in view of the fact Celtic s have a good offence and a great defence. This wont be a blow-out Cavs are missing one of their elite shooters in Irving. Besides the last game Kevin Love is out of sorts and I don’t see James getting much rest throughout this game which gives him a larger chance of attaining his points total.This is all based upon my biased perspective. Kyrie adds his skills by having probably the best dribbling ability in the league and he can get to the basket better than anyone else.

I must have missed the part that said Kyrie Irving is Clevelands best shooter. Like I said. His ability to drive to the basket for layups is better than most in the NBA which is how he gets the majority of his points with the added foul. Yes, he can shoot, but best shooter? No. Could even argue LeBron is but I’d but Love over him.
