Dec 14: NFL & Other Sports Tips

MRF_SportsTips

NEW YORK GIANTS attempt to stop the rot in the Monday night NFL clash when they travel to Miami Dolphins.

The Giants have lost three in a row – most recently a painful overtime defeat to city rivals the Jets – to pile the pressure on head coach Tom Coughlin.

They’re hoping for a change of luck against a Dolphins side who are no great shakes either and prop up the AFC East with the same 5-7 record as Coughlin’s team.

Dolphins head into the game on the back of a win over Baltimore Ravens and are 6-5 with bet365 for victory against a Giants side chalked up at 9-11 by marathonbet.

Giants’ superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham is favourite in the any time touchdown market at 11-13 with bwin followed by Dolphins pair Lamar Miller (11-10, Unibet) and Jarvis Landry (5-4, William Hill).

There’s also a 10-game NBA card tonight featuring the likes of Philadelphia 76ers who look for just their second win of the season when they visit Chicago Bulls.

Let’s hear all your sporting tips and chat here and on the forums and good luck with your bets.

That would be me Filipino but never took it myself.

Danny Amendola (New England Patriots) Over 68.5 Receiving Yards @ Paddy Power – 3.6 points **LOSE** 46. Caught one for 21 yards which was pulled back for holding and another 19 yard pass was ruled incomplete so close but no cigar.

Durants total points, rebounds and assists came in but couldn’t get enough boards and three of the four NBA bets I picked out earlier in the day landed. No prizes for putting thoughts though.

Can’t complain after the Sunday I had thanks to the earlier NFL winners. No work today so will have a quick browse when I can for tonights MNF game. First thoughts are OBJ to shine in primetime against a bad secondary. Lamar Miller could also have a good night on the ground but those are just off the top of my head. Think Miller was about 65 total rush yards when I checked yesterday morning so will have another look later.

    Well done to yesterdays winners!

    Utah Jazz +9.5 @ 1.90. – *WON*

Only 1 bet from me last night and it was a winner 😀 I tipped this one pretty early so hopefully some of you jumped on it.

That completed an awesome Sunday! Thanks to hunters 14/1 acca it was a very profitable day.

    Congrats to all the winners.

Congrats to all winners! Hunter, Huggy, Jordan … proving the other sports thread = best thread 😀
Raoul backing winners again too 😀

Didn’t manage to post yesterday but had 1 winner (Utah +9) and 1 loser (Raptors over 102 team points), so doesn’t affect stats.

Not much to bet on early today, but if anyone wants i have a bet which looks good (starts in 15mins):

    – Winnus vs Woori Bank Hansae UNDER 125.5 pts @ $1.88

(This is Korean womens Bball) – these 2 have both gone under this total in 3 of their last 5, and both their matchups so dar this season have easily one under todays total.

I took Woori at -9 on the spread as they covered it by almost double in every previous meeting. Looks like we’re both off to a bad start.

^^ LOST – hopeless bet. Looks like i should go the opposite of what trends suggest.
@ Baggio – Glad Woori came thru with the goods for you, dont know why i didnt just take them…the big spread scared me off (hate laying big spreads)

Unlucky mate, sometimes the stats do lie. Didn’t post -9 as a bet as wasn’t that confident on it. I thought that too at one point, if I bet the opposite of what I think will win I should make money!!

Hunter, any thoughts on the Panathinaikos v PAOK game? I’m kinda swaying towards PAOK +15.5 after their impressive win over Saratov last game. Panathinaikos have been pretty awesome this season though defeating Barcelona a few games ago so its a tough one to call.

    • Profile photo of hunter
      hunter 12 months ago

Just looking at this just now mate. I understand your reasoning but it’s difficult to take Eurocup into consideration when betting on league games. From the last 4 from 5 H2H Panathinaikos have won by more than 13.5. I’m edging towards Panathinaikos covering this @ 10/13. It’s a tough card in Europe today and I wouldn’t have touched this game normally. Don’t have much time today but will try and have a closer look before the 15:30GMT tip-off.

NFL fan cheers bud. Was strange one really that Chiefs game. I wrote down 11 alternate team points totals and Kansas were one of them to get 23 or more, but because of the rain I decided to just take the alternate spread. Was lucky too as they were high on the list. Only three teams who failed were the Chiefs, Bucs and Broncos.

    Euro Basketball Fourfold

Small card with difficult match ups today, think I’ve changed my mind at least twice on all my selections, but might as well have a bash after yesterday’s success…

    Gdynia (-2.5)
    Darussafaka / Karsiyaka (Under 151.5)
    Strasbourg (Win)
    Kolin / Pardubice (Under 155.5)

Won 5 of 6 last H2H. Was impressed with how they disposed of Gravelines in their last league game. Watched Le Mans on quite a few occasions and they seriously lack discipline in big games. Admittedly, away form is poor and was originally going with Tel Aviv on the spread. Poor card today and just went with my gutt more than anything.

MNF sees two sides still in sight of a payoff run, but a loss for either side could put a thorn their attempts to do so with one team seeing their record slip to 5-8 when its all said and done. Their is a case for all props to land tonight with both sides hopeless on the defensive end. Last week Lamar Miller had 20 carries on the ground for 113 yards against a fairly good run stuffing defense in Baltimore. Tonight he’ll have his moment in primetime against the Giants who aren’t the best at stopping the run but also not the worst. What they will want to do is to keep the ball out of Eli Manning and Odell Beckhams hands, and the best way to do that is to run the football.

    1st thoughts for tonight:

    – Jazz +12.5 : Surely they won’t get blown away at home.
    – Sixers +13.5 : I know the sixers suck but they have to get better at some point and Bulls aren’t exactly the best offensive team so won’t blow the sixers apart.
    – Rockets/Nuggets over 209.5

    What you guys think?

Yup, Jazz are away and all though this spread seems rather large… Spurs have a scary home record. I’d be wary.

Sixers is a better bet imo, Bulls ATS record at home is poor.. 3-9.

I’m tempted by the Sixers bet..

        • Profile photo of shotty
          shotty 12 months ago

Ye Jazz are at Spurs I think they will win by double digits tonight Jazz coming off the back of a really close game last night and Spurs are beasts at home.

I think it’s another tough card tonight some evenly matched games.

Pacers should win at home but I wouldn’t be confident backing against the Raptors at the minute.

I think the Heat are getting a big head start against the hawks

Magic Portland and grizzlies should win but again there not easy games and could go either way.

Just some early thoughts going to see what everyone else thinks and decide later on what to back could be a night for points bets

  17. Profile photo of jackcfc
    jackcfc 12 months ago

I just feel that Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr are going to be the difference here. Giants also tend to hit form at the right time, it’s going to be close but I’m giving the edge to the Giants. Tampa Bay are a better side than the Jackets and the Jackets haven’t picked up a single win using their back up goalie.
    New York Giants -2.5 @ 11/8 – 3 points
    New York Giants – 5.5, Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL) @ 9/2 – 0.5 points.

    • Profile photo of Jordan
      Jordan 12 months ago

Jack you might be right that the Giants do have the edge. But the fact of the matter is neither of these teams play great defence and the Giants have been known at letting games go in the fourth quarter. Should see a few points put up from either side. I had over 40.5 in my bonkers acca yesterday so would expect at least 20 from each side.

Absolutely right Jordan. It’s only my second season following the NFL properly but I’ve had two winners (unposted) out of two since I started betting on it. So thought I’d share my hunch…

My early bets follow the safe format I have been using for the past week or so. It may not get you rich quick, but it certainly keeps the bank ticking along:

    Alternative Total Treble
    Pistons v Clippers o194.5
    Pacers v Raptors o194.5
    Nuggets v Rockets o201.5

    Treble
    Trail Blazers ML
    Spurs -5.5
    Bulls -6.5

I may be tempted a little later depending on how Hunter’s Euro bet goes.

    • Profile photo of shotty
      shotty 12 months ago

Just curious mate what your strike rate is using this method because it sounds solid, choosing 2 or 3 games you think will be high scoring and backing the lowest total makes a lot of sense and I might try it

      • Profile photo of mervin
        mervin 12 months ago

Shotty, I switch between this totals technique and a slightly bigger single if I like the looks of one. Typically I would put 1pt on the treble and 2.5pts on the single.

        07/12/15 – Treble lost at 0.5pts TOTAL = -0.5pts
        08/12/15 – Single won at 1.5pts returning 2.25pts TOTAL = +0.25pts
        09/12/15 – Treble won at 1pt returning 2.85pts TOTAL = +2.1pts
        10/12/15 – Treble lost at 1pt TOTAL =+1.1pts (I stupidly tried unders)
        11/12/15 – Treble lost at 1pt TOTAL =+0.1pts
        11/12/15 – Single won at 3pts returning 4.5pts TOTAL = +1.6pts
        12/12/15 – Treble won at 1pt returning 4.32pts TOTAL = +4.92pts
        13/12/15 – Single won at 3pts returning 4.5pts TOTAL = +6.42pts
        13/12/15 – Doubles and Raptors -4 won at 1pt returning 2.56pts TOTAL = +8.98pts
        13/12/15 – Treble lost at 0.51pts TOTAL = +8.47pts

At a rough count its +8.47pts however there may be a few in there that I missed. Overall its been very profitable if I could stop blowing my winnings on random interest bets.

@shotty not sure how long you’ve been on the site but I did this all the time last year and when the NFL finished, but mostly stuck to the team points totals. You’d be surprised how often they still lose though. All it takes is a team to have an off night. For instance tonight I could take

    Wizards Over 91.5
    Mavericks Over 100.5
    Trail Blazers Over 101.5

Pays just over 7/5 @ William Hill

I’m on the anything tonight NBA wise but that would be my bet.

I’d thought of the team totals idea as Jordan mentioned but when I saw someone post alternative team totals, it seemed like a great idea. That way, you need both teams to be decent or one brilliant in order for them to come in. Maybe I’ve been lucky up to now…only time will tell.

Must have read it wrong somehow about the Jazz being away … anyways, not taking that against the Spurs then. I really think the Sixers can show something tonight.

    – Blazers -3 pts
    – Clippers/Pistons over 202 pts

    – Challenge Bet 1 : Sixers/Bulls over 185.5 pts (10 returns 13)

Looking to tonight’s game I like OBJ’s receiving yards.

PP offering 5/6 on over 103.5 receiving yards.

Looking at the stats he’s smashed it for a fair few weeks now.

I know there’s more to it than stats. Would be interested in more expert opinion though as I’m just starting to learn this game.

  26. Profile photo of primetime

Tannehill over 244.5 passing yards stands out to me tonight.

They are ranked dead last in the league in passing yards allowed, giving up 314.5 yards a game. To put this into perspective, Steelers are ranked 31st in passing defense and they give up 279 yards a game.

Tannehill is by no means a pocket passer that hangs around in the pocket for receivers to get open, however, against a below average pass rush tonight, he will probably have a bit of time to go through his progression. Yes, his last game, a 88 passing yards outing shouldn’t fill anyone with confidence but I do think the Dolphins will come out and have a go at the awful passing defense.

With Landry and Matthews, they have 2 players capable of taking the roof off and stretching the field to set up the underneath plays for Cameron as well as Miller coming out of the backfield.

  27. Profile photo of raoul duke
    raoul duke 12 months ago

Pretty tough card tonight..but here’s what I’m playing:

    New Orleans Pelicans +3 @ 1.90 – 1.3 Points.

And I don’t usually do this, but it’s a difficult night to call.. so put together an ‘alternative’ treble that in theory should sail through:

    Clippers/Pistons Over 197
    Chicago Bulls -5
    Phoenix Suns +12

Pays a bit over evens. 1 point.

Other bets I liked tonight but didn’t play..

    Nets +4
    Pistons +1.5
    Pistons 1st Half +0.5
    Heat +6
    Bulls 1st Half -8.

    Good luck all.

Well a 1.5 point loss on the other thread is covered here:

    3.5 points staked, 9.3 points returned…glad I didn’t curse myself yet

May try and cover NFL and NHL as you guys seem to have NBA nailed down to a tee. Well called on the NFL too Jordan, your tips are always helpful, am I biased or do you believe the Packers can do it this year too? I can’t see the Panthers winning it so it’s Packers or Patriots for me

    • Profile photo of Jordan
      Jordan 12 months ago

I don’t to be honest mate. I don’t think we can beat the Panthers again, and the Cardinals will be another team who will be tough to get past in the playoffs, but we play them anyway before the playoffs even start so it’ll be a good measure. Home advantage will be key and I don’t think we’ll get it. But hey, last time we won the Super Bowl we did as a wildcard team so who knows. Panthers for me at the moment though. Too good in all aspects.

      • Profile photo of jackcfc
        jackcfc 12 months ago

Ah yes the Cardinals…I knew I was missing a team! I don’t know I trust Lacy and Rodgers. I just really can’t see the Panthers winning it personally, I will pick my time but if they make it to the Superbowl I will back against them…just a hunch. I’ll probably look silly in 2 months time!

Like I say you guys seem to have things nailed down over here. But I feel my NHL and NFL tips have been solid in private and I got an 11/8 and 9/2 winner tonight so hopefully I can contribute to you guys!

        • Profile photo of Jordan
          Jordan 12 months ago

Nothing stopping you from posting mate. I pretty much have to hold the fort for the NFL now. A few other lads do post but I haven’t seen the chief since the new site went up and he was the only other guy who takes it seriously. Lee and picksix don’t post as much anymore. I’ve made about 70+ points on the NFL in the past two weeks though so I’m not fussed.

          • Profile photo of jackcfc
            jackcfc 12 months ago

My posts of the NBA are more speculative though. Seem to do well on the NFL and used to play hockey so have always paid attention to the NHL! So I’d rather stick to those.

Used to post on the football thread of the old site but took time out to gather information on other sports etc. So I know all about you, Chief etc. You’ve been banging it out the last couple of weeks pal…
Haven’t followed much because I’ve kept it slow to check I was getting it right but I’m back now and will be posting NHL tips daily and NFL tips when I can! But if I can even half your record I’ll be a happy guy!

Thanks for the Miller tip Jord had 2 points on it.

Ended up going for the OBJ over 103.5 at 5/6 2 points that I mentioned – won

OBJ anytime TD at 4/7 2 points – won

    Manning over 249.5, OBJ over 99.5 + a TD at 5/4 2 points – won

    Giants – 2.5 at 21/20 – 1 point won

OBJ and Landell TD at 10/3 – 1 point Lost

I’ll start posting my thoughts for what they’re worth as I’ve made far far more on NFL the last few weeks than any other sport. Loving it
