MUCH of the focus on Sunday will be on Man Utd v Liverpool – still a huge game between two rivals who have no chance of winning the title.

However, both will fancy taking a potshot at a top-four place with United best place at the moment. Louis van Gaal's have found a way to win games recently – five in a row but four by one goal and some of them pretty ugly successes at that.

But what would Brendan Rodgers give to get the same results after two wins in six and a Champions League exit after failing beat Basel in midweek.

United have netted 10 goals in five games but still have injury problems at the back with Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw and Danny Blind out and Rafael and Phil Jones doubts.

Liverpool though haven't recovered from the loss of Luis Suarez in the summer and that loss has been exaggerated by injury to Daniel Sturridge. Great things were expected of Mario Balotelli but he hasn't produced even though fans will remember a sparkling goal he scored for Man City at Old Trafford a few years back.

I reckon this will be a close contest but have to favour United at a biggest 17-20 with William Hill. There should be goals because United usually concede and both to score pays 8-11 at Ladbrokes.

Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie are both in good scoring form but with confidence high after his double at Southampton I'm siding with the Dutchman to net at 9-2 with the likes of Ladbrokes and William Hill.

Skipper Steven Gerrard to continues to pose Liverpool's biggest threat and after his superb strike against Basel he's worth a look at 21-4 with unibet to net at any time.

Recommended Bets

Man Utd
(17-20, William Hill)

Van Persie to score first
(9-2, Ladbrokes, William Hill)

Gerrard to score
(21-4, unibet)

    My Sunday Bets

United to win and Btts @5/2 skybet price boost
Atletico Madrid to win @ 4/7
Milik anytime scorer @ 4/7 (johnb tip, cheers)
You can probably get better prices on last 2 elsewhere but I took skybets prices because of the boost on Uniteds game for the above treble.
    Pays £86.42 £10 stake.
Liverpool always put in a performance against United, have scored in last 7 prem lg meetings but I fancy the superior United forward line to come out on top.
Atletico are incredible at home winning 6/7 losing none. Both had midweek European games but Atletico have had 2 extra days to prepare for this game.
Johnb, s tip malik has an incredible goal scoring record with 17 from 16 games and scored a brace against Apoel midweek in champs lg.

Liverpool v Manchester United of all fixtures in Barclays Premier League history they’ve been 15 red cards.

Only Everton v Liverpool has had more 20 red cards so it maybe worth a punt

A red card in the match @ 15/8
    Liverpool red card @ 7/2
Man Utd red card @ 11/2
Red Card in First Half @ 9/1
Both teams to have a red card @ 19/1

    All at paddypower

“With the bookies bring Brendon Rodgers into the next Premiership manager to be sacked this could be the game that sees Liverpool playing a more tighter defence with Gerrard sitting in front of back four and leave the running at the dodgy Man Utd defence to the young lads,

I would think Lambert will love the challenge of getting to rumble this Man Utd defence up, They say a team that wins ugly win league’s and that’s what Man Utd are doing at the moment, there winning games with a defence that’s all over the shop and panic when that balls played in their 18yard box,

I watch that Fellaini and think to myself he’s a passenger in that Man Utd team then goes and scores in last home game then back to his worst at Southampton ,

Giggs will be demanding a win as the last game here Liverpool won 0-3 when Gerrard scored two goals before HT and Suarez the third so revenge mission I feel, With home advantage and RVP looking his old self again I see Man Utd win”

No one else keen on Fellaini to score?

  19. Jordan 9 years ago

Obviously I’m a United fan, and yet my ante post bet of the game would be Balotelli Anytime. I’ll pause for the laughs………..
Hurt us in the past against City and it would just be like him to come and score at Old Trafford.

  20. deanotron 9 years ago

Gonna go with over 12 corners in this game! Fancy a lot of attacks and dodgy defending

  21. Jordan 9 years ago

Obviously team news is key but I wouldn’t put it past him. Especially if McNair is playing. The boy looked lost at St Mary’s on Monday and I’m never confident in Johnny Evans defending abilities.

  22. Fordknox 9 years ago

Definitely agree with Jordan in regards to OUR defense……..especially Johnny Evans! But I will be backing Utd for the WIN. Also Like RVP to keep his scoring streak alive to as 1st goals order and anytime; perhaps Rooney anytime too. Utd 2-1/3-1 correct scores. GGMU
