THERE was the small matter of the Euro 2016 draw tonight – small that is if you’re a Scotland fan.
My 159-1 aways fourfold today eased the pain of having to watch events unfold as the other home nations discovered their fate.
There was bound to be a Battle of Britain and this time it’s England v Wales in Group B on June 16. They are joined by Slovakia and Russia and it could have been much tougher.
For example they could have been the Republic of Ireland who are in the Group of Death with Belgium, Sweden and Italy. At least it will be interesting.
Northern Ireland make their finals debut in the esteemed company of Germany as well as Poland and Ukraine.
Hosts France will be happy at facing Albania, Romania and Switzerland in Group A while in Group C it’s Spain, Turkey, Croatia and Czech Republic.
And finally in Group F it’s Portugal, Iceland, Hungary and Austria and Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t have hand-picked a better section.
So what do you think – will Wales and England qualify? Is it the end for the Irish sides?
And as far as the winner goes – do you fancy France, Germany or Spain – or can England get into the mix?
In early prices England are 5-6 with Skybet to win Group A with Russia 10-3, Wales 4-1 and Slovakia 15-2.
On the outrights Germany are marginal 17-5 favourites with 888sport ahead of 16-5 France with Spain 6-1 at sportingbet. Others: Belgium 12-1 (bet365), England 14-1 (Paddy Power), Italy 20-1 (bet365), Portugal 20-1 (sportingbet) and Croatia (33-1, Ladbrokes).
You can get 4-1 with Skybet for England to finish top and Wales second in a Group B Straight Forecast while Roy Hodgson’s England have been priced up at 7-2 by Skybet to make it to the last 16 with a 100 per cent record of three victories.
The Leeds-based firm have also priced up all of England’s group matches along with the rest of the opening games in each section.
England are 10-11 to start with a win over Russia 3-1 and 8-15 to beat Slovakia 5-1 while they are also odds on at 4-5 to get the better of Wales (100-30) in the crunch clash on June 16. The draw can be backed at 12-5.
