NOVEMBER wasn’t one to remember for Johnb who finished 50.59pts down.

He’s still well in profit for the year though and is aiming to make a flying start to December with his double-stake pick.

Johnb’s Thursday Tip

2000 Guineas 2017

BLUE POINT 14-1 racebets

Johnb says: “I have already advised Churchill for next year’s 2000 Guineas & Derby – he has been really impressive this season and my view is he will get even better next year.

“Blue Point on the other hand is harder to call for how he will progress next year. If he trains on then in my view it’s a straight fight between Blue Point & Churchill but in the Derby Churchill is the only horse for me – he gives me the same excitement as Golden Horn did.

“But to answer my question earlier the most impressive horse I have seen this year is BLUE POINT with Churchill and Annie Power a close second and third.”

I had to set up a new account. For some reason the original one ‘The Postman’ had been deleted. I see the usual suspects are still firing in the winners, Alan M, Buss Stop, The Plug, Jimron, Peter, Boz and many others.

Hope to be firing a few of my own now I am back on the hottest forum on the net.

    Evening all,

Today wasn’t a bad day at all for me with Battalion doing the business at 7/2. I’ve got 3 small stake 3 selections lined up for tomorrow.

    12.45 Thurles – Smadynium 9/4

I see no reason why Smadynium can’t follow up his comprehensive win last time out at Fairyhouse. This sound jumper navigated the tight fences smartly that day coming away to win by over 10 lengths (form franked since). Previously trained by Julia Brooke in the UK he was purchased by Shark Hamlin on the cheap but the 8yo could prove to be a shrewd buy. He’s gone up 9lbs for his previous win but if he turns up in a similar state of mind I can’t see what will stop him putting up a bold showing.

    1.05 Leicester – London Prize 13/8

At the prices I would much rather be with London prize tomorrow in the 1.05. This lightly raced 5yo gelding actually starter his career in bumpers under the stewardship of thread favourite John Ferguson. He won his first start by 9 lengths before only managing 2nd under a penalty. He was purchased by Ian Williams shortly after and this season has steadily improved on the flat. In October he landed back to back handicaps in a very impressive manor. He then made his hurdles debut at Down Royal earlier in the month in a decent novice hurdle. He jumped well through and while he did tire he still managed a respectable 3rd. He still remains completely unexposed over hurdles and at around the 13/8 mark I would much rather be with him over Moscato- who will need to improve his jumping markedly.

    2.50 Thurles – Canny Tom 9/2

One of these days everything is going to fall right for Canny Tom and he’s going to get his head in front. He has hit the bar so many times in a short space of time it’s surely only a matter of time. Last time out he finished runner to the well handicapped Catcheragain but the way he travelled into the race you would have had him down as the winner, until he faded in the last half furlong (I would love to see what he traded at in running). He is due to go up 3lbs for that effort in the coming days and it seems clear the red hot Elliot wants to try to get a win under his belt before this takes effect. He is undoubtably talented but it seems his run will have to be timed to perfection. We wouldn’t want any more rain because at the moment the ground looks to be spot on and at around the 9/2 mark I am more than happy to give him another chance. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes off much shorter tomorrow, with punters out to get their money back!

    Thanks and GL to all

Has mentioned yesterday afternoon London prize stands out for me couldn’t have added to or worded any better then yourself I’m just in from work so I’ll have a study now put my tips up in a bit but 13/8 looks decent bol anyways

  13. Profile photo of Johnb
    Johnb 1 year ago

I see a few people mentioning London Prize for Thursday,
I have tipped this horse twice and won both
    11/4 into 11/10
    5/2 into 5/4
I will say he doesn’t look a natural hurdler but that may get better, he was rated 75 on the flat whereas Moscato was rated 95
There was a big difference in class between these two horses on the flat so London Prize does have a lot to do, there are more than just the two horses in this but at 13/8 it’s poor value for a horse that should be about 3/1
I am not saying London Prize won’t win but he is poor value

    • Profile photo of gengar
      gengar 1 year ago

nah thats a fair comment JB right thing to do so people can make an informed choice. Gotta say though i do fancy chancing the improvement. but im not even close to being as knowledgeable has you or some others here so i may well of made an unwise choice bol for chic theartre today though.

What price would you have moscato at then?

      • Profile photo of

My opinion on this matter is, that we have seen many time before that flat rates do not always transfer to the jumps. I have seen horses as low as 40 turn into decent jumpers and horses as high as upper 90s fail to impress.

Based on Jumping alone moscato has been very poor in his first two starts over hurdles. Now that’s not to say he won’t improve for those two runs but at the prices last night he was way too short.

London prize however is open to far more improvement and jumped better on his first outing. I still think 13/8 was good value last night.

The market now has London prize at no bettter than 5/4.

But it is an opinions game and it will be fascinating to see what happens.

        GL all

Most places go 1/1 with 365 going 10/11 now.

      • Profile photo of Johnb
        Johnb 1 year ago

It’s more of a race I wouldn’t have bet on but I thought the handicapper was quite lenient giving Moscato a rating of 125 as I quite liked his last run behind Ballyhill, Moscato was a tired horse with 2m 5f too far for him this early,
The race London Prize was in I thought he looked like he didn’t like it and you have to remember the winner Bel Ami De Sivola was given a rating of 123 which is 2lb below Moscato,

I did say that I am not saying London Prize can’t win because he can win but he is very poor value, he is a horse I have been able to read pretty well so far but I couldn’t have him today at 13/8
But I hope he wins and he does at least have the advantage with the ground as he will prefer it more than Moscato

        • Profile photo of Johnb
          Johnb 1 year ago

          Sorry the question you asked,
I would have had Moscato at 2/1, London Prize at 3/1 and that is because I just don’t see it as a two horse race, Newera at about 6/1 but the biggest discrepancy has to be SUNDAY ROYAL at 20/1
I had the horse as 3rd favourite at 4/1
20/1 is massive for that horse

  14. Profile photo of gengar
    gengar 1 year ago

1:05 London Prize 13/8 NAP though JB is right Moscato is a different class on flat jumping was poor think London Prize has better scope for improvement but might be best to bet w/o fav in morning if there’s a drift in price just one of them horses i really like.

12:40 Aliandy NB 3/1 looked good on return LTO been backed in from 5’s runner up in last race won next time out despite a 4lb rise so form looks good.

14:35 Clemency 7/2 interesting bet seems overpriced hampered LTO should be primed now jockey claim of 5lb always helps.

15:40 Bobble Boru 5/2 ground to suit 5lb claim expected to try make all with riders claim only 1lb worse off then LTO win

2:15 Awesome Rosie 3/1 ground shouldn’t be issue has a win at CD and a close second nothing else in race stands out for me although on demand is potentially stripped fitter then rivals here but is getting higher in weights.

bets are going to be trixie totaling 4pts on
    12:40 Aliandy NB 3/1
    15:40 Bobble Boru 5/2
    2:15 Awesome Rosie 3/1
