WITH the dust now settled another outstanding Cheltenham Festival I thought I’d look back on one of the most exciting weeks in the betting calendar to review our tipsters, competitions and how punter fared versus the bookies.
Firstly, let’s show a bit of sympathy with the bookies (not!). They claim it was the worst Festival ever and it’s easy to see why; only three horses – Min, Un De Sceaux and Yanworth – were beaten at shorter than 2/1 and they all went down to the second favourite. It wasn’t until the last race of the meeting that a winner was returned at odds higher than 16/1.
Ladbrokes partnered with us on the site and they paid out £300k on Tuesday alone when favourites Un De Seaux and Josies Orders finished second and 14,000 online Ladbrokes customers received over £100k in free bets when Djakadam finished second in the Gold Cup.
The High Street firm provided us with free bets for our daily tipster competition and the winners of all the free bets were as follows;

Alongside our own @johnb we welcomed @voiceofvalue back to the site for his in-depth coverage of the Festival. He’d already provided us with some early pointers in his antepost previews, which ended up exactly break-even on advised stakes. Across the week he provided five big-priced winners of which there weren’t many to be found, including Diego Du Charmil (13/2), Cause of Causes (11/2) and Sprinter Sacre (5/1). He also tipped six placed horses at big each way prices including Bridgets Pet (33/1), Morning Assembly (14/1), Flying Angel (14/1), Bloody Mary (10/1) and Rock the World (9/1) to finish up in profit for the week, up +1.2 points. Look forward to him contributing more to the site in the coming weeks and months.
@johnb continued his brilliant March form during the Festival, getting the week off to cracking start with a placepot win. He’d tipped Ryanair World Hurdle winner Thistlecrack at a massive antepost price of 20/1 on the site before it won at even money and weighed in with the likes of Yorkhill, Sprinter Sacre and Vroum Vroum Mag all winning but highlight of the week was Mall Dini who obliged at 16/1.
