WELCOME to the new league season and let’s hope for a profitable one. Punters will be champing at the bit to put on anteposts today and get stuck into the weekend coupons – but I’d advise caution.
The first day of the season is the toughest to make a profit because there is little or no form to go on and loads of teams have new squads, new managers etc.
Exactly a year ago I landed some good winners but you need luck on your side to profit this weekend. If you have a betting bank place your minimum stakes.
I’ll be doing mainly trebles this season rather than bigger accumulators and when I get into the swing of it there will be top trebles, both to score trebles and Euro trebles among others. Draws will be introduced at some stage and I may also put up match result and btts for small stakes.
So let’s look at what I believe will be best bets in Scotland and England.
My Super Single today is Brentford who are celebrating their first match in the second tier for 22 years. The Bees finished second in League One last season and have spent £3million on new players and others on frees.
Griffin Park will be buzzing for the opener against a Charlton side who have brought in Belgian Bob Peeters as their third manager this year.
He has recruited players mainly from his homeland and they could take time to adapt. Back Brentford at 21-20 with Coral to get off to a flier.
My Top Treble has to start with my title tips Derby who are at home to promoted Rotherham. They are 4-7 with most firms.
Add Preston, who lost just twice at Deepdale last season, at home to Notts County and complete the treble with Dunfermline at home to Brechin in Scottish League One. The Pars have bought well and of course started with two cup wins.

Quilmes had an away record of P10 W3 D1 L6 in the Inicial stage finishing 18th before improving slightly to P9 W3 D2 L4 in the Final stage when finishing 14th
Head to head is strongly in Rosario’s favour as they have won 5 of their last 7 meetings including all of the last 3 and have not conceded in their last 5 against Quilmes.

These two sides have had greatly differing starts to the season as Mineros currently sit top with 7 points from their opening 3 games and it’s worth pointing out the two sides they beat currently sit 4th and 6th as they won their other two games.
Dorados sit 12th from 14 having taken only 2 points from their opening 3 games and both of these came at home. They haven’t played anyone currently higher than 8th and lost 4-0 in their last away match to 9th placed Atletico San Luis.

Veracruz vs Monterrey 2:30am
Again these are two sides who’ve had very different starts to the season.
Veracruz sit in 15th out of 18 having taken two points from their opening 3 games but unusually enough these came away from home.
Monterrey are currently in 3rd with 7 points from 3 games which does include one draw at home with 6th placed Santos Laguna
H-2-H also looks good for Monterrey as they’ve won last 3 on the spin although to be fair only two of these matches are recent but with fairly comfortable 3-0 and 4-1 victories (for reference they won the previous meeting 7-2) it looks like they enjoy Veracruz

Any club losing a 20+ goals a season striker will find it hard but when you are battling near the foot of the table you’ll find it harder!Dundee fans will be out in force tomorrow and I can see them starting the season with a win!

Anybody just backing the tips blind without checking the stats etc first should not be betting. This site gives you the chance to read and decide for yourself who is worth following that is the beauty of it.

Spent all week looking at Championship games and one look at League One and one game jumped out at me. Don’t expect those odds of evens to stay there for long.
Leyton Orient were fantastic last season and were unlucky to miss out in the race for promotion. They wont be a one season wonder and I’m backing them to be fighting at the top again this term. With new signings Darius Henderson, Jay Simpson, and Jobi McAnuff the O’s are going to be a dangerous side going forward. Newly promoted Chesterfield haven’t really strengthened and its a tough start for them in League One. A comfortable home win in my eyes.

I think you’ve seen my shortlist, haven’t you? Definitely agree with your Leyton pick, decent price! Great squad, they’ve lost a few players (Jones & Odubajo most important), but also brought in a few very decent players (McAnuff & Henderson). I think they should be able to score 2+ goals, 21/20 @ WilliamHill. Top 6 Finish (longshot) pays 5/4, can’t see past them.
Exeter look in real poor shape going into this fixture to me. They’re still under a transfer embargo and have now lost experienced defender Danny Coles to Forest Green. The average age of their squad is 22, and whilst I admit they could have a few starlets in their side, I couldn’t ignore the inexperience in the side. Ignoring the experience that Danny Butterfield and Matt Oakley bring, there is a glaring hole through the heart of the side. In goal they only have James Hamon and Christy Pym who are both under 20. Their strikers have an average age of about 20.
About the virus: “Liam Sercombe and Scot Bennett missed the 2-0 defeat to Torquay last Saturday due to a bug while David Wheeler, Arron Davies, Matt Oakley and Pat Baldwin were also affected, but all six look set to declare themselves fit.” @ Skysports.
It’s still questionable if all players are 100% fit.

Having looked at the teams then today’s game should be intriguing. With virtually everyone predicting leeds for relegation I just really can’t see that my self. Granted we need a goalscorer but still 3 weeks left to get one. Pearce is expected to be announced as captain which is a major plus. Also byram, murphy have a good pre season behind them. Although New signing bianchi is missing today, he looked very good last week so that’s a blow.

Fleetwood Over 1,5 TG @ 10/11 (WH). Fleetwood, one of the new faces, have done really well last season. As newcomer, I fancy their chances against a weakened Crewe. Crewe hasn’t been able to strengthen their squad, they’ve lost a few important players and weren’t able to replace them. Crewe conceded a lot last season, and I think this season this won’t be different. Fleetwood, with players like Schumacher, Hughers, Sarcevic and new signings Campbell & Dobbie, should be able to at least score 2 goals. I’m also on the HW @ EVS

Two of the bigger fish in League One, both of these sides had forgettable 2013/14 campaigns. Bradford ended the season in 11th place, closer to the dropzone than the playoffs in terms of points, whilst Coventry’s 10 point deduction and poor end of season form saw them end up in 18th (they’d have finished 9th with the extra 10 points). Coventry have lost key players in Franck Moussa and Callum Wilson over the summer, but they appear to have replaced them with quality, with Marcus Tudgay, Danny Pugh, Reda Johnson and Josh McQuoid all bringing higher-level experience. Whilst Coventry won just 3 of their final 18 league games last season, they’ll be expected to improve this time round, even if off the pitch problems continue to undermine them. The main feature of Coventry City’s season was the number of goals scored in their games. Their away games averaged 3.09 goals per game, with both teams scoring in 70% of their away games. With both teams scoring in 57% of Bradford’s home league games, I’m happy to back BTTS here.

Ryan, I’d be surprised if Queen’s finished bottom. The guys they signed from us are good players including Ross McPherson who was our top scorer the last two seasons and netted on his debut against Berwick. Off to Maryhill-Clydebank today for the first cup clash and looking forward to seeing the new boys in action.
Had a look at some of the games outside of the main English and Scottish leagues, spotted a few bets I like.
Aldershot v Altrincham Over 2.5 Goals (17/20) – 17 of Aldershot’s 23 home games last season went over 2.5 goals. Nothing to say that will continue into this season though but worth a shot.
Cercle Brugge (6/5) – Cercle Brugge have won every time this fixture has been played at home, although only two of those games are recent. Oostende were terrible away from home last season losing 9 of their 15 games and scoring only 9 goals.
Glenavon v Crusaders over 3.5 Goals (6/4) – This fixture normally produces goals. 6 of the last 8 have gone Over 3.5, 6 out of 7 if you exclude cup games, with the fixtures last season producing 3,4,4 and 4 goals.

Valerenga v Sarpsborg
This was the first game that caught my eye, and I expect goals. Valerenga just came off a 5-5 thriller against Viking, while Sarpsborg have scored and conceded 7 goals in their last 3 games, and have conceded 22 goals away from home in 9 games. Valerenga have scored 3 goals in 5 of their 8 home matches, with the other games finishing 2-2, 2-2 and 1-1. This fixture last season finished 5-3 to Valerenga.
The Player I want to be on to score is Kjartansson. He has 18 goals in 18 games so far, and scored a hat-trick in that 5-5 draw. He’s a little short at 11/14 anytime, although still backable, but Unibet have a standout price of 11/2 for him to score 2 or more.

Home win & BTTS @ 12/5 (Ladbrokes)
These two could easily have been starting the 2014/15 campaign two leagues apart, but this fixture just goes to show the fine margins in football. Back at Wembley Stadium in May, Derby, playing with an extra man and mounting the pressure, looked sure to see off QPR and make it to the Premier League, only for a poor Richard Keogh clearance to gift Bobby Zamora and QPR the win. The following day, Rotherham found themselves 2-0 down at half-time in the League One Playoff Final against Leyton Orient, before miraculously recovering to win a penalty shoot-out and secure promotion to the Championship. Despite their heartache, Derby have invested well over the summer and are understandably the favourites for this game, and whilst I agree with that assertion, I think the better value is in a home win and both teams to score. After Steve McClaren took over Derby last September, the Rams won an incredible 15 of their 19 Championship games at Pride Park, highlighting their strength on home soil, although it’s worth noting they conceded a goal in 9 of those 15 wins, a good omen for the BTTS bet.
Rotherham have enjoyed back-to-back promotions under Steve Evans to get to this level, and they’ll also be pleased with their business over the summer, holding on to a number of key players whilst also adding some astute signings. Rotherham’s never-say-die attitude last season was typified in their Playoff victory, but another hallmark of the Millers’ campaign was an ability to score goals; only Man City, Liverpool and Wolves scored more league goals than Rotherham in the top 4 leagues last season. Rotherham failed to find the net in just 4 of their 23 away league games, and whilst playing in a higher division means they’re likely to lose more than the 5 they lost on the road last season, their attacking mindset should still lead to plenty of high-scoring games.

The belief amongst bury fans is this squad should be a very hard outfit to beat this season. Bit put off btts to be honest. Bury now have a good keeper and also made their last seasons leftback loanee permanent and ethutu is a welcomed addition in the middle of the park.
Comparing bury and cheltenham its seems the shakers have managed to sign all the players they wanted and got shot of all blackwells poor free transfers he took on board just to get the numbers up. I believe they had 36 first squad players wheb flitcroft took over and with that comes a ridiculous wage cost for a league 2 club. Things are very well in the balance. Looking at cheltenham the manager has said they havnt been able tp get players they wanted but have signed 8 new players. Think these are going to take a little time to gel and bury already seem to be playing well in friendlies recently. Albeit some of the transfers theyve signed were loanees at the end of last season and they really made a difference.

I’ve stated it a few times on here, Mr F has mentioned them and it may be stating the obvious to some people but as a lifelong Dunfermline fan and season ticket holder I can tell you this is you’re last chance to buy some money! Dunfermline have had a complete ‘re-build over the last 2 seasons and everyone around the club and all the fans fully expect the league to be wrapped up around March time giving us a nice enjoyable end to the season. Afternoon Guys, with so many matches to choose from I decided just one Super single and two goal scorers which I will do as singles and a double.
Leyton Orient are my Super single at evens at William Hill. The big spending O’s face League 2 champions Chesterfield. Their is big expectations in the East end and it will be a surprise if Orient don’t get off to a flyer today.
In the goal scorer market, there are plenty to chose from but I want to be with Bury’s Ryan Lowe and Craig Westcarr of Portsmouth. Westcarr has been brought in to fire the goals for pompey’s promotion push and having scored 14 goals in League 1, he should be helping himself to plenty in a lower league. He is 11/5 Boyles.
Ryan Lowe scored 19 for Tranmere last year in a struggling side, he as moved to title contenders Bury where in his last spell he netted 52 in 97 games. He could mark his second home debut with a goal. He is 31/20 Betvictor. The double pays just over 6/1 at Betvictor so will probably be around 9/2 with other bookmakers.

Got a six game btts on with Bet 365 at about 50/1 with 6 of the twelve teams having scored in first 30 mins yet cash out is only double stake – no intention of cashing it in but surprised how low it is.
You won’t see a lower scoring 1st half in the bottom two scottish leagues all season, just 4 goals in 10 games is a huge surprise! It’s that bad my mate Alan Campbell has scored for Montrose and he never scores, haha!

Only 4 of Criciuma’s 13 games this season have gone over 2.5 goals (4-9) which is in stark contrast to Cruzeiro’s 9-4 over 2.5 record this season. However Criciuma has played over 2.5 in two of their last 4 and have scored 5 goals in their last 4 including a 3-2 win over Fluminese.
Cruzeiro is the highest scoring team in Serie A. They are 5-2 over 2.5 in their road games so far this season and have not kept an away clean sheet in those 7 games, failing to score online once.
The over 2.5 is 6-3 in Criciuma’s home games against top 6 opponents while Cruzeiro has now played over 2.5 in 7 of their last 10 games away dating back to last season and have scored 2 or more goals in 9 of their last 13 games overall.
Both meetings between these two last season went over the total with Cruzeiro winning here 2-1 and at home 5-3.

These two could easily have been starting the 2014/15 campaign two leagues apart, but this fixture just goes to show the fine margins in football. Back at Wembley Stadium in May, Derby, playing with an extra man and mounting the pressure, looked sure to see off QPR and make it to the Premier League, only for a poor Richard Keogh clearance to gift Bobby Zamora and QPR the win. The following day, Rotherham found themselves 2-0 down at half-time in the League One Playoff Final against Leyton Orient, before miraculously recovering to win a penalty shoot-out and secure promotion to the Championship. Despite their heartache, Derby have invested well over the summer and are understandably the favourites for this game, and whilst I agree with that assertion, I think the better value is in a home win and both teams to score. After Steve McClaren took over Derby last September, the Rams won an incredible 15 of their 19 Championship games at Pride Park, highlighting their strength on home soil, although it’s worth noting they conceded a goal in 9 of those 15 wins, a good omen for the BTTS bet.
Rotherham have enjoyed back-to-back promotions under Steve Evans to get to this level, and they’ll also be pleased with their business over the summer, holding on to a number of key players whilst also adding some astute signings. Rotherham’s never-say-die attitude last season was typified in their Playoff victory, but another hallmark of the Millers’ campaign was an ability to score goals; only Man City, Liverpool and Wolves scored more league goals than Rotherham in the top 4 leagues last season. Rotherham failed to find the net in just 4 of their 23 away league games, and whilst playing in a higher division means they’re likely to lose more than the 5 they lost on the road last season, their attacking mindset should still lead to plenty of high-scoring games.

Btts tomorrow Wolves v Norwich City. Whist I cannot predict a winner of this match I,personally,think both teams will score. Norwich will want to bounce back to the Premiership at the first attempt and will be keen to hit the ground running and have more or less the same squad as last season. So do Wolves who,in front of a packed Molineux, will want to gauge how good they are as regards their first season back in the Championship.
