TUESDAY didn't quite go to plan with more goals than expected in the Champions League qualifiers and not as many as hoped for in Scotland.
Rangers' failure to beat Hibs in normal time beat my bet on them but allowed me an extra 30 minutes to peruse the Racing Post's excellent pre-season football pullout so no complaints from me.
It really is a punter's best friend and I have a much clearer idea about my antepost bets now.
And so to Wednesday and Celtic need a miracle at Murrayfield to extend their Champions League run to the final qualifying round.
Betfred go a biggest 9-2 on the Hoops overturning a 4-1 deficit from the first leg against Legia Warsaw but I'd want about 20-1 before being tempted.
Last season Celtic came back from 2-0 down to beat Shakhter Karagandy 3-2 on aggregate but that was at Parkhead and against a weaker team and Legia are 1-5 at Skybet to progress.
Boss Ronny Deila could go gung-ho and possibly score three but the way they defended last week you can't see Celtic keeping clean sheet so they'd have to win 4-1 or 5-1.
Celtic are highly fancied on the night and are no bigger than 1-2 at the likes of McBookie to win. The Scots have to go for it from fairly early on and while I expect them to eat into the deficit the best bet could be over 2.5 goals at boylesports. Both teams to score pays 10-11 at Paddy Power.
Scorelines Hoops wants are 3-0 (11-1, Ladbrokes), 4-1 (25-1, Ladbrokes) or even 5-1 (60-1, Paddy Power). But I expect it to be 2-1 (17-2, Ladbrokes) or 3-1 (12-1, Coral) for the home side.
Picking a first scorer is tough because not even Deila knows his best striker so once again I'll be looking at Kris Commons (4-1, Betfred) or Callum McGregor (8-1, Betfred) with the youngster netting in away ties in Poland and Iceland.
I tipped Virgil van Dijk to score against KR at Murrayfield and the big defender who will pose a threat at set-pieces is 13-2 at Paddy Power to net at anytime.
There are another 10 Champions League clashes and all are more finely balanced than Celtic-Legia. The only side who lead by more than one goal are Sparta Prague who take a 4-2 lead to Malmo. This game should again go over 2.5 goals.
Cypriots Apoel fought back from 2-0 down in Helsinki to draw 2-2 and should finish off the job. They kick off the treble at 8-15 at Betfred.
Add Steaua Bucharest who should see off Kazakhs Aktobe with home advantage after drawing 2-2 away. Complete the treble with Zenit St Petersburg at home to AEL Limassol.
The stats for that first leg were amazing with the Russians losing 1-0 despite having 22 efforts on goals to their opponents' three. Zenit are pretty short at 1-6 with bet365 to win on the night so instead take 1-3 from the likes of bet365 on them to qualify.
It would be remiss of me not to mention Red Bull Salzburg who let us down last week in losing 2-1 at Qarabag after having a man sent off. We all know about the Austrian's firepower and they've netted 13 goals in winning their first three league games.
They should be too good for their Azerbaijan visitors with Betfred and Paddy Power going a biggest 1-8 to win on the night. I've looked at various markets, over 3.5 goals, over 3 Red Bull goals, handicaps, score both halves, etc, etc and the only bet I can see at 1-1 is Red Bull to win both halves so that's the Super Single.

It would only concern me William, if they won comfortably in the first leg and didn’t need to show up or play a full strength team in 2nd leg. (Bit like Sparta and Ludo in their second leg ties last time out)
This isn’t the case here and both will be looking for the victory with no rested players.

I am holidaying on the Isle of Bute and I didn’t fancy my chances but I got up early to increase them. Tried 3 shops with no luck but managed to get a Football & Racing Outlook and was resigning myself to that. While picking up some coupons I asked the cashier if she might know and she pointed me in the direction if a wee place I hadn’t checked and lo and behold there was what may well have been the last one on the island. I quickly grabbed it and went to pay but the wee woman wanted to charge for the Outlook too. When I protested that I had bought it somewhere else she actually went over and counted hers before she would believe me. I must have been looking a bit bedraggled.

Dale, an antepost bet is any bet placed before an event starts. Racing Post is mainly a racing paper but covers all sports at the back. For football fans it’s worth buying at the weekends and looking at in bookies other days. Yesterday there was a free 72-page football preview of the season packed with info.

Non League England and lower Scottish are goldmines Nathan.
Nathan, the prices for btts in Scottish lower leagues is much smaller than in the English leagues, generally 1-2. So bookies know there is more chance of btts coming up but it won’t always happen because while you will have more defensive mistakes the quality of finishing won’t be as good. It’s worth researching any game in any league if you’re keen on btts. Anyway off to the golf so back on later.

Robbie Neilson today revealed Hearts are working on how to play with ten men ahead of Sunday’s trip to face Rangers at Ibrox.
The head coach is determined to prepare for all eventualities amid a hostile atmosphere, including having one of his own players sent off.
Hearts have had someone red-carded in three of their last six visits to Ibrox dating back to January 2010 and Neilson is conscious that away teams can sometimes be harshly treated in Glasgow. He knows emotions will be intense when two of the country’s biggest clubs meet on the opening day of the season.
With that in mind, the Hearts head coach has devised a combat plan in case his team are reduced to ten men, as Hibs were last night in their 2-1 defeat by Rangers in the Petrofac Training Cup. Craig Thomson will referee the match, but that and last night’s events have no bearing on Neilson’s preparations, which began last week before officials were appointed.
Training games have taken place at Riccarton involving ten men versus 11 to work on playing with a disadvantage. Neilson is coaching his team on how to cope in that situation and has given his squad information on how to adapt and what formation to take up should it happen this weekend.
“We’ve been working on ten versus 11 because we know what it’s like when we go there – the atmosphere, with referees, and you never know what’s going to happen,” said Neilson.
“It’s important we work on all these kinds of things and prepare for different scenarios that could happen in a game.
“It will be a big game. The place will be packed to the rafters. This will be one of the most competitive games Rangers have had in the last couple of years, certainly in the league. We must prepare for it properly and cover all the bases for things which could happen. That’s got to be one of them.
“There are different things we can do. We changed the shape during the friendly against St Johnstone on Sunday just to look at some different things and start gearing up for the matches coming up. It’s important the boys are versatile, that they know different formations and what’s expected of them in different scenarios during the game.”

Unlucky Northy mate! I was offered a good cash in after the two goals went in. I decided to hold out for the full whack as it was effectively doubling my pot rather than a modest profit. I stopped my self short of doing that last night as I had worked my self back from £7 to £75 by close of play getting lucky with a couple of late goals. So I opted against cash in even as the clock ticked down. The cash in button can be a useful tool especially when you have decent amount. I don’t tend to use it when my stake has been reduced to say 30% as I would rather gamble in hope at that stage.

There has been a lot of talk about Celtic. No one should have been surprised by the away result in Poland, possibly the capitulation was more of a surprise. The result in Poland doesn’t all of a sudden make Celtic a Scottish 2nd division team, nor does it elevate Legia Warsaw to world beaters.

I think this could be any score tonight. Celtic will go out all guns blazing. Despite the fact I think they’ll score 2 or 3 I don’t think it will be enough to see them through. I simply can’t see Celtic keeping a clean sheet. If I was forced to pick a correct score it would be 2-1 to Celtic. Rangers share issue plan falls short of £10m target, Posted By Chris McLaughlin BBC Sport, Rangers are facing a fresh financial crisis after failing to convince city investors to sign up to a new share issue, BBC Sport has learned. The club issued a document to potential and existing investors with a view to raising up to £10m through an investment plan by the end of August. However, they have so far failed to get the uptake they were looking for. Investors were asked to buy in at around 25p per share – the current price is around 30p a share. It was always the board’s intention to raise more cash through a new share issue but it is understood the lukewarm response is causing concern at boardroom level. As part of his 120-day review published in April, chief executive Graham Wallace said he would look at a new rights issue later in the year “when the climate will be better for us”. It now seems the board may have misjudged the mood in the city regarding Rangers as a business proposition. The club’s finances have been under the spotlight for some time and earlier this year the club secured short-term loans totalling £1.5m from shareholders Sandy Easdale and George Letham. Those loans must be paid back by the end of August but questions are now being asked about the club’s ability to meet that deadline. The situation is reaching a critical stage as fans continue to vote with their feet and their wallets. Supporters remain split over their backing of the board and it is understood less than 20,000 season tickets have been sold, compared to the 38,000 sold last year – figures that are adding further strain on finances. good afternoon, I was listening to the Rangers vs Hibs game online for a short while last night, just to find out what the feel was for the quality of the teams.
After only a matter of minutes into the game, after a Boyd attempt, a commentator was waxing lyrical, possibly moist with excitement, to paraphrase, he proclaimed ‘…It’s not a case of when Rangers score, but more of how many…’
I genuinely don’t think it was Rangers bias, just another example of pundits being unable to analyze a game professionally. Why is that the case? Also are Hibs in free fall or can Stubbs bring some stability?
MonLosBlancos, don’t know who the commentator was but more likely to be bias. Most Scottish commentators support Celtic or Rangers and that’s the way it is. Hibs are not in freefall but Stubbs needs time because they were so bad the second half of last season. Promotion will be tough with Rangers and Hearts but they’ll probably finish third.

Mick, there are clubs doing a lot better than any Scottish sides in Europe that have a lot smaller income mate. For me the Old Firms obsession at being better than each other means they have totally lost focus on what really matters. Rangers and Celtic had one aim every year, to finish above each other. Even though it does Scottish football no good I do not believe there will be one supporter outwith each of these 2 who is not doubled up laughing at what they have become.

Without doubt a panic buy Wednesbury. The concerning thing for Albion is I think the league is sufficiently stronger for having Leicester and QPR in it when compared to last years league. Leicester have a very good young squad who demolished the Championship last year and I think they will adapt to the Premiership. QPR have and will further strengthen and I can see them hitting mid table.
Burnley for me are doomed. I think they’re less equipped this year to when they were up there last time and 8/13 is an investment for them to go down.
I then think it will be between Albion, Hull and Villa for the right to stay in the league next season.

Raal I followed Celtic home and away for the best part of twenty years mate , the final straw came a few years back when mr Lawell would not pay Hibs an extra £250 000 for Steven Fletcher which resulted in losing the league and most likely champions league riches , the man has ruined Celtic Football. Club . Now I go and watch Falkirk with the old man who detests the old firm.

Wednesbury, you make an excellent point mate but my only worry is Rangers do not get any points deduction and also the possibility of a short term cash injection to tide them over. I honestly believe we will win the league but a bet without the only side that can stop us, at 10/11, is a fantastic bet if you can wait 9 months for the payout.
Wednesbury, it’s not the standout bet unless Rangers are hit with sanctions and despite their problems they’ll be doing everything possible to get through the season and into the top flight where they need to be.
