IT'S the start of the US Open today – the final Grand Slam of the season – and British No.1 Andy Murray hopes to reclaim the title he won in 2012.

The super Scot is 9-2 for glory at Paddy Power who make him 9-2 to lose in the final, 7-2 to crash out in the semis and 10-3 to suffer quarter-final defeat.

Novak Djokovic is 6-5 title favourite at Skybet and Roger Federer, so impressive in recent weeks as he despatched the world No.1 and Murray in Cincinnati, is 4-1 with bet365.

Federer and Murray are on collision course for a last-four meeting and I fancy the Swiss to reach the final before finding Djokovic a step too far. So the straight forecast of Djokovic, Federer at 4-1 with Skybet holds appeal.

Today's first-round matches include Djokovic against Joao Sousa, fourth seed Kei Nishikori versus Benoit Paire and defending champ Marin Cilic against Guido Pella.

In the opening-day women's singles Britain's Heather Watson looks to win at the US Open for the first time and is 8-13 at Sportingbet against American Lauren Davis (6-4, Paddy Power).

There's also a cricket ODI between England and Australia plus the likes of cyling and baseball among the day's highlights so let's hear your US Open and other sporting tips and good luck with your bets.

Murray crashing out in 1/4 or Semi look good bets

Jordan the safety has gone flying into the wide out to intercept the ball and it was called for unsportsman like conduct, ridiculous call what was he meant to do let him catch it and score the TD. As soon at hit happened all the cameras were on the woman official as if she made the call but it turned out she didn’t.

  4. Jordan 9 years ago

    Haha ffs!

SS: Nishikori and both players to win a set @ 15/8
Acca: Tsonga, Raonic, Fish, Pospisil, Verdasco @ Evens
Acca 2: Dimitriov, Cilic, Lopez, Goffin @ Evens

    WTA SS: Bouchard @ 5/6
WTA Acca: Watson, Venus Williams, Vinci

SS has clear value for me. Nishikori wins so many matches 2-1 or if he wins 2-0 it always seem to be close. It’s never comfortable. He should win but at 1/16 against a decent formed Paire and needing 3 sets, 15/8 is much better value.
Acca is the same stake for me, 2 massive favourites, Fish upset Pospisil and will have home support, Pospisil the better player easily and Verdasco has impressed me.

Too tired for write up’s for the rest. If you don’t trust them, then don’t follow but I feel equally as confident in them. Good luck.

  6. Jack 9 years ago

WTA Acca is @ 23/20. Shows how tired I am!

  7. Picksix 9 years ago

She was a bit of a hottie to be fair mate aswell nice slim blonde, bet she was bricking it though everyone thinking she made the call with her face on the big screen because I thought she did too :)

  8. Picksix 9 years ago

  17. Ad 9 years ago

Jack- I like the look of that as pick of yours. At 15/8 that’s definitely worth taking and I’ll have a little of that myself.

Will be back with acca in moments

    • Jack 9 years ago

Ad, I was expecting about evens so I’ll definitely take it! Not so sure about my Bouchard pick though…maybe best to leave that one alone.

Like the look of your picks too! Good luck.

  22. mlac 9 years ago

@ad ive got simon and troicki last 2 of my 10 fold acca i put down at the weekend, are you just putting value tips or you really think they will both lose?

  23. Ad 9 years ago

Hi Mlac- Those two would certainly be classed as value picks. I see a decent chance of the upset happening and a good chance to get a nice payoff from it. But simon and Troicki are favourites for a reason and I won’t be at all surprised to see both win.

Troicki has been awful lately and I would have been tempted to back against almost anyone he drew here. I don’t know a whole lot about Tiafoe, but he is a talented young American who will be incredibly hungry to make the most of what is a great opportunity to secure a first marquee won of his career. At only 17 he may lack enough match experience to get past Troicki, but on home turf and with Troicki in this form it’s a big chance for the lad.

Young I’ve picked because he has scored a few impressive results in the last fortnight whereas Simon has had a few disappointments. If Young is aggressive and consistent enough he has a chance here, but it does rely on simon having an off day. Id probably say Tiafoe is the likelier upset, so don’t ditch simon on my account. I’ve no real reason to think he won’t take down Young, just a feeling!

  24. mlac 9 years ago

@ad cheers, yeah i was more worried about Troicki, simon isnt exactly mr consistency either, he’s not foggnini tho thankfully.
might have to cover then as no cashout.

two tongue twisters for me today:

    A.Dolgopolov
    F.Krajinovic

    evens.

US Open: Small change four-fold for interest

    – Donskoy to bt Pouille
I prefer Pouille as a player but the Russian is in-form on hard courts.

    – Stephens to bt CoCo V
Coco can ‘belt’ a ball and when she has her eye in she is dangerous (eg. Wimbledon ’15) but I think Stephens with her new coach can get through.

    – Gavilrova to beat Kasatkina
The latter gets in because of Sharapovas withdrawal. She is young, talanted and playing her first Grand Slam match, so I hope that the former can bring what experience she has to win.

    – Groth v Dolgopolov: Over 37.5 games
Big Sam’s big serve usually makes him competitive in at least parts of matches against better players and I’m depending on the mercurial Ukranian having at least one poor set.

A Combined 3.13/1 with bet365 that I didn’t research and as I said is for interest and I’m only going ‘small’.

  26. Ad 9 years ago

james.- I’m sad to see Maria withdraw as there was clearly upset potential there against Gavrilova.

Stephens should have coco but after some very encouraging consistency good tennis she’s had a few wobbly performances v Cibulkova and Ivanovic. Still, coco is coming off a lasting and Sloane steps it up for slams usually so you’ve got To fancy her.

Dolgopolov would probably take Groth down in three if he could produce his best from start to finish, but as you say, he is mercurial and that’s unlikely to happen! I like Groth, though he is obv very limited, but when he plays well he’s a tough nut to crack.

I haven’t seen donskoy play for ages, but his hard court forms good as you say. And also as you say, I like pouille as a player.

All in all, looks to have a decent chance- Good luck mate!

  27. JamesB81 9 years ago

    Cheers Ad !

Very much agree with you about Sharapova.
I was primed ready for her match / in-play from the get-go expecting a rusty Maria shipping points and games at decent odds.

Mainly watching brief this evening to observe form and possibly surf the in-play if I think I see an oppourtunity arise.

    Good Luck all…….

  28. Ad 9 years ago

Some typos and intesting sentences in there- I blame autocorrect.

  29. malkster 9 years ago

Your flying just now Mr F…Jason Day will be world No1..soon..i will need to start following your tips in footy..my picking is rubbish at moment..

  30. O Ado 9 years ago

    I like your hits dazz
    I will add
La Angels over 9.5 to that for 1 unit
    It pays 10:1
    Off to work
    Good luck to everyone

  31. O Ado 9 years ago

    Just because
Jays over 12 runs for the game today
Fun bet if any one follows
I am going to the game tonight
The over is like 35:7 when I go
And the bands (bet 365 ) hit maybe 25 or 27 times
    Good luck

  32. Felix 9 years ago

If you saw Troicki against Fish or Jaziri, I would avoid. He seems pretty broken after that collapse in the Davis cup.

  33. Felix 9 years ago

Does anyone know of Kuznetsova is still injured? Seems to be rumours she’s carrying something

  34. Ad 9 years ago

I was surprised to see her so long in the first round so may well be. Haven’t scouted around for info though yet.

  35. Jack 9 years ago

There’s the break from Paire, hopefully now he can hold it out before Nishikori hits some form and wins the match!

  36. Felix 9 years ago

Saisai Zheng and Brengle both need banning from tennis. Unbelievably bad. This is club tennis at best. Zheng is particularly painful to watch with these non stop moonballs

  37. Jack 9 years ago

Well, I did tell you all it was never comfortable for Nishikori but I didn’t realise he’d lose…

  38. Felix 9 years ago

Benoit has a pretty decent draw too.

  39. Ad 9 years ago

wow. i checked the score when it was 2-1 nishikori and up a break in tiebreak, thought it was a done deal. amazing. still think it was a decent pick, the nishi win and paire to win a set @ 15/8. glad i only put a tenner on though!

im 1/1 so far with cibulkova taking down ivanovic @ 9/4. hopefully the good fortunte continues.

    • Jack 9 years ago

Really annoying Ad but that’s life. One to look to in future.b I almost backed against Jankovic too. Well done though.

Bouchard looks as if she’s gonna bring in the second SS…and I believe my 2 men’s acca’s are in/looking good? correct me if I’m wrong!

  40. Ad 9 years ago

annoyed that i didnt back Dodin to down jankovic though. think shes got massive potential as a confident big hitter, but jankovic’s recent good form fooled me.

  41. Ad 9 years ago

So close to tipping allertova too! Hope CSN pulls through so I can bet against her next round or two

    US OPEN

Roberto Bautista Agut vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert

Herbert is in some really good form here coming into this.. he lost in the final of Winston-Salem on Saturday to Kevin Anderson.. but had a good run. I would expect him to at least win a set (odds around 1.60) against Bautista-Agut. Those feeling really brave can get odds of around (4.0) for the win.. quite unlikely but u never know!

  43. Ad 9 years ago

Odd that koukalova is still 7/1? 4-1 up second set. Had a slight wiff of upset potential beforehand. Intetested to see how it plays out. Keys could go deep but equally could crash out here!
