THE only online bookmaker listing first-scorer prices on all SPFL games are McBookie.com – and Damian Walker is back with his popular first-scorer tips.
It’s a great service they provide and we’ve teamed up with the Scots firm to look at some of the best bets from the Scottish lower leagues.
Also leave your pick of first scorers at the end of this article for a chance to win a £10 free bet with McBookie.com. There were three winning entries last week and after a lucky draw the £10 free bet goes to Alan who tipped Peterhead’s Rory McAllister at 11-2. Email [email protected] with your McBookie username to claim the prize.
You can choose this weekend from the Premiership, Championship, League One and League Two. One correct entry will be picked at random to win the prize. Quote player, team and his odds – and a reason if you like.
McAllister was mentioned by Damian last week but he didn’t pick him for one of his bets. Here is the McBookie.com man with his Saturday selections.
He says: My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw one firm offering 7-1 about Raith winning at Easter Road this weekend.I know Hibs are fancied to push Rangers closest for the title but deary me that price seriously underestimates Raith’s chances to these eyes. Even McBookie’s offer of 11-2 is probably on the generous side.
New Raith boss Ray McKinnon has made a good start to the job in terms of both results and improving the quality of the team. He did some more good business this week with the addition of former Rangers striker Jon Daly who had also been a target of Hibs.
Daly made his debut in midweek as a sub in the League Cup and McBookie make him 9-1 to grab the opening goal (stakes refunded if he comes on after a goal has been scored).
Dropping down into League One and Peterhead have made a stunning start to the season. Aside from losing away at Rangers in the first round of the League Cup they have barely put a foot wrong.
And in the last two weeks the Blue Toon have knocked Championship side Falkirk out of the Challenge Cup and beaten red-hot League One title favourites Dunfermline.
McAllister has been a huge part of that success. He scored all five goals against Falkirk even though the SPFL website stats say there were only four Peterhead shots so it was clearly some effort!
He scored the opener last Saturday which got them underway against the Pars. Peterhead travel to face Airdrie on Saturday, who have made a typically slow start to the season again just like the last two campaigns.
The Diamonds have scored just five goals in six games whereas rampant Peterhead have scored 16 goals from the same number of games so it is a little surprising to see the Airdrie favourites for this game at the time of writing.
I can see Peterhead being heavily backed and McAllister has another great chance to add to his season’s haul with the game’s first goal at 4-1 with McBookie.
In League Two pre-season title favourites Clyde have not made the sort of start to the campaign that a side with their squad would have liked.
Clyde have taken just three points from three games and a 1-0 win over Stirling was been followed by 2-0 defeats to Montrose and Queens Park.
It is too early to start panicking if you backed the Bully Wee for the title but I wouldn’t be rushing to take them at 1-2 for the visit of East Stirling.
The Shire have beaten Annan and East Fife in the league this season and don’t deserve their quote of 5-1 which is way too big on what we have seen so far from both sides. East Stirling hardly have a prolific striker to rely on for a first goal but Max Wright has scored enough to suggest he could be a bit of value at 8-1 with McBookie.”
Daly (Raith) 9-1
McAllister (Peterhead) 4-1
Wright (East Stirling) 8-1
