NOVAK DJOKOVIC will hope lightning doesn't strike twice when he looks to step up his glory bid today against Jiri Vesely at the US Open.

The world No.1 suffered a shock defeat to the Czech world No.49 at the Monte Carlos Masters four months ago in their only previous meeting.

Djokovic, who was far  from his convincing best in his opening win over Jerry Jancwicz this week and needed an injury timeout, is huge favourite at 1-12 with Marathonbet to reach round three and 8-15 at Skybet to progress in straight sets.

Another Vesely success over the Serb pays pays 41-4 at 10bet and the Czech to win a set is 2-1 at Ladbrokes.

The day's other matches include Britain's Kyle Edmund chalked up as 10-29 favourite at bwin to make it past Ernesto Escobedo (5-2, Boylesports) while British women's No.1 Jo Konta is 4-13 at Marathonbet to win her battle with Tsvetana Pironkova (3-1, Sportinget).

Elsewhere there's the likes of Tour of Spain cycling and Major League Baseball worth a flutter so let's hear all your sporting tips and chat.

I know Jordan has already backed this and with some confidence but after the events of the last 12 hours and the marker still at a respectable price I think this is a steal.

NFC North looked a two horse race between Minnesota Vikings & Green Bay Packers. That was until the Vikings lost their star QB for the entire season, most likely they’ll bring in a replacement (Geno Smith, Kap, Sanchez) no thanks, I’ll take AR and the Packers offensive line over Vikings anyday.

    NFL Post Season Bet

NFC North – Green Bay Packers @ 8/13

    • Jordan 8 years ago

@creamz, I’ve come on this morning just to give an exact reasoning of why NFL injuries have major impacts on prices.

As you know I already posted the Packers to win the NF CNorth this season @ 8/11 @ Betfair. Their biggest division competitors were the Minnesota Vikings who’s QB has torn his ACL in practice yesterday and will now miss the season.

Packers to win the NFC North now best @ 8/13 @ Coral. Not a market I would usually back as a single but this is likely free money unless the Packers are hit with any important injuries over the season.

You’ll notice I posted the Ezekiel Elliott Rushing Yards when Tony Romo went down with a back injury and will now miss at least half of the season (nothings changed, sorry Cowboy fans). With the Romo news Elliott’s total has also risen, demanding a big year out the backfield from the Cowboys running backs.

      My NFL Ante-Posts

Green Bay Packers NFC North Winners @ 8/11 @ Betfair – 11 points (now 8/13)

      Ezekiel Elliott (Dallas Cowboys) Over 1110.5 Rushing Yards @ 5/6 @ 365 (now 1196.5 @ 4/5)

I thought Ezekiel Elliott would have had a real shot at rookie of the year even before Romo’s injury, and now that’s looking more likely. He is available @ 6/4 @ Betfair, with a long shot of stand in rookie Dak Prescott who has been good in pre-season but time will tell how he will handle the number one depth chart players. He is a big 9/1 @ Ladbrokes to land the offensive rookie title. Neither are a bet those would be my two picks.

Might have some other Ant-Posts lined up but will post in good time.

@jordan: This shows the perils of following tips on sports you are not 100% familiar with. I have just checked my betslip having backed your Packers tip a couple of months back. I felt sure I had got better odds than this and I now find I have bet on the Packers to win the NFC at 11/2.
Any thoughts?! Have I thrown good money away! (now looking for the actual bet advised….)

    • Jordan 8 years ago

@michaelc, wouldn’t say you’ve thrown it away but that wasn’t the bet I posted. 8/11 is a tad different to 11/2 so even that should have raised a flag. I do think the Packers are one of the teams to win it this year if they stay healthy. Last year was an offensive abomination but we still got to the division championship and very nearly beat the Cardinals when it mattered. They have plenty of good things going for them this season. The most important being they have the easiest schedule on paper. They have Jordy Nelson back, Eddie Lacy is looking slim and should be back to a 1000 yard rushing season, and we’ve signed a big athletic Tight End in Jared Cook, in which Aaron Rodgers hasn’t had since one of his favourite targets Jermichael Finley. Its not the worst bet you could have placed incorrectly.
