IT was another interesting day on the racing thread. There may be a shortage of winners but there’s no lack of entertainment.

I’d encourage everyone to get behind Johnb, accept he may do things a bit differently and let’s see if he can return to the form he showed before.

Johnb’s Monday tips

Warwick 2.30
Free Rein 7-2 William Hill

3.05
Salvado 7-1 BetVictor, Paddy Power

3.40
Ninjago 2-1 NAP William Hill

Cartmel 3.30
Going Concern 5-2 NB William Hill

Meanwhile, I’d encourage contributors such as boz to keep putting up their own selections. It’s not all about Johnb but he’s the one who keeps the thread alive.

By that I mean if there are no Johnb tips there’s nothing to get the post started.

Good luck everyone.

        MAWAQUEET 2-20 CARTMEL (NAP) 9-4
1st race at cartmel today looks like a match between always archie and mawaqueet.
archie is rated 10lb higher but mawaqueet, a former decent staying flat nag with Michael stoute, he seems to have improved in all 3 hurdle races, and archie seems to be getting 2nd itis.
I saw the tip run at bangor in june and he was beaten into 2nd in a poorish race and it looked obvious he wanted further, which he got last time out and duly won that race
mawaqueet 9-4 looks the value, but as this is my 1st pick in the horse thread, please ignore this and spend your dough elsewhere.

    • raaljaca 3 years ago

Tickety, even Mr F will see his comment was completely wrong. We used to open this each day with a few mentions of the decent winners posted by the guys and it was a lot more positive than what we see now, a constant mention of eventually the tide will turn. Johnb gets paid to do this but I will take up Mr F’s offer of taking over from the beginning of September if it still stands and see how we get on for a couple of months and post an appropriate header each day mentioning the various winners.

** Just to add I will donate the monthly fee that Johnb gets at present to a Kids Charity that I support regularly **

raaljaca, firstly the comment I put up wasn’t wrong – it’s a fact. I stand by it but it may have been understood. At the moment the only reason I put up a racing post every day is because Johnb sends tips. It’s the same with the golf and it’s why there aren’t always daily sports threads up. However, I appreciate input from everyone and value the contributions. I’ll need to think more about your challenge and speak to admin and Johnb about it. You know Johnb’s situation and the last thing I want to do is cut off the money we pay him just because he’s on a bad run. I have good runs and bad runs and don’t get sacked for it – I just try to bounce back and work harder when I’m on a bad run but even then results can be unpredictable.

        • raaljaca 3 years ago

Mr F, Johnb is in full time work he mentioned and struggles to make the time. I will take over from 1st September and have a monthly payment sent to me which I will forward to the Kids Hospice along with mu own contribution. I see no reason for this not to happen as it will give positive headlines everyday and allow John to continue to post his selections just like everyone else does. If you can let me know by end of the week I am happy to step in.

Tickety. Lately yourself, Raal, Boz, Swany and more recently the return of De Andre have kept the racing thread alive. I’ve made massive money of johnb in Dec/Jan last year but recently he has hit a bad few months. Once the all weather season gets in full flow johnb will be knocking em left right and centre!

    An apology
Nobody should seek recognition but certain people do

    • ticketyboo 3 years ago

Sorry Johnb I don’t understand what your meaning by ‘Nobody should seek recognition but certain people do’ I am not into any arguments as to the merits of your tips as has been said a million times you either bet his tips or you don’t. As for Mr F to say that you keep the thread alive,I am sure even you could not agree with that.

      • boz 3 years ago

tickety i also have never called anyone on the value of their tips and never will

but should be allowed to ask fair questions without it being called abuse

you get the likes of cooldude who never contributes to the site trying to stir it by calling these fair questions abuse and trying to get people banned

its a tipping site with chat

i believe this site is kept going by mr f but also by
the honest people like youself raal dougie duncan deanrea dc and many more who try to help each other and have a laugh along the way

we dont need cowardly sly comments by some particulary one on here trying stir it.

        good luck all

your a braver man than me raal but seems a good idea ive had profits from many people on here that seem to go unnoticed a mention to these guys would be good for the thread

          • raaljaca 3 years ago

It is just a very simple solution boz and everybody is happy mate. I have the time to do it and I know it will get the thread very very strong again. Johnb can just post his tips as normal as a contributor like us all without any pressure to find winners.

    • raaljaca 3 years ago

I will happily acknowledge all the guys who tip winners John on a daily basis from 1st September if Mr F agrees to allow me to take over the thread, free of charge but a decent donation each month to charity. I know what you receive and I reckon you will be delighted to see the Kids Hospice get that instead as you have your own day job anyway. An excellent gesture from yourself which will be widely appreciated mate 😉

raaljaca, I’ll get back to you on it. If it’s to happen I’d rather do it when we make the site changes kick in and hopefully I can get an exact date for that. Then whoever is doing it can post themselves. Anyway off to the golf – will check in later and speak to admin and Johnb tonight.

If people want recognition so be it? For that they need to put up a winning tip. For boz to leave is a major blow and hopefully he will reconsider. If he chooses not to the thread will go on with the usual suspects no doubt.

  11. Deankil1982 3 years ago

    15:45 Epsom Downs
Last years’ winner Fattsota looks to defend his crown and is the only one in the field proven over course and distance. He beat Wigmore Hill by a neck in his last outing ten days ago, although that race was over twelve furlongs and he has only managed one win in nine attempts over todays distance. Highland Knight arrives with the highest official rating of the seven and has been racing at a higher level than todays’ race, but has only managed to place once in six attempts this year and could benefit from a drop down in class today.
The selection for this race is the forecasted favourite. With a 37.5% career win rate (finishing six out of eight races in the top three) Haafaguinea arrives here after a seven month break, having last been seen over in Meydan in January where he performed admirably, placing in both races attempted. He was last seen in the UK in September 2013 winning the class two Dubai Duty Free Handicap, and should be able to confirm this form despite the absence.

  12. boz 3 years ago

going keep it to the days racing now lets hope we find some winners between us

  13. Deankil1982 3 years ago

    16:35 Newcastle
Maoi Chinn Tire has been in sensational form this season with four wins and two seconds from six starts. He boasts a 66% win rate over todays’ race distance and is sure to run another good race, likely going off as favourite, but carries a 6lb penalty today. Hot Spice has also shown great form this season, posting three wins from five attempts. His last attempt at todays’ distance saw him finish first, over three lengths ahead of the aforementioned Maoi Chinn Tire, and he has gone on to win twice over sixteen furlongs since, beating the re-opposing Hallstatt on his latest start. In a tricky looking handicap he has the proven ability and stamina to continue winning ways today.
Others worthy of a mention include Hallstatt who is proven over todays distance and has two wins from five attempts this season, Underwritten who has finished in the top three in all six of his races this year (winning twice), and Mason Hindmarsh who is the only one with form over course and distance, but is looking for his first win in over a year.

dean do you work for the lancashire evening post just read it exact same words.

  14. Deankil1982 3 years ago

    17:05 Chepstow
Fury is forecast to be favourite in this race but cannot be backed with any confidence having only won once in eleven attempts over todays distance. He last won in May 2012 and although showed signs of improvement on his latest outing, would have to improve again to win today. Jacks Revenge arrives on the back of a promising run when second at Galway two weeks ago, and has a 27% win rate over todays distance. However, like Fury, he hasn’t won for over two years and could find one too good again today. End Of Line is another to consider in this race, a horse who has won one and finished second in three career starts so far. Although only third in his latest start, the winner of that race has since won again.
The selection for this race is Genius Boy, who finished last in his most recent outing when stepped up to Group three level, but had previously won four in a row in handicaps and should prove to be in the mix again at this level. He has an impressive 77% strike rate for finishing in the top three, with five of his nine career starts seeing him finish first past the post.

Well this thread gap certainly kept me entertained throughout certain periods of my holiday! Some people never cease to amaze me!! If only everyone would just be in it together, rather than certain individuals seeking recognition and praise, digging johnb out at every given opportunity and just make unnecessary comments, this site would be so much better. How about all comments made are just positive for a change. There’s no need for such negativity and animosity. Just follow those selections you want to follow, and ignore those you choose not to follow.
Good luck all. Hopefully you all get the week off to a great start

  27. Luke A 3 years ago

Just to add, i too do agree that the write up for this thread each day needs to be more positive. Mentioning winners from previous day like it used to would be a good start. We all know by now that johnb seems to go through periods of form, both bad and good. Unfortunately at the moment, it seems to be a bad run. But it will end, and the sooner the better all round

    • raaljaca 3 years ago

That was how it was Luke if you remember mate and we got 2-300 posts daily. Happy to take over as it also gives Johnb time off as he can concentrate on work without the worries of needing to find the time to post here.

azz the wigan, for those who don’t know through the Mr Fixit column in the Daily Record thousands of pounds are donated to charity every year with Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow and St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie two of the main beneficiaries. This season’s nominated charity is East Park Home in Glasgow and I hope to raise a decent amount for them and from this weekend ex-Celtic player Bobby Petta will be challenging readers in a tipping contest as he attempts to raise money for the Celtic Foundation.

  31. jim burnside 3 years ago

Better still why not have raal n jonb bth putting up naps fr a month and keep a count of winners and winnings to level stakes. Wld b interesting 2 guys that know there stuff.

    • raaljaca 3 years ago

Jim, I wont be tipping every day but will do a write up recognising the guys who are putting up winners, like it was when we began. A very simple solution to all the problems.

  32. weswin 3 years ago

Wow been away from the site for a while and can see the love and harmony has disappeared.
Is it just me or is there an undercurrent of Distrust towards johnb? Why?
I think 30 day challenge raal v johnb winner takes the thread and the losed gets banished. Lol.
Seriously though the competition might just get the winners flowing for both!

    Peace and love people

  33. Luke A 3 years ago

Yeah I remember. I also remember how excited everyone was for johnb to be guide the thread tho, because he was unbelievably exceptional for quite some time, and his knowledge and reading of horses and the races is different to most. Unfortunately johnb has gone off boil in recent months, albeit just about being in profit still. This month however looks on course to be at a loss. Maybe it is a good idea for a change of “tactics” in the way the thread is run, even if just for a temporary period of time. I personally would still like johnb to post selections each day, however keep them as just his selections/advices, then when he really fancies something, announce it as a tip. I see individuals’ selections/advices as different to actual tips. If you get what I mean? Lol. Like your for example Raal, you don’t call your own selections as tips, but when you get info, that in my opinion is then a tip…main thing is, regardless of what happens to this thread, we all try to keep chat as positive as possible. After all, we all have the same aim at the end of the day.

Brilliant on the charity donation Raal to be honest I have stayed clear of backing any horses recently even after looking at the tips on here my thinking was if experts can struggle to find them then I have no chance myself lol I do try to check out the results of everyone’s tips but sometimes not always possible as there are always quite a few

Plus I have said it before on here but no one should be abused or slagged off for a losing tip or feel the need to say sorry if it was so easy we would all be quitting the day job and counting the sports cars in the garage so lets just stick to the good advice and banter

    • raaljaca 3 years ago

Wato, thanks mate. I will happily start from 1st September with a late night write up acknowledging all the winners posted and Mr F can begin the next days thread with that. Johnb can post as little or as often as he likes with tips along with everyone else and not worry about this interfering with his day job and as he is also going to be riding at next years Cheltenham in a charity race he can devote as much time as possible to getting fit for it. Best of all the monthly fee goes to a deserving cause. Simple solution and everyones a winner.

  42. Wato 3 years ago

I’m looking forward to those write ups as it’s always good to hear of winners even if we haven’t backed them ourselves and hopefully johnb still throws in some tips the more expertise the better I think

A write up at top of thread saying whose had winning tips would be useful as we know people can get on a good run so we can see who is doing well and maybe look out for their tips.

    • raaljaca 3 years ago

Gus, wato, thanks guys and the offer is there. Think we can do it from 1st Sept as it only requires a write up from me in the same way Johnb puts up his tips each night. Will wait to hear from Mr F.

Rall I think your suggestion is a top solution to all the sniping that goes on at the moment, and as everyone seems to agree a positive daily heading to the thread would be suitable for everyone.Go ahead mate hope this one does not get deleted.

  49. DeAndre 3 years ago

I think anything that involves charitable donations is obviously a winner, however I don’t want this thread to suffer as a result, as long as all parties are satisfied with the idea and we don’t lose any contributors to the daily bookie bashing!!!

  51. Scuzzle 3 years ago

    4.10 Ripon – Explosive Lady 5/2

Only ran twice, won on debut in some style then 3rd in a fillies group 3 but this was probably on too firm ground where she was boxed in and never got away when ideal and was still not far behind the Hannon filly Osaila which is very well regarded. I’m hoping Explosive lady lives up to her name today.

    2.45 Huntingdon Moyne Nineoseven 11/4

Plenty of decent runs in handicaps and drops into a seller today, a couple of todays opposition have claimers on them but this is still the best horse and weight combo in the race IMO.

Good luck today guys, you would think being a bank holiday with loads of meetings there would be easy winners to be found but it’s not as straightforward as I hoped.

Like all Good democracy’, I’m going to throw my tuppence worth in!

Other than the good work carried out by the regulars, the racing thread has gone stale and has lost it’s mojo over the last 4 months! Any change to freshen it up should be welcomed and the fact that Raal has offered to do it for free speaks volumes of what the thread should be about! Not not mention the great PR for Mr F and the site! ( look at some of the winners Raa has posted)

I can understand why Mr F would be hesitant about taking away income from someone just because they have had a bad run but a bad run is maybe a couple of weeks, not 3 or 4 months! As said yesterday! People are judged on results and sadly the results have been poor for a long time not to mention the dramatic decrease in traffic / posts to the racing thread! This isn’t a dig at Johnb, his knowledge of horses is unrivalled, unfortunately it’s just not been happening for him!
A break for while isn’t always a bad thing!

  54. Wato 3 years ago

Just out of interest does anyone make a decent profit betting on the horses? For example weekly?

    • ticketyboo 3 years ago

Hya Wato me personally I am severely disabled and housebound so my only pastime is having a study of my daily newspaper and try to select a couple of horses I think might win their race, since the conception of this thread I have been following certain individuals tips because it would be impossible to bet all the tips put up.On the question if I win money from the bookie on a weekly basis I never count the money I win or lose but suffice to say I only bet what I can afford to lose, but I can say there will be no bookie going to the Bahamas on what he gets from me.

      • Centrecircle 3 years ago

Ticketyboo-sorry to here your housebound ect, your tips are fantastic, wish you well

Sorry but am I the only one who thinks that Raaljaca is trying to push john b out of his job and deprive him of his wage by sugar coating it saying he will take the role and give the fee to charity (Which I don’t dispute for one moment that Raalajca will not do as he has shown himself to be a stand-up guy and a man of integrity).

Bottom line is John B has suffered some poor form yes, but I hope Mr.F doesn’t make a knee jerk reaction and makes the correct decision, because if it goes sour for the next candidate then surely there will be calls for their head too, which isn’t the right way of doing things in a democracy

  60. boz 3 years ago

Tickety kept meaning to mention got that black pudding you reccomended absolutley lovely

  61. Bill 3 years ago

Now the democracy door has been opened here is one of my thoughts. The site needs improving. This is widely accepted and confirmed by Mr F. Can we know

1 what are the 2 or 3 main improvements that are agreed?
2 when will they be put in place?

Confirmation of key changes and a timeline are not too much to ask given the survey earlier in the year and a loose confirmation changes would be in place after the world cup.

There are some excellent tipsters on the site and still one of the best sites around. The one thing I find difficult is following tips and suggestions as you would need to monitor all day and most of us do not have that time. A number of sites have the facility to follow tipsters. If a few of the regulars would be willing then comments, tips and suggestions could be followed with ease. I have noticed a few people comment how much they like the site, value the tips/comments people put up but miss the winners. I know I am in that category and continually miss Raal’s big tips.

If anyone views any of the above as criticism then read it again and again until common sense kicks in…..

    • Profile photo of Mr Fixit Author
      Mr Fixit 3 years ago

Bill, the site changes and therefore improvements are as you know are planned. We can’t give an exact date and don’t need to either. We’re not answering to shareholders or subscribers – it’s out of our hands and depends when the IT guys get the work completed. There have been a few delays by us changing the goalposts and also needs tested before it can go live.

    3.45 Epsom HAAFAGUINEA 3/1
also expect a good run from IZTHATRIGHT which someone else mentioned after a good run last time out .

  64. Bill 3 years ago

I started following a few people a few weeks ago. I have only recorded NAPS and I know a lot of winners have been posted other than NAPS; Dougie’s Get Out Of Jail evening tips being only one example and Boz constantly posts winners.

I may not have the stats right so please feel free to correct me and if I have misrepresented then my genuine apologies.

    Tickety 7/16 naps recently
    Dougie 4/16 naps recently
    Boz 3/15 naps recently
    JohnB 3/17 naps recently

Any information on NB stats or other bets would be useful but I don’t know if you track all your bets?

De Andre, Swanny and others; do you keep your NAP stats?

Raal I know you don’t normally NAP but saw one today. Is this something you will continue with?

I will continue to try and record the NAPS and if anyone has a good strike rate I would be grateful if they would get in touch. A lot of good tipping passes by without comment and it would be good to capture winning rates of interest.

    • raaljaca 3 years ago

Bill, horseracing is not really an interest of mine tipping wise but I do get the odd decent priced winner. I put this as a NAP as several of us got on it last night at 7/2 and I really do like its chances.

    • boz 3 years ago

bill i dont mind you keeping record but i am not a pro tipster just follow form and advise so dont keep stats. plus many times people dont put nap or nb next to there selections

also keeping stats like that can encourage people to go for short prices favs as naps all the time creating a competition between tipsters which we dont need

like to think we all work together

      good luck

      happy days

How would it be a fair assessment as some
People post 5,6,7!horses a day and others 1 or 2. It’s not the thread for it I know but would anyone be interested in RUGBY LEAGUE TIPS. I tend to do quite well over the season, admit idly not massive prices on the handicap market but I’ve got 7 from last 8 and 13 from last 15 been if you get evens or 10/11 it’s money earned

  79. Shaky 3 years ago

Am I right in assuming that there’s some sort of coup going on here to oust johnb, just because he’s on a losing run and some people feel like they’re not getting the attention they think they deserve? Getting rid of a rival tipster may seem like a good plan if your goal is to be the ‘top dog’ on this horse forum but is it really in the interests of those of us who are just here to try beat the bookies?

  80. dave 3 years ago

I returned on Saturday from my annual 4 weeks in Barbados and find their is a division amongst the commoners. One would be in support of my old chum Raaljaca taking over the thread, I could get my cleaner to make up some rosette. Raaljaca for change!!!!

I have promised to lead you to the promised land. You shall dine on Steak bourguignon and sip Goût de Diamants…… Just not today. I have lots of paper work to get through, the financial times to read, and my tennis court was finished whilst one was on vacation, and young Herbert HendersonIII is popping on by for a game. Tidy oh commoners.

  81. Napper valley 3 years ago

Agree Bill. Maybe this us the watershed moment the thread needed. Been on it since late 2013 when you you were lucky to get more than 15/20 posts then it swelled when jb had his golden run and hopefully it’ll settle again after this. Most know where the consistent tippers are but I do think a follow tab or stat bar would be good for all. Instead of highlighting hit rate though it should be ROI so it gets round people just going for small priced winners to get a good hit rate.

    Anyway GL

  82. GAZ B 3 years ago

Haha, I bet with my head bit with my heart so I very well May go with wolves, like you say all
Depends on hcap, sometimes some games stick out that the bookies are been generous, for example London worst team in league however they have covered hcap I think 8/9 out of last ten cos the bookies tend to give 26-36 point start, and like Leeds last week (resting players)
other teams Go 20 up and sit back sometimes the worse teams are worth eating because in effect your bet is in from minute one, it’s just how much they can restrict The score to

Napper Valley like the idea of level stakes return, strike rate etc and I would assume relatively easy to set up. Hope it happens soon as the site has the most important element of good weLl informed tipsters and just needs a bit more structure without losing the comments and chat.

  88. Ramey 3 years ago

Johnb seems a victim of his own success to a degree. Naps challange seems pointless as boz stated. We dont need even money tips everyday by every tipster…theres a nice feeling when somebody pops up a 10/1 etc and everybody gets onit. Should stay that way imo

Well John B , I hope your luck changes soon , these things happen to tipsters and need to take good with the bad all I can say when John B nap / nb loses there’s a big write up by others saying how bad he is and the mention that he has another job is ludicrous no one can say he dosent put enough time into his write up and i am sure MR F is happy with the time John B puts into his studying of form

i see Raj wants to take over but offer no nap just a write up with no selections if this is the case John B could do the same , I believe we should stick with John B no disrespect to others who want to take over , he is on a bad run pure and simple , never like a man to be head hunted out of a job he may rely on his income , good luck john b

Just back in and read your response and not surprised by the usual defensiveness. It is not a matter of ‘stakeholders’ or ‘need to’ and not sure where you think this is a valid response. It is called, good communication and working with the site users and not displaying a ‘like it or lump it’ attitude. Anyway, not one for banging my head against a brick wall and will keep my thoughts to myself from now on until there is confidence we can have an adult dialogue.

Peace and love to all on the site…..

    Old Fashion (NAP)

This is a horse where we have to try & work out how much Old Fashion will improve
Shirocco fillies do improve well at 2yo & also Ed Dunlop usually can improve a 2yo from its 3rd run to its 6th run by about 8 lengths
But Ed Dunlop has had an strange season where he has never really had a good spell but Old Fashion does seem to be improving at the required rate
Now i know people on here dont think you can judge improvement in a horse but you can get a rough idea & i am looking at another 3 to 4 lengths improvement for tomorrow which would make this horse hard to beat
Last time out Old Fashion might have won but would in my opinion have been closer if Paul Hanagan had been on
She got the distance well last time & in time she shoud get another 3 furlongs
Old Fashion does have the best form out of these but more importantly she has the scope to improve more than the others & she had to be my Nap

but…but… how do you know these things if you dont read the racing post? surely that’s impossible! seriously though, your write ups are always good and show a great deal of reasoning. I suspect most people that read this site but don’t post often (mr F says it’s 1000s) are really grateful for your contributions. I hope you don’t get put off by a vociferous few who clearly just crave more attention than they feel they get.

This thread has taken some turn. I like many follow it because Johnb is a knowledgable horse man. He was a god for so long and one bad run now and it seems everyday he has to deal with the same people trying to get him to leave.
And all for what so raaljaca who by his own admission isn’t as knowledgeable hores wise will be putting up a daily nap table and write up. Time to grow a pair Mrf and tell Ralljaca who seems to be taking over all threads who’s site this is and get behind Johnb and yourself and stop with all this negativity.
