2000 Guineas 2017

Blue Point 14-1 racebets

Johnb says: “I have already advised Churchill for next year’s 2000 Guineas & Derby – he has been really impressive this season and my view is he will get even better next year.

“Blue Point on the other hand is harder to call for how he will progress next year. If he trains on then in my view it’s a straight fight between Blue Point & Churchill but in the Derby Churchill is the only horse for me – he gives me the same excitement as Golden Horn did.

“But to answer my question earlier the most impressive horse I have seen this year is BLUE POINT with Churchill and Annie Power a close second and third.”

    York 15:05 Librisa Breeze 5/1
    York 15:40 Profitable 6/1

A lot depends on the forecast rain tomorrow. Remember sensible stakes and don’t give it all back. If Nemoralia runs to the standard of her run before last then she will take all the beating. No idea what happened over in France, good ground but did not get going. Librisa has shown great improvement as has Profitable, can’t see either finishing out of the places. If the ground ends up on the softer side of good then I will really fancy Profitable who is dropped back to 5f.

I see money has come for bolt to break the 200m world record tonight. However, betfair are still offering a standout 5/1.
I feel Bolt is going to come extremely close to nailing this, and although 5’s is relatively short for a world record to be broken, all the signs are there for it to be done.
Bolt has admitted he feels in amazing shape and form right now, and said if it wasn’t for the lack of turnaround time between semi and final in 100m, he could’ve possibly broken that record. He’s got 24 hours between semi and final in 200m. He literally has no competition for the gold, so it’s a race against the clock. If he can get out the blocks as well as he did in the semi, and sprint it out to the line, I firmly believe the record is dead and buried. Bolt has said he’s eyeing it up. If that record is to be broken in the coming years, tonight is the night.

200m world record to be broken 5/1.

    Fingers crossed

Too short for me – I read Johnb’s comments about how sprinters slow down as they get older and also Bolt’s about wanting gold and not being too bothered about the record.

Yeah that’s what I heard him say in his interview too. And I have read very similar quotes too.
Mr.F, he has stated he is going for the record. Obviously a completely different thing entirely to achieve it. But when I heard him say that the record is his target, that was good enough for me. Will be a strange race for him though. His only real competitor is the clock. He has got his favourite Lane though, lane 6.
I feel 19 seconds flat is within his capabilities. If he breaks well from the blocks, and sprints to the line then I am happy regardless. I shan’t be happy if he eases up in the final 20-30 and just falls short though

He’s fuming with the time. Rain didn’t help. Would’ve always been nice to have had a slight tail wind rather than head wind too. But no complaints from me. He went for the record, and came up short. Still an absolute phenomenon.
Poor Gemili though. Feel for him. Massive race from Lane 2.

Again I am waking up to Bolt and world record talk.
Rain had nothing to do with it 19.78 was a long way from a record,
I said the other day that 100m runners stop improving at 25yo & 200m runners stop improving at 23yo
Also Bolt broke the records in 2008 & 2009 when he was in his prime

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 4 months ago

For all Usain Bolt has done for the sport and the treble treble would be amazing, I still have him behind Frederick Carlton Lewis or better known as Carl Lewis who along with Jesse Owens have won four golds at one Olympics
Carl Lewis did so much for the sport like Usain Bolt

Then of course you have Jesse Owens, Usain Bolt said after the 100m final that the time between the semi and final wasn’t long enough to recover,
Jesse Owens broke 3 world records and tied another in 45 minutes,
Some clocked him at a world record in the first event but rules stated you were allotted the slowest time which meant he tied the 100 yard sprint at 9.4 seconds, the other judges had him at 9.3 seconds,
He went on to break world records in the long jump, 220 yard and 220 yard hurdles
      All in 45 minutes

If that wasn’t amazing enough, he did it with an injured back,
Jesse fell down the stairs 5 days before and was still in pain when he was warming up and even discussed not competing.

    • Profile photo of humble tipper
      humble tipper 4 months ago

Johnb bolt was .23 off his world record in the 100 metres with and awful start and jogging last 5-8 metres, he said himself he was in great shape and felt he could break the 200m record (not a statement he makes often). To say rain had nothing to do with it is a joke, how many world records you seen broken in wet conditions? go and check the interveiw that bolt gave to jamaican tv not the bbc and i am pretty sure if gatlin can run his fatest times ever in his 30’s the its not as crazy as you making it sound for the greatest ever to break a record at 30. Respect your opinions and tipping but this wasn’t far fetched as you making it out to be

      • Profile photo of Johnb
        Johnb 4 months ago

If you look at my comment the other day I said that Justin Gatlin is one of the exceptions,
Not everyone can be the same, a few can get better but it’s a few, what makes Gatlin even more impressive in my opinion is the US trials they have to do, it’s like doing 2 Olympics in the same year and that’s Carl Lewis’s words not mine,

Going back to the weather, nearly 6/10ths of a second is more than just rain, it’s massive, people look at a race and see a runner slow down and naturally they think he could have got really close to a world record there, but it’s not like that,

Again I will say “why hasn’t Bolt broken the world record in the last 7 years?”

        • Profile photo of Johnb
          Johnb 4 months ago

I also forgot to mention that Justin Gatlin has said himself that his improved form from 28 to 33 is down to his drugs ban, which is a reasonable explanation for his late improvement

      • Profile photo of Johnb
        Johnb 4 months ago

humble tipper, sorry you also mentioned .23 off a world record in the 100 with an awful start,
I said the other day a major factor in not breaking a world record in 100/200 was the one and done rule
Runners especially in 100m can’t afford to take a chance in the Olympics to get a quick start but get disqualified,
Smaller races it doesn’t matter but in the Olympics it’s a major disadvantage

        • Profile photo of humble tipper
          humble tipper 4 months ago

Johnb i agree 6/10th is a mile in sprinting terms but i believe in dry conditions he would have gone a lot faster as for him not breaking the world record in the past 7 years i believe its has a lot with having no one to push him the full 100 or 200, everyone realise this after beijing 8 years ago. Only time he has been pushed is in the 100m final last year and it wasn’t because gatlin was great its because bolt was in the worse condition ever. Its hard running against the clock alone, i firmly believe if he believed he could be beaten he would have ran faster times by now. I won’t clog up your thread anymore, RESPECT.

      • Profile photo of Mr Fixit
        Mr Fixit 4 months ago

It’s strange but everything I heard Bolt say and what the experts were saying that record was never going to be broken last night.
He didn’t run well last night and he keeps saying how his body is suffering.

        • Profile photo of humble tipper
          humble tipper 4 months ago

@mr fixit after the semi final he gave an interview saying he was in great shape and going to have a serious go atbthe world record hence his initial reaction when he crossed the line

          • Profile photo of Mr Fixit
            Mr Fixit 4 months ago

It’s all about opinions really – I got the impression he was saying he didn’t feel he was going to be able to do it.
In a lengthier interview next day he talked about the strain on his body, his injuries, etc and it’s obvious he just wants to get the 3 golds then retire.

John, no need to talk down to anyone. You get plenty wrong yourself mate. Yet I never come on here specifically to tell you that you got something wrong.
Betting is all down to opinions. If we all knew the outcome of events prior to them happening, there would be no bookies.
Bolt fancied himself to challenge the record, and that was good enough for me. £30 lost. To me, that’s minimal loss so I shan’t lose any sleep over it.
    good luck today

One last thing on the matter. You can’t say rain had nothing to do with it. Look at the rest of the fields times too. Only bolt ran sub 20 seconds, when minimum half the field were expected to. Silver was 20.02, yet he ran 19.80 24 hours earlier on a dry track.
anyways, that really is enough from me in regards to anything other than racing on this thread.
good luck all today. have a good weekend

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 4 months ago

He has had 7 years to break his record but can’t,

Every little thing needs to be looked at when studying any sport,
Probably the main disadvantage now in sprinting is the one false start and you are out which means at an Olympics you are going to have to be brave to even contemplate a quick start.

I don’t talk down to anyone but I do say most people don’t study enough

      • Profile photo of luke a
        luke a 4 months ago

Agree the 1 false start and you’re disqualified hinders the chances of world records. I did make it clear yesterday that bolt needed to nail the start, and sprint to the line. His start was relatively good, but like he said after, his body didn’t react how he felt it would in the straight. If he didn’t believe he could have broken the record, I wouldn’t have believed it. But his confidence gave me confidence. It was a small chance I took that didn’t pay off. I just hope the triple triple is completed. The 2/1 I saw last night for Jamaica to break the world record in the relay is a joke. Each passover would need to be perfect, with each runner also running at their peak. I don’t see it personally, but I hope I’m wrong.
sorry again for clogging up the page. I’d seen some Olympics chat on racing thread recently so thought it would be okay. Didn’t expect so many messages about it though.
        good luck all

Peter d it is the rain that makes today intriguing. The races will turn on that I am sure. Putting up one more after much thought, made Big O who many were on at Goodwood fight for his life all the way to the line which was impressive. As I say smaller stakes today and probably best to wait for closer to the off before backing anything if you have not done so already.

      • Profile photo of Johnb
        Johnb 4 months ago

The 4x 100 relay, Jamaica aren’t as good as they were and in a relay I couldn’t back a team at 1/4 even if they had four Usain Bolts,
The Americans are the strongest team in my opinion but they have always been terrible with the baton changes,
China did set a new Asian record which was then bettered by Japan but I think China have more in them.

The 4x 400 relay I can’t have the Americans again especially with the baton changes
Botswana are being overlooked but with three decent 400m runners Karabo Sibanda, Isaac Makwala & Baboloki Thebe they have a great chance of a medal and if the US drop again then you never know,
Botswana are well overpriced at 40/1

Thanks for that, I do like botswanas chances at a 400m medal.

peter d don’t bother having a saver mate. Comparing times between Blue Point’s run in the Richmond Stakes when beaten by a neck the winner clocked 1 minute 11 seconds whereas Mubtasim clocked 1 minute 14 seconds. I couldn’t really see much let up when driven towards the line. The going was the same good/firm for both races. The run before that Blue Point clocked a similar time and the time before a tad slower at 1.13.82 seconds on good ground. Mubtasim clocked 1.12.10 seconds in its first run. Mokarris won’t be far off either. If Blue Point runs then there is only one winner.

    Early sat tip

    Eqtiraan 15/2 – 3.05 sandown nbb

A cracking race where most could win , south seas is likely I think it could improve with better ground , and it’s been great on soft

But at the price I’m having an interest in the selection first mentioned; I liked its debut , rivet helped the form cause , not loving the jockey choice completely , and very competitive hence the -nbb-
