THREE of the four Premier League big guns started with victories – and now it's the turn of Chelsea on Monday night.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City all battled to wins but none of them got it easy and on paper Chelsea have the most straightforward of openers.
Chelsea are of course my tips for the title so I must back them to race to a winning start at Turf Moor. Burnley did well to win automatic promotion last season but have the smallest budget in the top flight and will struggle to live with the top guns.
The away win pays 2-5 with firms such as McBookie and after Hearts brought up Sunday's Super Single at 6-5 I'm on Chelsea minus one at the same price with bet365.
Interestingly Mourinho won titles in his second season with Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid and his side have been cut to 9-5 with Ladbrokes to finish top of the Premier League in his second season in his second spell at Stamford Bridge.
The Portuguese gaffer's signing of Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas compares to Burnley's capture of Steven Reid and Matthew Taylor and sums up the difference between the two camps.
Costa will be hoping to hit the ground running and is 4-1 at McBookie to score first with Fabregas 9-1 at McBookie and Ladbrokes. I'm going to take a chance on Costa to score first but accept it could just as easily be Andre Schurrle, Eden Hazard, Fabregas or Oscar beating him to the punch.
Burnley are without injured striker Sam Vokes and that's another blow as his partnership with Danny Ings (19-2, McBookie to score first) was so important for the Clarets on their way up.
With Filipe Luis and Nemanja Matic two other quality buys and Willian, Oscar and Hazard sitting behind Costa this is a side capable of doing some serious damage while John Terry and Gary Cahill will protect new keeper Thibaut Courtois.
North of the border Rangers take on Clyde in the Challenge Cup and it will be an emotional return to Ibrox for Barry Ferguson.
But it's likely to be a losing one for the Bully Wee boss going by how the Ibrox men strolled through their League One and Two campaigns.
Rangers are no bigger than 2-13 at Ladbrokes so consider minus one at 2-5 with bet365 or even minus two at 21-20 at Betfred.
Kris Boyd is yet to break his duck since returning and this could be his night. Back him to net first when prices are released.
Elsewhere there are plenty of games to look at and I'll research a few before putting up tips. There is a full card in Ireland and a couple of Welsh Cup ties as well as plenty of matches in Scandinavia.
I was one goal short in the Benfica match for my goals treble but called the Bayern Munich game correctly and there are four more German Cup ties including Schalke at Dynamo Dresden.
Third division Dresden have taken 10 points from their first four league games and while Schalke will be without Jefferson Farfan, Fabian Giefer, Jan Kirchhoff, Chinedu Obasi, Leon Goretzka and Atsuto Uchida and Dennis Aogo they could welcome back World Cup trio Benedikt Howedes, Julian Draxler and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
After just avoiding the drop last season Hamburg are expected to field a strong team at Cottbus and could include all of their new signings. Schalke and Hamburg look good on paper and the double at 6-4 at bet365 is one I may consider.
Another game to consider is Jong Twente at home to Helmond although with a Europa League tie on Thursday at Qarabag it's unlikely the reserves will be boosted by an first-teamers -and it will be interesting to see what prices are put up for Barcelona's final friendly of the season against Mexicans Leon at the Nou Camp. I haven't seen any yet.
Luis Suarez will be unveiled to fans and reportedly will play a part in the match along with Lionel Messi for his first pre-season appearance and Neymar who is fit. That's some thought – Suarez, Messi and Neymar in the same – line-up.
Having looked at the games I'm backing up my confidence in Chelsea by putting them to win in my treble and I'm adding Cork minus one at home to Bray in the Irish League. St Pat's have been flagged up a good price at 2-5 to beat Limerick at home and they are but the title's gone for them.
Cork sit four points behind leaders Dundalk, who travel to Sligo, so need a win to stay in touch. Bray have lost their last three away league games 4-1, 5-1 and 5-0 so while Cork are a best 1-4 with various firms I'm on them minus one at 8-11 with bet365.
I'm completing the treble with Rangers -1 at home to Clyde. Rangers have struggled this season but that's been against full-time sides Hibs, Hearts and Falkirk – winning two of them despite playing poorly.
Part-time sides such as Clyde haven't caused them many problems in the past two seasons and they beat Clyde four times in season 2012-2013, conceding just once. Rangers need a lift and good performance and this is a chance to get it.
Clyde, with new boss Ferguson bound to get a great reception on his Ibrox return, will battle hard but if Rangers don't win convincingly they could be in for a long season with or without their financial problems.
As usual any tips, thoughts or teams news is appreciated – and keep an eye on that Barcelona-Leon game which is a possibility for backers of goals.
Site contributor Whitestar has pointed Barcelona won this traditional curtain-raiser 8-0 and that Leon are in the middle of a busy schedule. They'll being paid well to provide Barce with a game in which to parade their new signings and another big score is a possibility.
Over 3.5 goals pays 11-13 at Ladbrokes and over 4.5 goals could even be worth a look at 2-1 with William Hill.
If backing the German Cup games I'd go with a double on Hamburg and Schalke which pays 7-4 at William Hill but I don't want to put up too many bets ahead of a massive week of action.

Does anyone else believe that if Javi Garcia can go to Zenit St Petersburg for 13m then so can I??
The guy is was one of the all time shockers of the premier league imo. No pace, skill, dribbling ability and barely able to pass a ball over a certain distance.
His only positive attribute is his aerial capacity but football still is played with both feet and Garcia clearly can’t use them, so i guess he invented another sport. Villas Boas is a joke, 13m for Javi Garcia is worse than 26m for Soldado.
Zenit aren’t really bothered though. He had a good time in Portuguese football I believe? So therefore AVB is going to be all over it. Zenit’s spending is shown by spending was it 30 or 40 million on Hulk…who is in my opinion ridiculously over-rated. He’s fantastic in the Portuguese and Russian leagues.
I have to say though, all this AVB slating from the media and general people alike is insane. Tottenham have a director of football who has a massive say on transfers, why does AVB get the blame?
Jack, Im slating AVB for his signing of Garcia nothing else. The Tottenham situation between Levy and AVB is well known and I despise Levy as he’s stuck up his own arse. AVB is well able to do a job hence his record with Zenit last season and 3 from 3 this season.

For us 50 million for Torres who had been off form for 6 months, never could pass, and wasn’t great with his weak foot. Relied on pace which went with his injuries and defences that play deeper vs Chelsea.
You guys paying 38 million for Mata, when Rooney, Januzaj and Kagawa all want to play Number 10.

With regards to Chelsea I mentioned this a few days back and I think they are a great shout for the title . But tomorrow night seems to me to have all the hallmarks of the Wigan v Chelsea game from a few seasons ago when it was a late strike from Hernan crespo that won it for Chelsea . I think first game of the season at turf Moor the place will be buzzing and it will be a tight affair. That’s just my opinion I wouldn’t risk the handicap. That said it’s just what I think and I am not a Chelsea fan so they may well go and win 4-0 and this post will look ridiculous come 10pm tomorrow but I am expecting a tight one . Just a quick question – what happens if you place a bet on a market that is clearly a mistake in the pricing?
Does the bookie pay out as a good will gesture anyway, or do they get all arsey saying its a mistake that no longer counts? My counter argument would be I wouldn’t have placed the bet had the price not been that price.
Any experience in these matters from people?
They send you an email saying that the odds were wrong, and then take the money back.

Any decent signings? Reading Mr F’s comments I see Vokes isn’t available which is a big miss but Ings always looked a decent player, will he step up against a strong defensive Chelsea side? Ings isn’t a player to capable of running through Chelsea’s defence so will rely on decent balls played to him but Chelsea will dominate possession and can see Burnley making a couple mistakes.

Its known that iphone users of this forum can’t access the site once approx 530 comments have posted onto a thread. Its incredibly frustrating and there’s obviously a lot of regulars in this situation. I couldnt access the forum after about 8pm last night along with many others. Is there any chance that one of the following ideas could be implemented?
1. Once 500 comments have been posted, could the administrator remove some older ones, eg the first 150?
2. Around 50% of comments are superfluous. Eg “goooool for Rangers!!!”, “cheers Dave”, “well done Trev” etc. Any chance a rule could be installed to stop these general chatting posts?

Big Col, on the mobile version of the site there is a switch at the very bottom labelled of the page labelled “mobile theme” which allows you to change between the desktop site and the mobile version. Once the comments reach the limit where your iPhone freezes just switch the mobile theme off and use the site as you would on a computer :)

Burnley v Chelsea

Burnley surprised everyone to achieve promotion from the Championship last season, and it was their home form that was particularly strong. Their record at Turf Moor read won 15, drawn 2, lost 2, and this impressive record was built on a well-drilled defence that conceded just 14 goals in 23 home games, keeping clean sheets in 11 of those 23 games. Unsurprisingly given that record, 65% of Burnley’s home league games ended with under 2.5 goals.
Obviously Burnley have stepped up a league now and we’ll have to reserve judgement on their goal trends, but Chelsea’s trends also suggest a low-scoring affair. Chelsea kept 18 clean sheets last season, the most in the Premier League, with 8 of those shut-outs coming away from home, the joint-most in the league. Their defence improved as the season went on, and Jose Mourinho’s side conceded just 5 goals in their final 11 away league games. With that defensive record, it’s unsurprising to hear that 63% of Chelsea’s away league games ended with under 2.5 goals.
With those trends, I like the price of just under evens available for under 2.5 goals. I expect Burnley to set themselves up to stifle their opponents, and that should lead to a low-scoring game. If you fancy Chelsea to break Burnley down, it’s worth noting Chelsea won 10 of their 19 away league games last season, winning 6 of those to nil, so if you’re backing Chelsea to win it may be worth backing them to win to nil. Whilst I was tempted by that, I think Burnley could be a tough nut to crack, and I’m opting for under 2.5 goals.
I’d happily hold my hands up and say I got this one wrong if Costa turns on something special tonight :)
Barcelona vs Club Leon (Club Friendly, 7:30PM)
This is stated as a friendly in most places but is actually called the Joan Gamper Trophy named after their former president. It’s a game which is played annually as Barcelona’s last pre-season game and gives a chance for fans to see the final lineup and greet the players before sending them on their way to do battle in La Liga. The likes of Messi will run riot in this game which is taken seriously amongst Barcelona fans who will turn out in their drones for the big game tonight to see their teams final pre-season performance. And a packed Nou Camp should be treated to a fine Barcelona display against an outfit who don’t even compare in class.

In the last 10 home games for Tromso they have conceded in 8 and scored in 9. In those ten games they have score 2 or more 6 times. So there’s a case for over 2.5 or 3.5.
The top goal scorer in his league has 12 goals (Kirkevold) and Tromso and Nest Sotra have a player with 9 goals scored making them joint top 4 goal scorers in the league.
Tromso next top scorer has 8, Nest Sotra have a player scoring 7 and they both have players who have scored 6 goals and 4 goals so far this season. As you can see both teams have players who score goals throughout the team.
In Nest Sotras last ten away games they have scored in 9 of the ten games. BWINS odds seem very generous given the stats and Paddy power pricing it up at 1.67. I’d suggest jumping on the 1.90 ASAP.

Yep that’s true with the iphone. Usually around the 300 comment mark the comments fail to load up. When you attempt to load up the screen goes blank then kicks you off the page. It happens every day on the site. My brother uses the Samsung Galaxy and never has any problems.
I think there are a few options for tonight:

Diego Costa FGS and Chelsea to win @ 9/2- For me this is where the striker graveyard ends for Chelsea. But for those of you who have seen Costa, he will probably be sent off at least twice this season, which is why I’m struggling to back him as top scorer. Not a tip, just my opinion if you’re looking for that, I know many have gone for Fabregas.

Simplest solution might be for the administrator to delete first 150 posts once its gets to 500.
I have the 5s I used to work for t-mobile . I know that if you are using the mobile data then it can cause problems when viewing high level of posts but wi-fi connection is fine for lots of posts. Also make sure you do your apple updates for software that also helps functionality

If you are having issues with your phone/tablet crashing, you should consider downloading a new browser. When I browsed this site through the native twitter browser or google chrome, my iphone 4s always crashed due to memory overload as the number of comments reache a certain level (i think it was 500). Since then, i have used the puffin browser(which i also use for streaming games from wiziwig).
Please dont remove the comments, encouragw people to use abetter. Rowser rather. Skyfire and Puffin are good, if you ask me. Im sure there are other good ones as well.

Some chelsea tips for tonight !
Just a warning about choosing first goal scorers for chelsea. Being a Chelsea fan, it is clear to see we are strong when it comes to set pieces such as corners. With the arial strength of players like Terry and Ivanovic, i would not be surprised for something like that to occur, especially if its a tight game and if burnley defend well.
I think im going to bet on 1-0 or 2-0 coupled score at @ 27/10
And cover 3-0 inplay if it looks like we will score alot.
But tbh looking at last seasons results we never scored more than 4 goals away. And we only scored 4 goals once away at sunderland, which was a 3-4 victory. And i cant see Burnley putting that type of attacking pressure on day 1.
In 4 away games we scored 3 goals.

And in 3 away games we lost 1-0 .
6 out of 19 away games ended with a -1 handicap

Or if you feel there will be more take Chelsea to win 3-0 or 3-1 with ladbrokes @ 5/1 which i think is good odds.
This games hard to predict because the team is so different this year. And i think it might be our strongest so far. We may finally have a solid striker who can fit in the BPL.
Furthermore one reason i hate betting on goal scorers is because of substitutions. I havnt checked the subs list , but i can imagine mourinho changing things around after half time. And i remember many games ending 0-0 at half time with chelsea last season. Didier Drogba , Schurrle etc will surely want to feature ?? So be careful with goalscorer stakes
Tonys Tip’s, Drogba I believe is injured – at the end of the day he can only make three changes in the whole game so it’s nothing to worry about it.

Jordan, everything I’ve read says Barca will be close to full strength. It’s still a friendly though even if there’s a trophy up for grabs so for me best bets are Barca -1 or -2 and over 3.5 goals.

Horsing Around, why would you put your whole bankroll on one bet? I never stake more than 10 per cent on one day and even that’s rare. Also if you’re going to stake that much surely you would check the stats.

Afternoon Guys Burnley v Chelsea
The premier league title favourites enter the fray tonight in what I think could be closer than people think. Turf Moor is a tight little stadium and while I don’t think they will cause a huge upset I am taking them to score.
Chelsea have won their opening PL games 2-0 on last two seasons, but both teams to score is 6/5 Various. I think everyone expects Chelsea to net so in effect it is 6/5 for Burnley to score. Burnley survival wont rest on how they fare against the big clubs, so in effect they have nothing to lose here. They will be a threat at Set pieces and factors like own goal, penalty awarded etc means I will have a small stake on the both teams to score. In the goal scorer market Diego Costa will be very popular, I have seen Hazard and Fabregas mentioned on the site, If Cesc plays an attacking role he could be a good bet, he has scored 2 in 2 against Burnley. For me Oscar seems to have been over looked, the Brazilian scored 11 goals last season and netted in the season opener last season. He isn’t afraid to shoot from distance and it may take something like that to break down a stubborn Burnley defence. He is 3/1 Paddy Power and score/win double pays 7/2.

Monday Night Football kicks off with the favourites for the title visiting the favourites for relegation as Burnley play Chelsea.
Sean Dyche’s men will be looking to make an impact on the Premier League just like they did on the Championship last season securing automatic promotion with 93 points and it will be a massive task for the Lancashire club who are a massive 9/1 to beat the Blues who you will find as short as 4/11 to take all 3 points – something they have achieved in all 5 of their opening fixtures under Mourinho. In fact, Chelsea have not lost their first league game since 1998 and they will be keen to continue this feat after seeing title rivals Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal get off to a winning start at the weekend.
Both teams have spent during the summer with Mourinho splashing out around £80m on Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis compared to Dyche spending just £6m in bringing in several players – Lukas Jutkiewicz, Michael Kightly, Steven Reid, Marvin Sordell and Matt Taylor – who will all be hoping to make their debuts. Only striker Sam Vokes will be missing for the Clarets tonight who is still recovering from a knee injury.
The Chelsea squad is pretty much at full strength with Costa expected to get the nod ahead of Torres and with Courtois in nets, the Blues defence is looking pretty solid with 6 clean sheets managed in their last 10 league games and an average of 0.5 goals conceded per game last season.
Also on a lazy over 3.5 ftg on all 6 Belgian u21 games – this league is generally good for goals and qt over 60/1 it’s worth a very small punt
I’d also keep an eye on the Waasland Beveran game vs Standard Liege. Obviously been only one game this season but Liege were absolutely horsed 10-1 by Club Brugge – Beveran also lost quite heavily but are 4.00 to win at home so no bet yet but worth watching to see in-play stats

I think Burnley could surprise a few people like they did last season – they were 4th favourites to go down. They perhaps haven’t been able to make the signings they would have liked but this may work in their favour as there’s no gelling in period and the team know each other well.
They won’t sit back, they’ll have a go which could play into Chelsea’s hands. They’re very well organised and defend from the front. Losing Vokes was a blow but they have brought in the Juke who was on loan at Bolton and could be the perfect foil for Ings. Ings is a cracking player who will get goals at this level but his all round play is also very good.
Trippier is quality and has the potential to be an england player – he had the second highest number of assists in the championship which is impressive for a full back.
Ross wallace takes a mean free kick and their keeper’s decent.
Chelsea should win but it won’t be easy and it’ll be interesting to see how Costa handles his first taste of the prem at an intimidating turf moor.
I think Burnley will do well in the first half but eventually Chelsea’s class will show through so i may just have a speculative punt on ht/ft Burnley/Chelsea at 23.00 and Chelsea to win and btts at 3.4.
Hope you’re right mate. The worst thing you can do against Chelsea (unless you’re a top top side) is come at us. They may score in that case, but it will help us. I fully believe had Liverpool sat back and let us come at them that day at Anfield they would have won the league.

Tonight they play 2nd division Clyde manged by ex Blue Barry ferguson ( and his clown of a pal Barry “I’ve not got a clue” malcom ). McCoist needs a fgod rangers performance, especially at home so I don’t see him playing a weakened side! It should be near full strength and they should have enough quality to beat the part timers from Broadwood! Currently Dynamo Dresden 1-0 Schalke but with the side Schalke have out, it would be embarrassing not to beat this Dresden side who were so poor last season resulting in their relegation to the third tier.

Burnley surprised everyone to achieve promotion from the Championship last season, and it was their home form that was particularly strong. Their record at Turf Moor read won 15, drawn 2, lost 2, and this impressive record was built on a well-drilled defence that conceded just 14 goals in 23 home games, keeping clean sheets in 11 of those 23 games. Unsurprisingly given that record, 65% of Burnley’s home league games ended with under 2.5 goals.
Obviously Burnley have stepped up a league now and we’ll have to reserve judgement on their goal trends, but Chelsea’s trends also suggest a low-scoring affair. Chelsea kept 18 clean sheets last season, the most in the Premier League, with 8 of those shut-outs coming away from home, the joint-most in the league. Their defence improved as the season went on, and Jose Mourinho’s side conceded just 5 goals in their final 11 away league games. With that defensive record, it’s unsurprising to hear that 63% of Chelsea’s away league games ended with under 2.5 goals.
With those trends, I like the price of just under evens available for under 2.5 goals. I expect Burnley to set themselves up to stifle their opponents, and that should lead to a low-scoring game. If you fancy Chelsea to break Burnley down, it’s worth noting Chelsea won 10 of their 19 away league games last season, winning 6 of those to nil, so if you’re backing Chelsea to win it may be worth backing them to win to nil. Whilst I was tempted by that, I think Burnley could be a tough nut to crack, and I’m opting for under 2.5 goals.
I’d happily hold my hands up and say I got this one wrong if Costa turns on something special tonight :)

The premier league title favourites enter the fray tonight in what I think could be closer than people think. Turf Moor is a tight little stadium and while I don’t think they will cause a huge upset I am taking them to score.
Chelsea have won their opening PL games 2-0 on last two seasons, but both teams to score is 6/5 Various. I think everyone expects Chelsea to net so in effect it is 6/5 for Burnley to score. Burnley survival wont rest on how they fare against the big clubs, so in effect they have nothing to lose here. I was confident because under Mourinho I think we will win the league and Burnley are big favourites to go down. I trust that this is the team after 4 years in the dark that will make us a force for the next 5 years.
Correct though mate, I think Fabregas as he showed tonight is there to pick locks and control the tempo which we haven’d had since…well I don’t know, we tried to get Modric before he joined Madrid. Which is why I can’t see him scoring more than 10 league goals.

My apologies, I should have mentioned this before the game. Mourinho has a tendency, especially in the early games, if we’re up by two to take his foot off the gas and make sure the win is secured. Look at his career in general, or Hull first game of last season, 2-0 up and cruising. 2nd half we did nothing and were very defensive. I did get carried away and think we’d score one more in the 2nd half though :/ profit nonetheless.

This is stated as a friendly in most places but is actually called the Joan Gamper Trophy named after their former president. It’s a game which is played annually as Barcelona’s last pre-season game and gives a chance for fans to see the final lineup and greet the players before sending them on their way to do battle in La Liga. The first competition was in 1966 and since then it’s been played 48 times with Barcelona winning 36 of those games. Last year they hosted Brazilian side Santos and beat them 8-0 but today they host Mexican side Club Leon and I’m expecting a thrashing beyond comparison. Leon played a league game on Friday evening and play again next Sunday, so a trip to Spain to play at the Nou Camp cannot be high on their priority list really when they have league football to attend to. For Barcelona though, they come into this game after their 2nd string absolutely demolished HJK 0-6 in their last warmup game but with this being the unveiling of the new look Barcelona, they are expected to field on a near full strength side tonight. The likes of Messi will run riot in this game which is taken seriously amongst Barcelona fans who will turn out in their drones for the big game tonight to see their teams final pre-season performance. And a packed Nou Camp should be treated to a fine Barcelona display against an outfit who don’t even compare in class.
