FOR the second day running it was one bet and one winner and I've enjoyed a hugely profitable start to the month.
Friday's treble was a team effort with me picking Werder Bremen not to lose and adding Mr Orange's over 2.5 goals at Sparta Rotterdam and Sean Ireland's Cork.
Nothing beats local knowledge so thanks for that. Jordan's bet was also a winner as he took Bremen to score before 69 minutes.
It's not the greatest looking card today so let's not stake too much.
For the Top Treble I'm going all European with Bayern Munich stepping closer to the title with a win against Borussia Dortmund. Add Barcelona at Malaga who have given them trouble in the past but not tonight. And add free-scoring Atalanta at home to Sassuolo.
I put up a Super Single shortlist earlier in the week and Doncaster weren't mentioned as they were a bit below evens. A big Saturday card but surprisingly there’s not much I like. I usually veer away from including early kick-offs on a Saturday, but I’ll be breaking that rule today!
Tottenham are in blistering form and showed that they have character to boot when banging 3 late goals in at Swansea in midweek. They’ve scored 14 in their last 5 in the league, and mixed into that are crushing defeats of Fulham and Millwall in the cup. Eriksen, Alli and the like are in great form, while Harry Kane is expected to return to at least the bench. When you consider Watford’s injury concerns and suspensions (no Prodl, Kaboul or Britos leading Mazzarri to bemoan a ‘lack of a defence’ for their trip). Spurs should win this comfortably, even if it is before they get their lunch.
Juventus host Chievo and I’ll try not to say too much about a clear heavy favourite. Only Porto, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Roma, Lyon and Sevilla have managed to avoid conceding two goals in Turin. All of those sides still conceded one besides Sevilla. Chievo simply aren’t in the class of those sides and their away form has been pretty poor. Crotone put two past them last time out – Juventus should, too.

I don’t think I’ve ever acknowledged it before but I’m actually a Brentford fan. A Brentford fan at university in Cardiff. I’ll be at the game and part of me thinks me being there will put the mockers on it – it should have goals, but I often end up seeing stinking 0-0’s when I watch the Bees in person.
Onto the game itself, Brentford visit Cardiff in cracking form. The sale of Scott Hogan has actually worked wonders, with Sergio Canos returning to the club and picking up where he left off. Lasse Vibe, too, has really stepped up to replace the goals that Hogan was expected to take with him. The front 4 of Vibe, Canos, Jota (who also returned from a questionable loan out in Spain) and Sawyers have been causing real problems to some good sides, while Jozefzoon is another acquisition who has been causing trouble off of the bench.
The fruits of this attack has seen Brentford score 30 in the 13 games since Hogan left (just after the FA Cup defeat by Chelsea). Still, though, their defence has always been suspect and they had been conceding regularly until two solid home wins against Bristol City and Leeds (both 2-0). Brentford have been mostly poor on the road all season, conceding in all of their last 10, but also 36 in 20 away games. The 6 away games since Hogan’s departure have seen a massive 29 goals, all of which saw both teams scoring.
I’ve not really addressed Cardiff but I think they’re more than capable of contributing to a game that ought to see goals. Recent head-to-heads also encourage for those who place trust in that statistic – all five games since Brentford returned to the Championship have seen BTTS and O2.5 Match Goals. So you won’t be surprised to see what I’m on:

My usual lower league options offer a multitude of games but there isn’t anything that stands out value-wise – instead I’m taking on one that will probably attract a few pelters.
MAN CITY VS. HULL CITY:
I watched the pre-Christmas game at a windswept and quite frankly, f*cking freezing KC Stadium as (Hull) City were swept aside in a 0-3 defeat but the dominance only came late on and, from memory, the goals were all scored after about 70 minutes.
This was shortly after the new Tiger’s managerial regime took over and, although hardworking, the then battered Hull side was led by a very lacklustre and (pre-transfer move) Snodgrass et al.
I believe the current Tigers team prowling the Premier League and clawing onto survival is a good step or two above the one I watched in December and although I expect the home side to dominate play, you cannot disguise the fact that they just cannot defend.
Could be goals in this one and I’m taking on the Tigers to make their mark:

Early doors thoughts with Birmingham v Derby, we’re 11/8 with bet365 to win, I’d be surprised given Derby rebirth in form, the Gary Rowett returning to his former employer who sacked him for doing a good job on no budget and the fact Birmingham have been sliding slowly down the table since his departure should see Derby grab the spoils. Ironically they’re 11/8 to score 2 or more with the same bookie, but worth an honourable mention is David Nugent.
