JOHNB had a 3-1 winning Nap on Friday and was also delighted to see Willie Mullins close in on the Irish Trainers Championship.

Mullins was tipped at 5-2 as a double-stake pick by our man and he’s now as short as 1-5. So there’s easy cover there for anyone who chooses that path.

Well done all who posted winners on Friday and let’s hear your Saturday tips and chat.

Johnb’s Saturday Tips

Punchestown 4.25
Bapaume 5-2 NAP bet365

Doncaster 5.25
Darkanna 11-4 NB bet365

Wolverhampton 7.50
Amazing Red 15-8 Ladbrokes

Also 3 x 0.5pt double & 1 x 0.5pt treble bet365 odds 5-2 11-4 7-4

Bapaume (NAP)
There hasn’t been a great deal between Bapaume and Mega Fortune so it could prove crucial for the Trainers Championship. Willie Mullins’ horses have been running well this week although not getting much luck and the favoured Mullins horses have been getting beat by other horses from the yard. In four meetings between these two it’s 2-2 with the latest meeting at Cheltenham seeing just a short head between them, the faster ground and the course should suit Bapaume more and even Gordon Elliott has doubts about the course for Mega Fortune.

Darkanna (NB)
Here we have a filly that has a lot to live up to, she is held in high regard and is bred to be a very smart sprinter and bred to be ready early and with a trainer who can ready a horse. She cost £205,000 as a yearling and is expected to go well and it is telling that Richard Fahey runs her against the colts on debut receiving 5lb. Paul Hanagan and Tony Hamilton are meant to be joint main jockeys for the Fahey yard but Hanagan seems to be getting the plum rides.

Amazing Red
This twice raced colt is rated 90 and open to a lot of improvement he should take a lot of beating in what is a weak race for a horse with his potential, the step up in distance will suit and the surface shouldn’t be a problem.

Special tiara nap 5-1 at sandown.
Altior beat fox Norton by 10+ lengths at Haydock in February.
But this was fox’s first run back after an injury lay off.

Special tiara pipped a fully wound up fox norton in the champion chase and foxy has since won at aintree and punchestown.
Tiara has course form also winning this race in 2015 beating sprinter sacre by 6 lengths.

Its the disparity in the odds that Interests me.
      Altior 1-4
      Special tiara 5-1
Tiara jumps like a stag and will give altior a different sort of challenge than he has had so far
I’m hoping he can run the finish out of altior, especially if this is one race too many for altior.
As the odds suggest its a long shot so won’t be lumping on.

Hi all. Have followed john b and this thread for about 3 years and have got lods of winners. More than picking horses myself. But a couple of months ago I got introduced to distance betting. And have made more profit in 2 months than to be honest in ten years of backing horses. Take today 7/8 races in punchstown the unders came up. All I bet in distance betting is unders. It’s simple if it’s a close finish you win doesn’t matter what horse wins. The price is always 1/1 the distance varys with each race. I’ve never seen anybody on this thread speak about it. Anybody else do these bets?

Not for me personally but we all have our go to bets. Punchestown has been brilliant viewing this week, nearly every race has been a close finish which means quids in for you.

After trailing Gordon Elliott all season Willie Mullins took the lead in the Irish Trainers Championship for the first time at 5:36pm on Friday with only one day to go,
Willie Mullins trailed by €402,405 at the start of the week but now leads by €91,295 and is the 1/6 favourite to win the title

On Saturday Elliott is pinning all his hopes on Apples Jade to keep him in the race but he really needs to win the 3:50 & 4:25 races to have any chance of winning, it’s very possible but the way the Willie Mullins horses are running don’t rule out Mullins winning both those races

Tiger woo, would be seriously interested in finding out a bit more about that. Who do you bet with to get this under option in distances?
Also how long have you been monitoring results, and what type of races etc? Does it make any difference with flat or jumps for example.
Definitely sounds like something worth looking into.
    Cheers,

Hi edgeman. I bet with boylesports. I’ve been advised there the best to do it with. You can also do it with paddy power. Let me try explain. Flat racing 7fl 6fl 5fl are best you want as many runners as possible 10 plus no nailed on fav. No madians no novices. 3 year olds plus. We’ll handicapped races the more prize money the better. Example 6fl race 15 runners 2.1 fav market will be 1/1 under a lenth 7/1 exactly a lenth. And 10/11 over a lenth. Not always this market but prices always the same. Some times the market can be under/over half a lenth never do these! If the market is under/over 1.5 lenths always do them that’s Xmas in distance betting in 7fl 6fl 5fl racing. Under/over .75 lenths is 50/50 but can be good if say 18 runners r more. Jump racing. The market is usually under/over 3 lenths the more competive racing like punchstown will be like under/over 2 lenths have a look at results from punchstown today sporting life I find best for lenths results there quickest. Market will appear only 10 mins befor each race so u have be on the ball.

Two posts on here this week, two wins.
I have a few fancies today which coincide with selections already posted.

4:45 Sandown – Shantou Village – Hopefully jumps well and should go well fresh – 4/1 – 1.5pts
    5:25 Doncaster – Darkanna – A lot is expected of this filly – 10/3 – 1.5pts

Both short priced selections Altior and Neverbackdown will be added in with my football acca.
The 2:25 at Sandown i was going with my heart to back Menorah but listened to my head is ratings is close with Traffic Fluide and giving away 10lbs, i will give this a swerve and watch with interest.

    Afternoon all,

Warthog is proving an expensive horse to follow. He travels so well into his races but lacks a turn of foot. I spoke to a contact last night and he said connections are still confident he will come good in time when he get a longer trip, so it might be too early to give up on him just yet. Thankfully Sovereign Debt managed to keep something in the pot. I do apologise about the amount of selections posted the last few days but with the racing so good more horses have been meeting my criteria/systems. Here’s today’s bets:

    14.05 Haydock – El Vip 13/8 (3 points win)

14.40 Haydock – Oh This Is Us 7/2 (1.5 points win)

15.10 Punchestown – White Arm 5/1 EW (1 point each way)

    15.35 Sandown – Doing Fine 9/2 EW ( 1 points each way – 4 places Skybet)

15.55 Ripon – Sir Chauvelin 7/1 EW (0.75 points each way)

    16.30 Ripon – Fire Fighting 3/1 (1.5 points win)

17.00 Punchestown – Forever Gold 14/1 EW (4 places Ladbrokes) (1 point each way)

17.20 Sandown – Thomas Crapper 6/1 EW (1 point each way)

17.35 Punchestown – Air Horse One 15/2 EW (6 places Skybet) (1 point each way)

    19.35 Doncaster – Invermere 3/1 (7.5 points win @ 3/1)

Very strong on the chances of Invermere today but I am keen to get a cover on a place- will confirm this later on.

    Otherbets:

1 point each way double: El Vip & Invermere @ 9/1

Many thanks and GL to all

All over bar the shouting, I think we can call Willie Mullins the Irish National Hunt Trainer Champion of 2016/17

Gordon Elliott said before Punchestown that he needed a €1m lead to beat Mullins, well he wasn’t far away because Willie Mullins has won about €532,000 more than Elliott at Punchestown

Given jb isnt seen a lot generally in the thread, the multitude of posts he made regarding this topic could be seen as excessive, especially since it barely made a dent into his deficit, but he is free to post what he wants, when he wants, how often he wants.

I am in agreement with you plug but let’s try to be more constructive, if we all lose our egos then we can start being a more proficient, cohesive unit.

He needs to thank the gods for that title but even then he just managed to hang on
If someone throws 100 darts at a board and hits a bullseye it doesn’t make them a darts player

But being serious it’s pretty much embarrassing to run more than double the runners of your rival and still not win the championship

      • Profile photo of billy boy
        billy boy 5 months ago

But Johnb you could say that about Mullins this week at Punchestown plenty races where he had over half the runners.
I don’t like Gigginstown but that doesn’t mean it would have bothered me if Elliot won the title.
