THE only online bookie that lists SPFL and Scottish Cup first-scorer prices for every game are McBookie.
McBookie‘s Damian Walker gives his first-scorer tips every weekend and challenges punters to pick their own.
There was only one correct entry last week and that was Morrison67 – for the second week running – with St Mirren’s Lawrence Shankland at 5-1. Email [email protected] to claim your prize.
Leave your tip as a comment and quote player’s club and first-scorer price with McBookie – Scottish games only – for a chance to win £10 this weekend. Here is Damian with this week’s selections.
He says: Can there be a tougher game than punting when it comes to psychology? You can get so many things right and still lose.
So it was last weekend when I suggested Dunfermline would once again field a weakened side and should not be long odds on. I went for an in-form Stranraer striker in the shape of 8-1 shot Craig Malcolm who scored twice in the 4-1 win – just not the first goal.
Anyway, as ever bookies are slow to react when it comes to Scottish football and the Pars are odds on again this Saturday away to Airdrie.
The Diamonds have an outside chance of making the League One play-offs but must win their last two matches and hope other results go their way, especially Stranraer’s.
McBookie have Airdrie at 7-2 so with home advantage in a must-win game and the chance of playing against a weakened Pars squad that looks too big.
Airdrie striker Jim Lister has seven league goals this season from 15 appearances and scored the winner last weekend in the 2-0 win over Forfar. McBookie make Lister 6-1 to score the first goal.
Moving up a division and there’s a chance Raith and Falkirk could meet again after Saturday’s fixture in the play-offs. This is a far more important game for the Bairns as Raith are booked for fourth spot while Falkirk will want to avoid the third v fourth play-off game by finishing above Hibs.
However, I think the value lies with Raith who are outsiders but have home advantage, are unbeaten in nine matches and won five of their last six and drew with Rangers in the other game.
Raith’s Mark Stewart has scored 11 goals this season but after a barren early-season spell has eight goals from his last 17 games. Stewart is 6-1 with McBookie to score first.
Finally, in League Two there is a great battle for the play-offs with just a single point separating four clubs. With Queen’s Park and Clyde playing each other Elgin in fifth have a great opportunity to improve their chances with an away game with East Stirling.
However, the Black and Whites have gone from title favourites from play-off hopefuls by failing to win any of their last six games and I couldn’t dream of backing them at 2-5.
Added to the fact East Stirling ran out 3-1 winners at Annan last Saturday and Shire look overpriced at a massive 7-1. It’s always best to play safe when tipping a first scorer from a big-priced team so we’ll go for Shire’s leading league scorer David McKenna at 15-2 with McBookie.
Can you find a winner this weekend?
Lister (Airdrie) 6-1
Stewart (Raith) 6-1
McKenna (East Stirling) 15-2)
