Apr 23: Johnb’s Racing Tips & Chat

MRF_RacingTips_Racebets

IT wasn’t to be for Johnb on Friday as he ended the day with a 5pt loss.

He’s now 9.73pts down for April and has an each-way double among his Saturday picks.

Johnb’s Saturday Tips

Haydock 2:10
Lincoln 10-1 NAP racebets

Sandown 2:20
Deebaj 33-1 NB racebets

0.5 point eachway double: Lincoln & Deebaj 373-1 racebets

Lincoln (NAP)
Third in this race last year and after taking into account the jockeys claim Lincoln is running off a 7lb lower mark this year, Paddy Pilley is a decent jockey for his 5lb claim and I think this is one of the races Mick Channon has eyed for a while.
His best run was in the group 3 Criterion Stakes at Newmaket.
I would like to see the horse ridden closer to the pace in this race for a change in tactics though.

Deebaj (NB)
This is a horse I have kept a close eye on since going hurdling, the ex Hamdan Al Maktoum horse was an interesting recruit to the national hunt scene
He was rushed through to get his handicap mark and I thought 121 last time was a good mark but thought the distance would be a bit too far this early and this race looks much more up his street.
He does need to improve on his jumping but it is getting there and it is a winnable race this.

    Sunrise J 10/1 Lim 5.25
This 5 y o mare by Jeremy finished 4 1/2 lengths 4th in her last run over 1m 4f on heavy ground. The mare runs over 1m 3f today, a furlong shorter might just help her, as her last run was just under a year ago.
The ground is predicted to be soft to heavy so this is right up Sunrise J street.
Trained by up and coming Takashi Kodamo, owned by Toshiyuki Shimokobe and ridden by Kieren Fallon, this horse will hopefully be delivered late.

biggee.. that’s the way it goes.
One thing i will say is that Saturdays are generally a nightmare for punters. Aside from my bet on Sunrise J I’ve had a small bet on Johns nap and that’s it.
I normally try to avoid Saturdays like the plague.

      • Profile photo of Johnb
        Johnb 8 months ago

I don’t know where to start with Sunrise j
It should be running better than it is but that can also be said about all Takashi Kodama’s horses
Trainer not had a winner since 2014 and only had 7 winners in 8 years of training
Maybe the Fallon factor can change his luck
There can be a case made for Sunrise j to place but not confident

John, what do make of Midterms victory? He’s been well backed from 16/1 into 6.

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 8 months ago

I think best odds before today’s race was 8/1
I know majority of bookies were going 8/1 and now into 6/1
I thought he looked too unbalanced and I may regret this but I can’t see him getting close in the Derby

Sorry ignore last comment Midterm might have been 16/1 I was thinking about a different horse and a different race, was busy studying for Sunday and monday horses when I answered

Today main bet will be on the football has posted yesterday Liverpool,Southampton,Chelsea win treble 13/2 also having a decent bet on Chelsea most corners 7/4 has tipped buy @duncanpoundcake good spot mate might be the best value bet I’ve seen in a while especially with news Hazard is back.

onto horses as mention above Saturdays not particular good for punters has history goes but like look of a few tomorrow so I’ve been drawn in just fingers crossed it pays off.

LETMESTOPYOUTHERE @ 2:50 Leicester 5/2NAP won very easily LTO over 5f last week winning by 4 lengths.experience counts in these early season juvenile races, stable are hitting form unless we see an amazing run buy one of the newbies 5/2 seems more then generous.

ALBEN STAR@ 3:50 Ripon 10/1 NB should progress from run LTO, open looking race but those factors along with the draw being favorable and with Fahey is in good form defiantly worth a bet IMO.

Will be on Vvm and Sprinter Sacre and Valseur Lido at 4/6 1/1 5/6 respectively all running @ Sandown in a treble. roughly coming to 6/1

Last bet ANTONY @4:45 Sandown 16/1 e/w golden egg.

Best of luck guys and girls.

    7:05 Doncaster – Bedrock
    Joint NAP/NB (Double Stake) 9/2
Mentioned this horse yesterday and turns out it runs tonight. Pretty confident but you never know with racing lol

(Copied from what I said yesterday):
I’m not usually in the know, but my dads friend has a 15G stake in a Haggas horse called bedrock which I’m told is a must bet the next time it runs for one reason or another. I have a notifier telling me when it runs so I’ll put it in the thread again on whichever day it decides to. Obviously no guarantees with racing but they’re waiting for the right time to run him (NR last time because of the ground).

Morning all, hate Saturday’s at the best of times (I call it bingo day).
And today is no different a lot of open races not great for punters.
However I need to keep the form going so small stakes today and looking to make it 4 days in a row with today’s NAP

4:55 Ripon Victory Bond NAP 4/5
made great debut and from top stable holds Dante entry too so should be more to come looks absolute solid in this race

NB Du Motto 3:25 Leicester 5/2

Expecting Mullins to do the business at sanding today but most of his horses look short will be taking a chance on
Voix du reve 2:20 sandown 5/2
Looked like he was going very well when falling last time and stable turn him out fairly quickly again so must think he can win this.

GL to all today. Hope you all beat the bookie

Trainer has 3 runners at sandown today, all in this race. He has only had 5 horses here i the last 5 years. 2 have won and 1 has placed. I hope i have chosen the right one – fehily’s only mount on a saturday.one could even back all three and still make a profit of one wins (16s, 12s and 8s).

I will also be on gibbos bedrock as cosgrave travels from haydock to ride it for haggas currently priced 7/1.

When you come from last to sitting just behind the leaders pulling a bus but and can’t get a gap you are unlucky but as I have always said you need luck,
With a gap he probably would have won by 4 or 5 lengths but ended up crossing the line on the bridle and was never off the bridle

Deebaj just never jumped again and a slow pace didn’t help the jumping

With regards to Lincoln it was travelling like a dream and the jockey should of tried to get it nearer earlier instead of stuck at the back gambling a gap will open up in the last furlong. can’t blame the horse at all. Don’t know if it would of won though as it finished well behind the eventual winners but think it could of thrown down a challenge for sure

I don’t really mind, I prefer watching flat racing and the easier races for people to study are sprints as the horses hold the form better
Longer distances and you have to try work out what sort of pace they will go and you get a lot more false run races

Upon further analysis, Midterms Dam, Midday, ran twice at Epsom and was only touched of by a head and neck on both occasions. She’s bred in the purple so the Derby will be a scrap imo.

More importantly, Middays sire Kingmambo, never ran at the derby distance of 1m 4f, although Kingmambo sired 2004 Epsom oaks winner Light shift, so one could argue there will be no problem handling the turns and undulations at Epsom.
Kingmambo was euthanized at age 25 on January 20, 2016 due to the infirmities of old age.

Like I said though Midterm looks too unbalanced to be an Epsom horse
if he goes to Chester it will give us a clue if he might handle Epsom
