No good from me yesterday but as many other have commented, looks like the thread had another great day so well done to all the winners! :)

    NAP – Gershwin 5:05 Sandown – 11/2 Coral
NB – Colour My World 1:40 Doncaster – 13/2 Hills
    NNB – Alizoom 3:30 Sandown – 6/1 Coral

NAP – Fantastic breeding, strong future entries so clearly highly regarded & Frankie booked

NB – Won on soft over this trip and reunited with Franny Norton again today. He’s lightly raced & runs off bottom weight here which could be vital in the closing stages as they tire on the ground

NNB – Winner on G-S but keen for me is that Johnston has a runner in the race but Fanning chose to ride Alizoom (Varian). Varian & Fanning have a 40% SR when teaming up.

well done all yesterday said i thought bookies would have a rough day wasn’t far wrong, managed 3/4 on the lucky 15 only denied buy busy street loosing buy a neck but the golden egg turned out to be a rotten egg.still took just over 5x stake profit.

good luck to all.Just before i get into today’s tips i noticed whilst placing my bets an intriguing price boost offer @skybet regarding Saturdays football there offering a boost from 9/2 up to 13/2 for Chelsea,Southampton,Liverpool to win I’m a Chelsea fan and feel were the biggest risk of the 3 but for the odds it seems a good bet.

Right on to main reason for being here.

Western Hymn @1:50 Sandown 5/6 NAP A course and distance winner when winning first time out last season. A class act that will be hard to beat here and John Gosden’s horse has been winning recently.

Housesofparliament @7:30 Dundalk 5/4 NB short price but for good reason second LTO to stable mate 3yr old son of Galileo has every chance here also great draw expecting a comfortable win.

MissionComplete @7:35 3/1 been improving since back end of last year final got first win since 2014 LTO talented young jockey on board again though upped in weight jockey has 10lb claim if repeats last performance should win though more improvement is likely will likely ride from front to hopefully make all.

    so Patent bet of:
Western Hymn @1:50 Sandown 5/6 NAP
    Housesofparliament @7:30 Dundalk 5/4 NB
    MissionComplete @7:35 3/1

Golden Egg. RedOrator @7:50 Plumpton 13/2

With the news that David Bass has been given a 20 day suspension for misuse of the whip on Grand National horse The Last Samuri it stirs up something I feel strongly about,
Whip bans are not as common as they used to be but it still happens.
My view has always been that if a jockey is found guilty then the horse should be disqualified, I say this even if it’s a horse I have tipped.
Using the whip encourages a horse to continue running, to run faster so over use has to be an unfair advantage so why should a horse keep a race or a place if it has had an unfair advantage
Only my view but I do feel strongly about it because rules are rules

    • Profile photo of the notorious
      the notorious 8 months ago

John, jockeys are more likely to overuse the whip in group 1 races or grand national, but thankfully these day jockeys are well educated towards the use of it. Its not a pretty sight when a jockey decides to flog a horse thats all out without giving it a chance to respond.
If I remember correctly John many many years ago whips where made from wood and plastic!!
Certainly not horse friendly when compared to todays whip.

    • Profile photo of dubawi
      dubawi 8 months ago

Totally agree with this John as ive been done in a photo finish at least 3 times in the last few months where the winning jockey has received a whip ban. I think when its as close as that then the offending horse should lose the race. The whip rules have been in place long enough now so theres no excuses.

    Hi all,
Been a while (about 3 months) since I last posted, been following the thread on and off but other commitments mean I’ve not kept much eye on the racing recently. Got just under 3 months at home before I’m off away again tho so thought it would be a good time to get back on the thread.

I’m not usually in the know, but my dads friend has a 15G stake in a Haggas horse called bedrock which I’m told is a must bet the next time it runs for one reason or another. I have a notifier telling me when it runs so I’ll put it in the thread again on whichever day it decides to. Obviously no guarantees with racing but they’re waiting for the right time to run him (NR last time because of the ground).
Anyway, onto today. There’s some great racing at sandown which should throw up some season stars and there’s also a few decent meetings elsewhere.
To get back into the swing of things, after reading Ryan Moore’s thoughts on today and various other racing analysts, I’ve come up with 6 horses I’ll be backing today (most at small stakes due to little or no previous form for many races).

    13.20 San – Von Blucher 9/4 NB

14.30 Per – Monbeg River (parsnip Pete in from about 11’s last night to 11/4 now so is likely danger and was my 2nd choice)

    14.45 Don – Sound Check 2/1

    14.55 San – Belardo 5/4

16.35 San – Shall We 3/1 NAP – looked good on debut and the experience of a run gives an advantage over a good chunk of the competitors. Foal from 1m 2f Grade 1 winner so bred to suit this distance.

17.05 San – Stargazer 11/2 progressive, yard in good form, Moore seemed quietly confident about it – Gershwin main danger.

These were all prices I took so so will have drifted and some shortened but luckily pp does BPG so that covers me on any drifters.

Sound check drifts from 2/1 to 13/2 and ends up winning. Thank the lord for BPG!!

    Idaho- Epsom Derby

Advised last year after his debut run this horse is still available at 25/1
This son of Galileo is a full brother to Highland Reel who is himself a group one winner,
He seems to be one of Aidan O’Brien’s lesser lights but I still believe he should be one of his main horses for the Derby.
Idaho was a bit green on debut but still showed a decent turn of foot to win,
He was then sent straight into group one level in France where he didn’t really get the run of the race and was given an easy ride by Ryan Moore once the jockey realised his chance had gone, that was on heavy ground which isn’t his favoured surface but still looked okay on it,
His first run this year was at the Leopardstown and again it was on heavy ground, he played up a bit in the stalls and during the race was kept out the back,
He was the outsider of O’Brien’s three runners that day but comprehensively beat his two stablemates ,
I think on the heavy ground the jockey made his move too early as he showed a great turn of foot to go clear in a matter of strides,
We should be looking at a good ground Derby but in Britain it’s not guaranteed, but on good ground I can’t see any horse being able to cope with Idaho’s turn of foot, but as shown at Leopardstown I would still be quietly confident on any ground.
He looks well balanced and is setting better during the race and like I said he has that turn of foot, these are all attributes that mean Epsom should suit him

    • Profile photo of Johnb
      Johnb 8 months ago

Also meant to say that although he got beat at Leopardstown last time he wasn’t stopping, he just got outstayed by another horse after making his move too early on the heavy ground

      Lincoln (NAP)
Third in this race last year and after taking into account the jockeys claim Lincoln is running off a 7lb lower mark this year, Paddy Pilley is a decent jockey for his 5lb claim and I think this is one of the races Mick Channon has eyed for a while
His best run was in the group 3 Criterion Stakes at Newmaket
I would like to see the horse ridden closer to the pace in this race for a change in tactics though

      Deebaj (NB)
This is a horse I have kept a close eye on since going hurdling, the ex Hamdan Al Maktoum horse was an interesting recruit to the national hunt scene
He was rushed through to get his handicap mark and I thought 121 last time was a good mark but thought the distance would be a bit too far this early and this race looks much more up his street
He does need to improve on his jumping but it is getting there and it is a winnable race this

dellboy sorry only just seen your post,
I couldn’t have fancied anything strongly in the race but it had to be Call Out Loud after I tipped the horse last time out when finishing last
    That’s racing

the notorious Hard Spun was a decent horse, 2nd in the Kentucky Derby, 3rd in the Preakness and 2nd in the Breeders Cup Classic

Thanks matey. I always stick to my staking plan no matter what 1% of the bank for singles unless it’s a NAP from a trusted tip then it’s 2% then I put 1-2% on patents, trixie or lucky15. Never stake more than 10% of the bank in one day (usually around5-8% most days)
