BOTH of Tuesday’s quarter-final ties resume at 3-1 but only one of the ties is still alive.
There is no way back for PSG after losing 3-1 at home to Barcelona but bookies can’t split Bayern Munich and Porto even though the Germans lost by the same score in Portugal.
Pep Guardiola’s side defended badly and put on their worst display of the season last week and now attempt the great escape in tonight’s Champions League return.
If anyone can overturn the deficit it’s the all-conquering Germans and they’ll take heart from the fact the Portuguese aren’t great travellers. A 2-0 win will put the Bundesliga giants into the last four and that’s achievable if they defend better than last week.
The away goal could be crucial but if they concede they could be in trouble. Bayern are no bigger than 4-11 with the likes of BetVictor to win on the night and I’m on them at 1-1 with BetVictor and Ladbrokes to qualify.
Skipper Philipp Lahm has recovered from a stomach virus and Bastian Schweinsteiger could return but Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben remain out. Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller have been involved in 11 of Bayern’s last 12 Bundesliga goals and their partnership will be key.
Muller’s the man for the big occasion and I’ll be on him at 9-2 with bet365 to score first and 11-10 to net at any time.
Porto were superb last week but were gifted their goals. However, they are unbeaten in the Champions League this season and have won 17 of 22 matches in 2015 so can’t be dismissed lightly. They are 1-1 at McBookie to reach the semis for the first time since 2004.
However, Porto have been hit by a blow with full-backs Alex Sandro and Danilo banned and they could be punished in the wide areas.
Bayern have won 17 of their 19 games in all competitions at the Allianz Arena and I expect them to edge through.
Brcelona are 2-5 at BetVictor to win in the Nou Camp but don’t need to. PSG welcome back Zlatan Ibrahimovic and will go for it so there could be goals.
Back over 3.5 goals at 23-20 with McBookie and consider the Swede at 11-4 with Betfred to score.
However, a better bet could be on-form Uruguayan Luis Suarez at 19-17 at 888sport after his first-leg double and he is 9-2 with bet365 to score first behind market leaders Lionel Messi (3-1, William Hill, Betfred).
Bayern to qualify
Muller to score first
Suarez to score
