IT was a dramatic day north and south of the border. Leicester edged closer to the Premier League title with a dramatic draw against West Ham and Rangers won the Old Firm Scottish Cup battle on penalties.
My bets were equally dramatic with two out of three on the three advised trebles and two losing Super Singles. I did though get four out of four on recommended bets on the English preview.
There was no red card at Hampden and that's always a fairly speculative bet but my other pick were Mainz who stunk the place out at home to Cologne.
My pick looked certain to come up smelling or roses when Mainz led 2-0. I was about to advise cheap cover when Cologne scored and they went on to grab a stunning 3-2 success.
Barcelona were another big disappointment for me as they followed their Champions League exit by losing at home to Valencia. One point separates the top three in La Liga and there should be a thrilling race to the finish.
Having backed Barca on the anteposts I've looked at their closing five fixtures and they are all extremely winnable as long as they get out of this rut quickly. Deportivo (a), Sporting Gijon (h), Real Betis (a), Espanyol (h) and Granada (a) would normally not pose too many problems.
That explains why they are still as short as 4-7 favourites at William Hill while the Madrid chasers are both 4-1 at Skybet.
As for Monday I've posted a separate preview on Stoke v Spurs and I'm on the visitors to keep up their title challenge. Spurs may feature on an accumulator if I put one up.
For the Super Single I'm aiming to wipe out losses with old friends Tondela. Some of you may remember a few weeks ago I took both to score at Porto v Tondela as the Super Single and it fell down with Tondela winning 1-0.
They were a massive price that day – 33-1 maybe – and followed up by beating Madeira 1-0 and are unbeaten in three. Tondela are still bottom ahead of Monday's trip to Braga but are now just six points from safety.
I'm not saying they're going to win at best odds of 17-2 but they could. However, for the Super Single I'm going with Tondela to score at just under evens and they've netted in their last 13 matches – which for a team at the foot is fairly remarkable. Braga have kept just one clean in nine but there is no h2h to go with.
Benfica are also in action in Portugal at home to Vitoria Setubal. Finding value is difficult with the title challengers extremely short at 1-8 with William Hill. A possible stats-based bet is over 2.5 Benfica goals which has come up in six of the last seven meetings – including an 8-1 win. But again it's pretty short at 8-13 with Ladbrokes while Benfica -2 is 10-11 at GentingBet.
Top scorer Jonas returns to the side after missing out against Bayern Munich in midweek through suspension so he'll be one of the fresher ones. He is 11-5 at bet365 to score first but no bigger than 7-15 at 888sport to net at any time. A Jonas/Harry Kane anytime scorer double pays 2-1 at bet365 and is tempting.
Elsewhere there are a few games to look at including Dundalk v St Pat's in the Irish League Cup and watch out for tips on this and other games on the comments section.
I wasn't going to do a Top Treble but I'm going to risk 1pt on Benfica -2, over 2.5 goals at Stoke v Spurs and Sirius at home to Dalkurd. Sirius have started with two good wins in their bid for promotion and face new boys Dalkurd who have one point from two.
I see Jordan's tipped them to score 2+ so that's an alternative but for the treble I'm taking them to win.

Poor first month so far but still time to turn it around. If I am to do that I need my luck to change. Teplice on Saturday were well in command and sitting on a 2:0 lead when they inexplicably collapsed. If they had not lost the 2 goal cushion it would have cut the deficit to -0.24 units on Saturday but they did and the loss is what it is. Its a fine line. Today back to dodgy trebles. Still not enough games in Finland to establish some form but I’m taking a chance on Inter Turku to add to their 4 points from 6 at home to Kups who have lost both their opening matches and one of those was against newly promoted PK-35 who have otherwise struggled. The Russian National can be hard to predict but I am on Spartak’s second team with draw no bet as they are solid at home, have only lost 3 in 15 there and host a side who have won only 2 in 16 away games. Draw no bet here because the away side do pick up a lot of draws. Lastly after Jorge Jesus’ new side won last night to go top I am backing his old side to win and leapfrog them again. Benfica should now be fully focussed on the title after dropping out of the Champions League and I would expect them to win by more than goal over Setubal so taking them with -1.

Just thought I’d point out anyone looking at tomorrows Swedish game. Djugarden and Hammarby are a very fierce rivalry and have played in the same stadium since 2013, so you’re better off looking at home stats for Hammarby then away ?
Jordan, good thing to point out but so many games tomorrow I don’t think I’ll get near Sweden.
Still remember watching Hammarby knock St Mirren out of Europe many moons ago.
I always tend to look at the Swedish leagues no matter how big the card Mr F. Put it this way, I’m clued more about the Allsvenskan than I am on the Championship or lower English leagues.
That was my first ever saints game @mr-fixit! 1986, when I was 10. We drew 3-3 in Sweden and were leading 1-0 at Love Street with 5 minutes to go and lost 2-1. It pretty much set me up as a saints fan for life and it was a good benchmark as it’s been mainly misery like that ever since but I wouldnae swap it for the world!
jorge1877, that was bad luck. I knew they’d gone out in dramatic fashion but couldn’t remember how crazy it was.
With Paisley being just across the water from me I used to nip across for some midweek matches.
I ended up reporting on St Mirren games the following year and had to keep calm in the Press Box when Clydebank knocked you out the Scottish Cup when you were holders.
Haha 3 scud you beat us @mr-fixit, I was at that one too. I remember that result sending shockwaves around Scottish football, Clydebank played us off the park that day.

Back over to Argentina where the foreign turf is proving a much better betting surface than back home.
Arsenal have had a relatively succesful start thus far and with a game in hand, can see themselves top the Primera table with a win tonight.
They play on the back of 5 wins in their last 6 but I sense Belgrano might play a part here.
They’ve scored in 11 of their last 15 games and of those, well over half of their away fixtures have seen a Belgrano goal.
Belgrano interestingly beat Gimnasia La Plata 3-0 recently whilst Arsenal were beaten 1-0 by the same team weeks ago.
Certainly should be a tasty game and whilst Arsenal should capitaluse on home advantage, I reckon Belgrano will notch at some point.

Jorge, glad you remember it son I left saints in 85/86 to go junior as never quite made it just a year or so before they won the Scottish in 87 was a crackin team money in goal (3 or 4 in front of me tbh) big billy was number 2 at the time, aber, fitz, lambo, fergie, chalmers an mcgarvey up front crackin side it was with smith in charge the memories floodin back noo……………… tommy Wilson best right full back a ever threw the ball oot tae……….. stevie Clarke was just afore ma time………. gallus
