THE games are coming thick and fast over the Easter holidays and that doesn't make it any easier for punters.

Yesterday was disappointing with Chelsea costing me five points and the goals treble flopping. I didn't expect Chelsea to lose but Man United turned on possibly their best display of the season so credit Jose Mourinho for his team selection.

On Monday there's a full Football League and National League card as well as Middlesbrough v Arsenal in the Premier League. The Gunners are on a terrible run – seven points from 24 – but should beat doomed Boro although I'm tempted by odds of around 1-2.

So my focus will be on the lower leagues and I've checked latest team news in the morning before putting up the rest of my tips. I've posted an English preview and in it give reasoning for the Super Single – Brighton to beat Wigan and Reading to beat Rotherham.

The only side I've picked who are not mentioned are Lincoln who could clinch the National League title at Gateshead today although it will take other results to go in their favour. Lincoln have never won there in the league but travel north at a perfect time.

The Imps have won five in a row towards the end of a hectic season while Gateshead's play-off hopes are all but over after taking just two points from 15. Lincoln at over evens tempts.

I've only had time to focus on the English games and remember there is a full Jupiler League card today with games kicking off at 1.30pm and there are also Irish League Cup matches. Check the comments section for tips on these games.

It's also a busy day in the Scandinavian leagues and later Alaves entertain Villarreal in La Liga with the visitors looking a good bet against a side out of form.

Remember to check out Welovebetting for their tips and video chat.

And if you're having your first bet with 888sport you'll get treble the odds.

    Granada vs Celta Vigo.

    0.5 pts Granada 0.0 Asian @1.870.

0.2 pts FH Asian goal line over 0.5 goals if still 0-0 after 12/15 mins and the price hits 1.650+

Its s##t or bust time for Granada. Celta have an eye on Genk midweek. Granada have lost 3 on the bounce at home (Barca Atletico amongst em) but you’ll have to go back to the days of King Eric to find a 4 straight losses.

It’s s##t or bust time for

      Horrible start for Tony Adams.

    • erictheking 7 years ago

Agreed. Tony really needed something tonight to have any chance of keeping Granada up imo. The only positive was Pereira. Unfortunately for Tony I can’t see him sticking around next season. Hes developed quite well and will be a useful addition to Utds squad, should Mourinho recall him.

      Granada 0.0 Asian @1.870.. 0.5pts.

      Lost.

0.2 pts FH Asian goal line over 0.5 goals if still 0-0 after 12/15 mins and price hits 1.650+..

Won. 1.650+ became available after 18 mins. 1st goal scored on 23 min.

    • fraser51 7 years ago

I was actually going to post that Celta were good value until I seen their starting lineup. Resting players and still winning 3-0. The players at Granada have stopped playing which can only be a good thing for the punter, Gary Neville had some decent players at Valencia and couldn’t get results, can’t see Adams getting anything done with Granada.

  2. jim burnside 7 years ago

GRANADA. More money wasted I done btts to score first half of I’d done btts to have a shot on target I still wouldn’t have won.if that’s them fighting for life well the plugs getn pulled.there in that league position for a reason and the word for it is there RANK.

Celta vigo get in got me my money back had them to score 2 been a good
team for me, and won on genk to score 2 hope
tomorrow is a better day for us .

    • Mr Fixit 7 years ago

Didn’t notice that tip but that was a good one.
A lot people tipped Granada because it was Adams’ first game in charge but I don’t see him being a great success there.

With the English card looking quite tough I have looked to some of my favourite European leagues at games kicking off between 12.45 and 14.00.
This could go really well or be a total disaster:

    Waalwijk BTTS & 2.5

    Lugano BTTS & 2.5

Had a look at this after Hullshaker tipped BTTS in Ferriby’s game at Eastleigh. Barrow conceding a few recently and worth a go!

    • HullShaker 7 years ago

Afternoon WC – good luck with the North Ferriby bet but I’d be wary as hell, they don’t score away from home and my selection ‘tother day was purely based on their home performance. ?

Cheers Hull – it’s certainly not a big stake – shortened to 11/10 – certainly not as a result of my stake!!

With Bolton losing on Sat, Sheff Utd are already champions. They will still want to put on a show for their fans though and their games have seen plenty of goals at both ends this season. Bradford can now catch Bolton – with the added frisson of ex City manager Parkinson at Bolton this season. Bolton have lost 2 in a row and don’t play again until tomorrow so a City win would put them just a point behind. Suddenly there is a real chance of Bradford getting automatic promotion and coupled with wanting to spoil their Yorkshire rivals party, I see goals at Bramall Lane this lunchtime. BTTS / BTTS & Overs are good bets in my opinion. I have gone for a correct score of 2-2 at 16/1 with WH. Another high odds punt could be Bradford to win from behind at 12/1 with Betstars. I reckon this could be a really entertaining game similar to the one City played at Glanford Park on TV last week. Oh, and another link is the fact that City manager McCall played for both clubs as well so I expect a generous welcome from the Blades fans – for the manager, if not for the fans……

  22. nathanufton 7 years ago

After a fab week as a Derby fan with their best performance of the season against Fulham, then a late winner away to Birmingham, there was a glimmer of hope for Derby to mug Sheff Wed and/or Fulham of that last elusive playoff spot………..

Famous last words. Brentford handed us our worst defeat of the season with a 4 nil battering and we deserved it. The comparison between how we played at home to Fulham and away to Brentford is so embarrassing, I can’t begin to explain it.
We have a chance to redeem ourselves at home today to Huddersfield, yet after Fridays showing, I’m not entirely sure how we’ll react. We SHOULD put on another solid home performance, BUT Huddersfield need 3-5 points to guarantee a playoff spot.

My bet today at shop prices will be the usual suspects: Fulham, Sheff Wed, Reading, Brighton and i’ll drop on to the Derby win too – but with ladbrokes – for their acca insurance.

    Morning all!

Yesterday ended up being a no-bet day for me (technically, after some experimental trips to the J-League and the MLS late Saturday night). I was glad I left it alone, too, as most of my thoughts turned out to be stinkers and it looked to be a tough day for punters.

Today is another chunky card and, although I’ve tried to be cautious in that a number of sides will be playing off of little rest, I’ve got a few fancies. Because of the amount of selections, I won’t be giving quite the comprehensive write-up for each or I’ll be here all day. ;)

Two games that should see both sides scoring are those at Eastbourne and Waalwijk. Eastbourne have seen 30 goals scored in their last 5 and are particularly prolific at home. They’re prone to conceding, however, and East Thurrock aren’t shy of the goal – they average nearly 2 a game on their travels. Similar stats apply to the game in Waalwijk.

    Eastbourne v East Thurrock
    Waalwijk v Almere

BTTS Double @ 24/25 (Stan James)

    Add: Charlton v Gillingham

    BTTS Treble @ 12/5 (Various)
    __________________________________________

Completely agree with Mr F here – I am all over this double, which was best priced at 11/10 when I took it late last night. I wouldn’t put anyone off backing both sides winning at O1.5 Match Goals either, which pays 2/1 @ Betstars.

    Brighton
    Reading

    Double @ 11/10 (Various)
    __________________________________________

Four sides I fancy scoring at reasonable prices today yet picking the best three of the bunch proved a difficult task. I was definitely tempted to take Preston alone and back them to score twice against a fairly erratic Norwich side, but instead I’ll have a small stake on all four sides hitting the back of the net.

    Cardiff, Preston, Northampton, Maidstone

    O0.5 Team Goals @ 6/4 (Coral)
    ___________________________________________

Also, purely so it guarantees a run at the 3pm kick offs, I’m taking a roll-up of all the above *excluding* the Dutch game at Waalwijk. It pays 47/4 (Coral), so I’ll have some loose change on that as is often the case with the bigger cards.

    Good Luck! :)

Will add this one for the afternoon…

    GRINDAVÍK VS. KR (15.00 KO):

KR ought to nail this one and there’s a good chance we’ll see a few goals; the two have met 6 times in the last 4 years and in 5 of those 6, Over 2.5 MGS has got the nod with 4 of the 6 seeing 4 or more goals!

Interesting to see Bet 365 are having none of the game as they usually cover the most obscure Nordic games…this one is a veritable showcase game in comparison…hmmmm.

Over to Coral we go then and I’ll be applying ‘Rule 27’ of the Better Bettors handbook: ‘Always expect SHGS in Iceland’ – that’s ‘second half goals scored’ and fortunately not some kind of erotic session with Bjork.

    Two selections to consider:

    OVER 1.5 SHGS…8/13

Derby team news taken straight off the tinterweb ( radio Derby is currently tied up with match commentary following Burton who are currently doing a sterling job staving off relegation against Birmingham ).

Derby County boss Gary Rowett has named his team to face Huddersfield Town in Monday’s Sky Bet Championship encounter at Pride Park Stadium (5pm).

After Friday’s 4-0 defeat at Brentford, Rowett has made five changes to his starting line-up for the Rams’ penultimate home fixture of the 2016-17 campaign.

Cyrus Christie gets a chance to impress at right-back and midfielder Will Hughes also starts, on his 22nd birthday.

Elsewhere, Ikechi Anya and Matej Vydra come into the team in what looks like a 4-2-3-1 formation, while Darren Bent returns up front.

For Christie, Hughes, Anya and Bent, it will be their first starts under new manager Rowett.

Making way are Chris Baird, Jacob Butterfield, Craig Bryson, Johnny Russell and David Nugent, who picked up a groin injury against Brentford.

Young left-back Max Lowe returns to the squad and is named among the substitutes.

Jason Shackell (back), Nick Blackman (knee), Craig Forsyth (knee) and George Thorne (leg) all remain sidelined by injury.

Huddersfield boss David Wagner has made four changes to his side following Friday’s 3-2 victory over Preston North End.

Martin Cranie, Dean Whitehead, Joe Lolley and Collin Quaner come in for Tommy Smith, Philip Billing (groin), Jonathan Hogg and Nahki Wells.

DERBY COUNTY: Carson, Christie, Keogh, Pearce, Olsson, Hughes, Johnson, Ince, Vydra, Anya, Bent. Subs: Mitchell (gk), M Lowe, Baird, Bryson, Butterfield, Camara, Russell.

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN: Ward, C Lowe, Hefele, Schindler, Cranie, Mooy, Whitehead, Lolley, Van La Parra, Kachunga, Quaner. Subs: Coleman (gk), Smith, Hudson, Hogg, Scannell, Payne, Wells.

Summary: I think the 4-2-3-1 which seems to be much more of a good fit for the players we have than the 4-3-3 which only works when we have the players available to make good of that ( + everyone in the league has seemed to of sussed us out with the 4-3-3 ).

I’m quietly confident of a Derby win which is around 13/8, but I have plumped for a speculative 8 way acca which includes Derby -1 h/c @ 4/1.

    best of luck guys.

A real mixed-bag helped by a late Maidstone goal. East Thurrock missed a penalty inside 10 minutes so I guess the luck swung both ways. I didn’t ‘tip’ it but the 2/1 double on Reading and Brighton to Win and O1.5 Match Goals also came in as those two sides (eventually) did the business for the punters.

Don’t forget Liam Robinson – Shakers legend! Some run they’ve been on John alright.

    • HullShaker 7 years ago

John, if my memory serves me right, I remember at his prime (early 90’s) Hibs put in an offer of £100,000 for Liam which would have been a club record then but he never went and ended up as a journeyman doing the Yorkshire circuit.

Ironically, he ended up at Scarborough where I lived and played at the time and actually trained a few times alongside him which was like a dream come true for me.

Didn’t realise he was now at Rosenborg – last I know he was a Forest. Scored in all 3 league games (well ok one was an OG). The opponents Viking haven’t had a good start to the season losing all 3 and conceding 6 goals. Surely the world’s self proclaimed best player will find the net (hopefully the opponents one!!).

Sorry bullseye lad i only just seen your Middlesbrough goal time.

    • bullseye 7 years ago

Lol seems we’ve got different views on this one then. My thinking was that Middlesbrough performances seem to have picked up a bit in the last few games and in the reverse fixture they caused them a lot of problems, hitting the post twice and Traore ran riot. Good luck with the NB :)

    Middlesbrough v Arsenal

Arsenal are in woeful form at the moment and while Wenger has tried to shake things up he still makes the same puzzling decisions that have got us into this mess. The ineffective Ramsey starts tonight in the middle ahead of Elneny who provides far more stability. Sanchez starts wide right where he is nowhere near as dangerous. Walcott, who was apparently good enough to be team captain last time out, is only good enough for the bench tonight. Monreal, our best left back is playing left wing. You’d almost think he is making it up as he goes along!

The Fylde game not going over2.5 knocked my big accumulator for £83 off my free £5.

After the start of the Arsenal game, I’d suggest getting on Xhaka to be carded inplay, can still get about 2/1 for him I think and he’s already had a couple warnings from the referee.

  82. HullShaker 7 years ago

It’s a sparse card for anyone looking at a late flutter – I’ve picked out one game for the Night Owl but it’s only worth following for low stakes…

TEMPERLEY VS. ROSARIO CENTRAL (23.00 KO):

The last time these two went H2H was back in 2015 with Rosario scoring the solitary goal and whilst more recent games for both hardly scream goals, I feel that there could be a bit of value to be had.

Temperley lie in 26th place with Rosario in 16th but the Argentinian Primera is a fairly tight pack around the middle and both sides – particularly the latter – aren’t a million miles of a Copa Sud America slot as a Top 10 side.

Temperley have llost only once in their last 6 games with home advantage being the positive factor – they have scored 3-3 and 2 team goals at home during that spell.

Rosario have lost just 20% of their last 10 games and are undefeated in 4 with 3 wins and a draw but what stands out is that they have scored a minimum of a goal in every one of their last 7 on the road scoring 2 or more in 3 of those games!

Clearly, the bookies don’t fancy goals but I reckon these two both have enough about them to score and that opens up the door for a bit of potential value.

    Two selections to consider then:

    BTTS…21/20
    ??

ROSARIO OVER 1.5 TGS…33/20 (Pays slightly better than 365‘s 13/8)
    ?

    Best of luck!
