Alan Thomson's Tips: Sky's the limit at Musselburgh

COSMIC SKY (4.35) is my idea of the best bet on day two at Musselburgh.

Tim Easterby’s filly didn’t stay 10f when unplaced at Beverley and appreciated the return to today’s trip of 7f at Thirsk when taking the measure of Melaniemille. The runner-up won next time out and ran well in defeat at Catterick yesterday.

Keith Dalgleish saddles likely favourite Jack Blane. The gelding can hardly be faulted for consistency having hit the frame on several occasions lately. These runs have come on soft ground and Jack Blane encounters fast ground today.

My Girl Massie chased home State Residence over 6f at Redcar but the winner proved a disappointing favourite at Catterick yesterday.

RASELASAD (3.0) looks the answer to a tricky five-runner handicap returning to the quicker ground he encountered when winning his maiden at Thirsk in June.

The top weight led for a long way at Redcar last time and holds seventh-placed Our Charlie Brown on that run. Raselasad will appreciate racing against his own age group this time and his prominent style of racing should make the gelding hard to catch around here.

Our Charlie Brown is a course and distance winner on quick ground and will enjoy a return to his optimum conditions. The Stalking Moon has solid course form but would prefer it soft underfoot.

TIRANIA (4.00) may be capable of thwarting Peach Melba’s bid for a four-timer.

Peach Melba came clear of William Haggas’s Harba at Lingfield last time but Haggas is content to take her on again with Tirania, the wide margin winner of her maiden at Windsor back in May.

She has since finished a neck second to Time Chaser at Sandown on good to firm ground before disappointing a little at Ascot when only fourth to Mittens. Haggas has given her a nice break and she turns up here a fresh filly.

Peach Melba has really come into her own since encountering an easy surface, winning at Lingfield, Leicester and Chepstow. Underfoot conditions will be a lot slicker this afternoon which raises concerns at a short price.

Alpine Dream ran into a red-hot Whatsthemessage over course and distance three weeks ago and should be involved.

There is some interesting action at Chelmsford City and RAVEN’S LADY (2.50) is fancied to land the fillies’ Conditions Stakes for Marco Botti.

The three-year-old beat Clon Coulis at Newmarket and the runner-up was very impressive when scoring at Hamilton last week. Raven’s Lady also ran third to Queen Kindly at Pontefract and may just have the legs of the year older Aljuljalah, a good second to Excellent Sounds at Haydock.

ALMOREB (1.50) is fairly consistent and the form of her Wolverhampton second to High End is looking better following the Godolphin three-year-old’s victory at Epsom on Monday, despite not appearing comfortable on the camber.
