Alan Thomson’s Tips: Put your mark on Zorro

REDROSEZORRO (2.20) is a stand-out bet at Thirsk where he goes for his four-timer in the 7f
handicap.

He scored with plenty in hand at Catterick last week and is actually 2lb lower. Throw in a useful low
draw and Redrosezorro is sitting pretty.

FEEL THE WRATH (5.20) is possibly the most interesting horse running from a betting point of
view at Southwell.

In his three starts as a juvenile, Feel The Wrath was sent off 250-1, 200-1 and 100-1 and ran like his
price indicated. The gelding was awarded an official rating of 46 and changed stables in the interim.

On his first start in a handicap for Ivan Furtado, Feel The Wrath was gambled off the boards, starting
a 9-4 shot under Silvestre De Sousa, but after chasing leader Gleaming Sun hard from the stalls he
weakened out of the frame.

That run came over a mile and connections have dropped him to seven furlongs with SDS again in
the saddle. This is an even weaker contest and Feel The Wrath may well be the subject of another
old-fashioned touch in the betting ring.

DA CAPO DANDY (7.20) is much more exposed and is seeking his fourth straight course and distance
victory for James Ewart. The handicapper has put another 5lb on her back but when you get a filly on
a roll it’s usually best to stick with them until beaten.

MUQARRED (6.50) looks a bit of value against favourite Red Touch in the mile handicap.

Red Touch is up 5lb for beating Spun Gold over course and distance 34 days ago but finished 11
lengths behind Muqarred in the race won by Mama Africa back in December. Red Touch has no
doubt improved since but finds himself 7lb worse off with my selection.

Muqarred can throw in the odd wobbly which makes him a dicey bet, but there wasn’t much wrong
with his recent comeback run when fourth to Pearl Spectre here 26 days ago.

De Sousa could book-end the card with another winner as he teams up with old boy THE LOCK
MASTER (8.20).

Mick Appleby’s gelding took this race last year and finds himself 19lb better off with top weight
Stuccodor, despite beating that horse a neck in a seller over course and distance.

The danger is Sleep Easy, last seen running third to Saturday’s easy hurdles winner Soul Emotion. He
was giving Nicky Henderson’s horse 9lb into the bargain, so a reproduction of that form would make
him hard to beat. However, Sleep Easy hasn’t looked totally in love with the Fibresand surface on his
previous visits to Southwell which makes it all something of a head-scratcher.

What’s more, Sleep Easy is owned by shrewd gambler Tony Bloom, owner of Brighton FC,
and he may well be planning a coup to help fund their next signing!

It’s a fascinating punting card and I’ll be keeping a careful watch on Betfair for some clues as I also
like the look of Andrew Balding’s Face Like Thunder (6.20) and the Hugo Palmer-trained Rashdan
(7.20) if there is any money for them following lay-offs.
