Alan Thomson's Tips: Fine Example to reward Ryan raid on Salisbury

YORKSHIRE trainer Kevin Ryan doesn’t send many to Salisbury and the hint should be taken with FINE EXAMPLE (4.50).

This is a 7f apprentices’ handicap and Ryan has booked Seamus Cronin, one of the most promising boys around, and he can claim 3lb here.

Fine Example twice walked away with second prizes at Musselburgh last month, with his second to Echoes Of Lightning looking good after that horse later spread-eagled his rivals at Pontefract. Fast ground is ideal and free-running Fine Example could jump out and make all.

The first of three selections at Beverley is ALEXANDER M (4.10). he looked a typical Mark Johnston improving three-year-old when dictating matters at Chester 10 days ago. The horse he beat that day, Richard Hughes’ Golden Wolf, cruised home at Lingfield on Saturday evening.

YENSIR (4.40) has been gradually running into form for Grant Tuer and is worth an investment in the 1m 2f handicap.

The four-year-old was pipped by Diamond Runner at Redcar on Saturday and is very well in with hat-trick seeking Inflexiball, only fifth to Diamond Runner at Nottingham in June.

Mysterial will adopt his usual tactics by blasting out and trying to make all, probably setting up the race for a closer. Let’s hope it’s Yensir.

REGAL MIRAGE (5.15) goes from strength-to-strength under Tim Easterby’s careful placing and could well make it five straight wins in the 1m 4f handicap.

His latest success came at Pontefract when edging out Thorntoun Care, a winner since at Musselburgh. Regal Mirage is up 4lb but meets several older/out of form rivals.

The main threat may be posed by the other three-year-old in the race, Michael Bell’s Maori Bob. He didn’t stay 2m in the Nottingham mud when a tailed off favourite behind Bodacious Name and is better judged on his earlier second to John Gosden’s Joshua Reynolds at Newmarket. The well held third horse that day, Arab Moon, came out to score at Kempton, so that form looks solid.
