A QUIET start to the week but MERCER’S TROOP (4.30) looks overpriced in the 1m 4f handicap at Ripon.

Archie Watson’s gelding appeared to find 1m 6f beyond him when sixth at Chelmsford City but the second, third and fourth have all won since, so it was probably quite a hot event. The handicapper has dropped Mercer’s Troop 2lb and if all eight runners go to post he is the each-way alternative to favourite Eyecatcher.

POUCOR (5.30) makes his handicap debut off a 59 rating and that could prove lenient. Mick Channon’s gelding has had the obligatory three runs to qualify for a mark and his last effort behind the William Haggas-trained Klassique wasn’t totally devoid of promise as he finished just over four lengths behind the 89-rated Arcadian Cat. Poucor is a son of Derby winner Pour Moi and his progeny usually progress as they get older. William Muir has his horses in great heart and course and distance winner Miss M will help make the market.

LE MAHARAJAH (7.30) is another three-year-old having his first start in a handicap and Tom Clover’s gelding has shown definite signs of promise behind two winners at Goodwood last week, Desert Path and The Night Porter.

Need to lay off recoba phil, dunno why you keep embarrassing yourself, you must be young or just had 1 of those type of upbringings I spose and lose a fair bit yourself, but you wil have a happier life if you embrace others good fortune rather than resent it and bring negativity about. Go about your own business.

Thanks master fixit for clearing that up i didnt think it was danc personally. He was always a one tip one winner kind of tipster..lets hope he come back he won me some big €€€ but more than happy with the team we have here with alan and john. Best racing forum on the www i havw come across for winners no doubt about it. Ew trixie looks the call of the day from the headliners tips for me small stakes only as these mondays always seem tricky. Thursdays fridays abd saturdays seem to be my favourite days.
    Good luck today team mates

There was a 25p in the pound deduction on Sir Chauvelin in Saturdays big acca. hence my return was less than expected, not moaning just needed it cleared up – who’d have thought it would make it 650/1 less. Thanks for your time Mr F and again thanks Alan.

Don’t believe Mercer’s Troup was ever 16/1 for anyone who is now salivating that it is into 5s, with only 1 11/1 NR. Oddschecker notes it was around 8s, which sounds more likely, have noticed something similar has happened before, isn’t a dig just making sure people don’t go crazy after seeing a huge movement.

1530 Ripon: Over the weekend Nigel Tinkler had 3 winners from 6 and today runs Sheepscar Lad, we have a skinny price 13/8 but SDS is booked and is likely going to take some beating. The horse ran 8 days ago off the same mark, same distance and same class, losing by a head. The concern is his only wins have come over the 5f distance and is up against some good rivals, course regular Pipers Note has won off much higher marks but recently there is nothing exceptional to report, and since it was tipped at 11/4 in the thread, the slight drift to 7/2 doesn’t inspire confidence,
BIG LES is up in class off the same mark and is the most unexposed. Although it may not have been the rivals intention to win that day, he did beat Shaheen who is up 8lbs since (OR 86) and finished 2nd in a class 2, winning off 81 before that. Big Les is running off 84. BOSSIPOP hasn’t run over a mark this low since his 2nd race, and is definitely worth a mention, his EW value has gone but is DEFINITELY worth an ew bet to nothing now at 5/1 , as is Big Les, as you will make a £2.50 profit per £10 ew bet if they place.

Yeah just a mis type for the headliner i think mate-i got 7-1 this morning. I think it was obvious it was a mis type.
Expert eye is odds on in a place now i am very sweet on this one today i wouldnt back it at odds on like i wouldnt with any horse but happy with 13-10

Bossipop loses a place on the line by a nose, had the rail all the way and just couldnt hold on, one to look for next time if dropped any more weight and over perhaps a furlong less. Big Les wasnt too cracky but mainly failed to find the gap iirc, perhaps has a win in him soon enough depending on the circumstances especially as the horse he did beat a while ago has just won again shaheen 5/1 1830w off 8lbs higher and in a higher grade. Good old mr poundcake picked the winner and just shows another time the winner has drifted.. bookies trying to trick us again… makes me worry now why ATs la maharahja has shortened up a lot and been made fav.. although i just checked and now whitlock is ba k to fav so maybe they are trying to get money for him, either way i am with alan in another all or nothing bet :D

Siena says is a lay for me in the 2.30. bookies have it at 13-8 looks way too short

Yup just as i thought absoloute shocker from sienna. Was never a 4-1 shot never mind a 13-8. Mug punters at it again following the bookie fav

    • elvis parsley 6 years ago

      Phil mate.
You said earlier you took eyecatcher 13-10 fav ( now 10-11).
Does this make you a mug punter following the bookie favourite ??.

If it wins it’s profit even if it’s 1-10 on.

    • recoba 6 years ago

No he didn’t Elvis are you trying to tell me Oor Phil talks out his a$$?
      Cmon now. ;) ???

    • elvis parsley 6 years ago

I hate people using the term MUG PUNTER recoba.
It’s such a disrespectful term to use for people trying to beat the bookies.
Anyone who hands money over is doing it out of necessity or pleasure.

I respect anyone who tries to beat the bookies at any price, that’s the name of the game ain’t it.
Us versus them, good versus evil.
      ????

If you lump on a horse at evens or 10/11 and it gets backed off the boards, then it is a good bet really, you take what you can get and although i understand the risk vs reward argument, profit is profit, if you are 2 good for a short priced winner then why are you even gambling?

Phil i dont wanna berate or belittle you but lose the ego and get on board with the fact it’s us vs the bookies, and there is nothing more than that. You seem to post a lot an have a lot of time to spend here so start being positive with it, post up ideas, ask questions, give some lpgic behind your picks so we and you can learn.
